Cheryl Cole offers a salutary lesson to young girls

The new judging panel for the UK X Factor has been announced and there is no mention of Cheryl Cole, writes Charlie Cashdan.

It ends all the speculation about her possible return after being abruptly ousted from the American version.

Poor Cheryl, or is it?  She’s still got millions in the bank, still thin, still got all that hair and a multi-million pound deal with L’Oreal.

Is it just a good lesson to all those young girls out there who see her as a role model that sometimes thin and pretty just isn’t enough?

Though we don’t know exactly why she was dropped from the American show, the general consensus seems to be that she just wasn’t talented enough.  And therein lies the lesson, big hair and little body doesn’t make up for a shortfall in personality, intelligence and talent.

It wasn’t enough to keep her husband from straying and it wasn’t enough to keep hold of the biggest job of her life.

So listen up young girls, do well at school, aim for a decent career, expand your mind and have something other to trade than just a pretty face and great tan.

If you aspire to be a singer, that’s great, just make sure you aspire to be fantastically-talented like Adele not stick-thin and mediocre.  And don’t marry a footballer.  Ever.

Following the hashtag on Twitter you see a lot of sympathy for her and fair enough, she’s had a miserable old time of it with malaria and Ashley, but there’s a lot of Schadenfreude too. When someone appears to value herself so highly and is humiliated like that, there’s plenty of us who revel in it. If she had been super talented, like Adele, or even Lily Allen who, despite all her bonkersness, is actually very talented, then I think we might have responded differently. It all just seems so very calculated, so manufactured and it’s all been shoved in our faces. Oh well, if she has the right stuff she’ll come right back. If not, then it’ll probably be Kerry Katona time.

Agree there are many lessons there for ‘wannabes’ BUT never for one second think that a lack of talent and intelligence gives a husband the excuse to stray. That was a nasty and stupid comment. He made the choice and married her.

OK – so she’s not perfect, and has made mistakes, but she’s still got a fair bit going for her.

Is any of this relevant? People being made redundant, old people who cannot afford to keep themselves warm, families who are worried about paying the mortgage/rent.

Why is this infantile tittle tattle being given web space?
