Michael Kightly has emerged as a surprise contender for a place in Wolves’ starting line-up against Birmingham.
Kightly was expected to be kept out of the spotlight for a couple of games after boss Mick McCarthy said the exciting winger wasn’t up to Premier League pace earlier this week.
But a change in the course of treatment for his sore knees has given the 23-year-old a new lease of life and McCarthy is considering recalling him for tomorrow’s Sunday’s noon showdown.
“He’s in contention – he needed a game, and we might just have to rest him after a game because he’s having some anti-inflammatory treatment for his knees,” said the boss.
“He really has responded to that. He’s felt stronger and sharper, and he seems to have got his strength, power and sharpness back, so fingers crossed.
“We’ve missed that. He was the one who everyone thought would be able to play in the Premier League, but he hasn’t had that opportunity really. He hasn’t been fully fit.
“‘Kights’ came back and wasn’t really at first-team level.
“But he played on Tuesday in the reserves and I thought he was excellent.
“He’s shown a real willingness and determination to get back fit and into the side. And he trained really well yesterday.
“It’s just been difficult for him because he’s had other ailments.
“He’s been our blue riband player – the one that’s set the place alight since walking through the door.”
McCarthy revealed that Kightly has had the humility to admit he hasn’t been up to scratch.
“He admitted it himself,” said the boss. “That humility is a nice quality in players because they don’t all do that.
“I can’t force people into the team, but I want Michael Kightly in the side because I think he’ll be a real threat if he’s fully fit.”
McCarthy has a selection dilemma at right-back tomorrow. Ronald Zubar (ankle) is out, but Michael Mancienne and Kevin Foley are available again, as well as Greg Halford.

I think Jarvis did enough to keep Kiteley on the bench for now. Need Mancienne in the back line somewhere to counter the pace of Benitez and Jerome…and full backs must be the right choices against McFadden who will switch about. Surely that rules Halford out, forget the long throws.
That just leaves breaking Blues defence down. It can be done, but we gotta be a lot sharper in the box. I smell a 1-1 unless SEB comes to the party.

Great news, just the kind of player we need to cause a few problems back to his best! Please don’t play Surman again though, he isn’t good enough for 1st team, but Chelsea was a good game to test him, as we didn’t really stand a chance

Come on Kights give it a good go – my mate Philip Mifsud in Malta is going to be watching and I promised him that we’d win this weekend.

Mick can be so indiscreet. I mean letting slip his favourite biscuit. Which players does he secretly view as arrowroots?

Needs something special to get anything out of this game. Lets hope Kites is that something special, because we really need to get going soon or we’ll end up going nowhere………. again. Come on you Wolves lets kick ass,

#7 genius my friend. As soon as I read this story, I thought, forget the fiddling around, lets hit them 4-4-2 with Kites and Jarvis on the wings. Blakey from on the buses upfront with Doyle. Foley back in at right back. I would be very tempted to play Mancienne in the middle to deal with their pace. I was not exactly looking forward to this one, I felt it had draw written all over it, but I think if we throw 4-4-2 at them we have more than enough to get the win.

All I want on the field is the best team that is available, and for them to try 101% – you can never ask more – other than a little bit of the rub of the green.
Do your best – I will be on the edge of my chair with you all the way.

Watched the game live on tv.First half no passion, belief, tempo not my words but the commentators.Unable to defend second class strikeforce, midfield woefully inadequate,MM is clearly out of his defence at this level.Cant see where next win is gonna come from.

We were unlucky again but we still have two easy games in Bolton and Burnley to come. Keep the faith Mick will sort it out.

All Huff and Puff but no quality product at the end of it, well not good enough for the Premier League.
The players we have are young, a lot of them still are’nt going to peak for another 5 years, so what do we do kick them into touch as they are not good enough yet and then gamble and spend millions on a new squad or “take the hit” yo-yo for a couple of seasons between the Premier & the Championship.
This is a bitter pill but in a couple of seasons this group of players will be real quality and be able to compete in the Premier. The question is as Wolves fans can we be patient enough to wait?

Were are you all now ??? the one,s who see us as staying up? de one,s who think true fans like me are wrong in saying that My BELOVED WOLVES ARE GOING DOWN !!!?

Just finished watching online and all I can say is WHAT A LOAD OF ABJECT RUBBISH!!!!
And before any clever dick says it, NO I CAN’T afford tickets to watch my team. It costs too much for me I’m afraid!
I have tried to keep the faith but after watching that against an average at best Blues team I can only see relegation now. In the first half I think a league 2 side could have scored against us. Also it should have been 0-2 as it was definitely a penalty.
SEB is totally out of his depth in this league I can see that now. If all you can do when your team needs presence in the box is to foul defenders then you are wasting your time. He should be replaced by Keogh ASAP as he can at least provide a decent speed to partner Doyle.
Another injury to kightly who was just starting to look good as well!
I am very angry while typing this I know but I think we should spend NOTHING in January so we at least have some money to replace the players who will no doubt leave once we return to the Championship.
It was a great finish by Bowyer no arguments there but that was in the 3rd MINUTE or so and we are supposed to be at home!
On the subject of Kightly, why did we not start with him? Halford is USELESS. I have said this before but I’ll say it again, WE ARE NOT STOKE AND IT DOESN’T WORK!!!!!
To say I’m gutted doesn’t come close.
It’s as simple as this, if you don’t get your foot on the ball in the middle then teams will beat you.
Ok I’ve vented my anger a little now but we are only going in one direction on this showing BACK DOWN!!
0-1 (should have been 0-2) is not good enough and if any fans believe that the next “B” games will be any different are DILLUSIONAL!!!
Berate me for my negativity if you wish but deep down you know I speak the truth.
