Black Country solicitor has a musical farewell

A lawyer who helped established the Black Country Chamber of Commerce has retired after 40 years at Midlands law firm George Green.

Richard Cliff qualified as a solicitor in 1971, joining George Green a year later. He rose through the ranks to become a partner in the corporate services team.

The father-of-five left the firm, which has offices in Cradley Heath, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, on August 17.

"I've truly enjoyed my time at George Green and have particularly valued the opportunity to work closely with individual businesses and play an active role in the local business community," he said.

"The Black Country is a great place to work - renowned for its hard-working culture, sense of humour and straight-talking people. I've made some good friends throughout my time at the firm and, while I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family and moving to the south of France, I will miss them all."

George Green senior partner and president of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Paul Bennett, said Richard had made a "tremendous impact" on the firm and the region's business community.

"His legal expertise and understanding of the local economy is second to none and we will all miss his sound advice and good humour," said Mr Bennett.

"I'd like to thank Richard for all his support during my time at the firm and for his dedication to the firm and wider region. I'm sure his colleagues and friends across the industry will join me in wishing him all the best as he embarks on this new and exciting chapter in his life."

George Green staff honoured Richard's 40-year contribution during a special tribute at the firm's annual summer party. The firm's partners performed a rendition of So Long, Farewell from The Sound of Music and a staff dressed up for a song and dance number of Kool and The Gang's track Celebration.
