Now that’s what I call pain

If anyone wonders what it’s like to have a heart attack, I reckon doing six quarter-miles in two minutes each comes pretty close to that feeling, writes Hannah Webster.

Well, for me anyway. Boyfriend Paul, however, manages to do the repeats in 15 seconds less each – and managed eight of them when we were training yesterday. He whizzed past me, barely breaking a sweat, as I was huffing and wheezing following my fifth one.

I suppose that’s what you get when you train with your 6ft 4in boyfriend who has been training for six weeks longer than you. But, hey ho – no one said this was going to be easy, after all.

Running along the same vein of feeling a little silly – I have been in ultra-research mode in terms of finding out how to make injuries heal quicker. Apparently one of the things you can do is stretch the affected muscle five to six times a day.

The problem with this is that a lot of the stretches I need to do require me being horizontal, meaning if I am to do them at work I have to use the area outside the cubicles in the ladies’ loos. I stopped doing this after someone I don’t know walked in to see me getting up off the floor, said a bit of an alarmed “sorry….” before heading straight to the toilet before I had the chance to explain.

I have no idea what she thought I was doing, but I’d rather avoid that kind of encounter in future.

I know what you’re going through! I did my first marathon in London last year and followed it up with the Dublin marathon in October. It’s a great feeling when you cross the line, so emotional.

If you need any help or training tips just shout me, even come and join our running club.
