What is wrong with these people?

Do you feel ready to forgive Tiger Woods? Because I’m pretty sure I don’t, writes Dan Wainwright.

He has apologised profusely for letting us down over all those affairs with all those women.

But something just doesn’t sit right with me. How could he do it? How could he put the world through it?

A whole 14 minutes of choreographed sugary apology is just unforgivable.

Why on Earth do we even care? So he’s a sportsman who made a billion dollars doing something he enjoyed and then went out and bedded lots of different people. So what?

His wife is about the only person with any real reason to feel aggrieved. All we’ve lost is his smooth face grinning out from razor blade adverts.

Actually, no, I’ve just realised what he’s done. Because of Tiger we are now forced to suffer adverts where the actors pretend they are mechanics and the Gillette Mach 20 with 15 blades Turbo Fusion Power King is a car.

Because I have to suffer that I do judge Tiger, but I still don’t care where he’s been using his putter.

Likewise Vernon Kay. He’s his own worst enemy. What kind of a pillock sends flirty text messages to a girl who spends her days topless in The Sun newspaper and doesn’t think it’ll make it on to the page? Nothing we think about this could possibly make it any worse for him.

And then there’s Ashley Cole. His missus may want to fight, fight, fight for this love but if all he’s going to do is photograph himself and send it to other women then he really is beyond help.

Finally we have John Terry, so frightened of his reputation being tarnished by his philandering he went to such extraordinary lengths to keep it private that the story of his super-injunction even got the broadsheets interested.

So when people like Tiger Woods make such efforts as to apologise to you and me I have to wonder what it’s all for. Because I simply don’t care. It’s not like he’s taken his club and smashed up a bus full of pensioners. I’d far rather he just got back to playing golf and then I can go back to preferring to watch paint dry.

Brilliant – reality at last, role-models indeed!, says who? Anyone who knows anything about the background of these characters would not be surprised by their actions.
