That special, essential, needy and embarrassing relationship
Thursday 26th May 2011, 6:00AM BST.
So the Special Relationship between the UK and the USA has become, in President Obama’s words, “the Essential Relationship,” writes Peter Rhodes.
Why are we Brits so desperate to be super-bestest friends with the States?
Sometimes it seems like a very Needy Relationship and it’s in danger of becoming an Embarrassing Relationship.
However, if we are allies, then let us link arms and march boldly together into the 21st century, the UK and USA united in liberty, democracy and bankruptcy.

what another stupid, pointless and over the top negative comment

What a inflammatory comment designed to do nothing more than seek attention. It has no supportive content and historically can be shot down in flames. Our relationship with America, gives our opinion weight beyond our realm within the U.N. and G20.
If the author had ever bothered to read a political biography or historical tomb, he’d know this and would look less pig-ignorant.
Atticus; you are not, Sir.

It is CWolf and Koti who are showing their ignorance. The so called “special relationship” has always been one sided. The only thing that matters to the USA is what they call “American Interests”
America has always used Britain – either its territory or its government – to stretch their influence in Europe and the Middle East.
During the cold war it was nuclear bomber bases in Southern England. All other times it was our intelligence gathering they were after.
If ever we threatened to do anything they didn’t like they had no hesitation in blocking it (Suez, blocking our exports to them0 Even our so called nuclear deterrent is not independent. It relies on american satelite codes to target it. There can be turned off by the Americans at will.
Special Relationship? Bunkum!!
