Fun and games with The Carpels

So, it’s the summer holidays! There are six weeks off for the kids and six weeks of less traffic on the roads for your drive in and out of work writes Beacon blogger James Carpenter.
This week, I have had the pleasure of interviewing some very talented artists and bands – one of which hail from the Midlands.
They’re a band called The Carpels and, for young lads, they really are a band to look out for.
They’re signed to One Beat Records which is owned by Jon Brookes who is the drummer with The Charlatans. I was a massive fan of his band when they were big in the 90s, so I was pleased to meet Jon.
But when he brought The Carpels in last week, he came armed with a bag of toys.
I asked him what they were for. I mean, I know his band are young, but they’re not THAT young to need toys to keep them entertained when they’re in session.
However, he said “they’re shakers and things from the local church. I’m going to play some percussion with them on this session” – and he did.
Personally, I think they’re great. They remind me of David Byrne (Talking Heads) and that early 80s sound. Watch them here:
Please check these guys out and leave a comment as to what you think about them?

Pretty catchy song in the video – can see that they’ve got potential.

Great song. Great band. They’re in Q this month too. Good work for a local band!
