A dream night out – if you’re a woman

For men, when you receive an email with a certain reference to a male body part, it’s normally about how to make it bigger and you normally treat it as spam, writes James Carpenter.

As I looked closer at my screen last week, I realised that this was actually about a show that involves two men standing on the stage naked making tricks out of what they’ve got. The show, which shall remain nameless on this blog (I’d like to keep doing this for a while) has been a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has been popular amongst celebs including the Beckhams and Christina Aguilera, and was on at The Wulfrun Hall last night.

I did what everyone man does, I took my wife and my mother-in-law to see the show. I think it’s fair to say the ratio of men to women was about 1:50, a single man’s dream night out to be honest. In a strange way, the show was very funny, intriguing and something different.

This week seems to be a week of exploring the unknown, which always leave me living on my nerves but keeps life exciting. Some people like to live there life at a steady pace, not me.

I agreed to on-pitch announce at Molineux last Tuesday for the Carling Cup game between Wolves and Millwall. I was a bit apprehensive beforehand as to how it was going to go because, for starters, when you talk the echo feedback is immense as you’re voice finds its way around the stadium and I had an earpiece in with a guy either giving me instructions or taking the micky (cheers Jason).

Things I will remember from the night; how the pitch is just like a carpet, how I got hit on the head by a football and what a great result. Thanks to Wolves FC for inviting me, I had an absolute ball and would do it again tomorrow (not literally as they’re away at Anfield).

The next unknown piece of territory will be happening tonight at The Public in West Brom as its comedy night. Starter For Ten is about upcoming comedians getting on stage for 10 minutes and battling it out for a prize fund and the chance to join the comedy circuit.

I’m the MC and as far as I know, I’m required to be funny. I’m going to prepare a little routine but seriously, these 10 comics about to take the stage will actually be showing me how it’s done. If you’re about, please come and join us.
