Great headline – but did it ever appear?

A reader, considering Britain’s “isolation” from the eurozone, says he’s reminded of the famous newspaper headline: “Fog in Channel – Continent Isolated,” writes Peter Rhodes.

It’s a good line (I have used it myself) but I’m not sure such a headline ever existed.

It seems to have been dreamed up by the great motoring cartoonist Russell “Brock”  Brockbank (1913-1979.

It appeared as the headline on a newspaper being read by his comic creation,  Major Upsett.
