Running again and ready to enjoy the half marathon

Apologies for the lack of posts in weeks gone by. I wish I had a good excuse for it, but the long and short of it is that after my enthusiasm for running peaked just after the Lichfield 10k, I got ill, writes Hannah Webster.

I don’t get ill, I prefer to live in denial until the discomfort subsides. But you can’t really do this if you are running regularly, as I discovered. I ended up making what was a regular cold into something I felt like I had to go into battle with every time I opened my eyes in the morning.

So here’s a little bit of running advice from someone who knows – don’t run when you feel ill. The problem was that I ended up being out of action for a week, and then it started getting cold outside and the old lethargy kicked in. I ended up only going running when I could force myself down to a Bournville Harriers session.

I am now back on form, sort of, except now is the time to taper down for the Birmingham half marathon on Sunday. Perfect excuse not to do much until then!

My aim with this race is just to enjoy it and not worry too much about my time. I know plenty of people who will be well ahead of me, but the point of the day is to have a good time first, and try for a good time second. Given my lack of training lately, I think I’ll be happy with anything under two hours 20 minutes.

We have a record number of Bournville Harriers running the event this year, which will be fantastic, and the club set up a photo of as many of those participating as possible, which you can find here

So good luck everyone, and just enjoy the atmosphere. If the last two years are anything to go by, it will be fabulous!
