Hednesford manager Dean Edwards has completed the signing of former Manchester United youngster Nicky Carter.

The versatile midfielder joins from Gresley Rovers, a side he skippered last season. He is no stranger to the area, living locally in Rugeley.

Brumpton: Rangers are a coup

Hednesford managing director Terry Brumpton says the club have pulled off a coup in attracting Rangers to Keys Park.

The Scottish giants will send their reserve side for a friendly against the Unibond Premier League outfit on August 6 and Brumpton is anticipating a night to remember.

He said: “We hope it will be a great occasion – it’s not every day we get a Scottish Premier League club playing here, especially such a big name as Rangers.”

Pitmen to take on Rangers

Hednesford Town is to host UEFA Cup finalists Rangers in a pre-season friendly. Tickets for the August 6 fixture will go on sale in the next few days.

The Scottish Premier League side will also line up against Tamworth on August 2.

The game is part of an agreement between the sides following the transfer of 16-year-old striker Kane Hemmings, from Derbyshire, who spent four seasons with The Lambs.

Large crowds are expected for the matches.

Hednesford have appointed new chairman Andrew Savva in a move which could eventually see him take over the club.

The 47-year-old Wolverhampton-based Greek restauranteur, whose investment has seen Dean Edwards appointed manager, has taken the chair from Steve Price.

Savva, who is a big Everton fan, will pump a near equal amount of money into the club as Price next season.
