Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has spelled out the grim reality for the club after admitting – ‘We are in a relegation fight and could go down.’
His side remain a point from safety – despite Saturday’s 4-0 thumping at Chelsea – after Bolton’s 2-0 defeat at home to Blackburn yesterday.
But a third of the way into the season Wolves have just 10 points – well below the point-a-game average generally required to stay in the Premier League.
The boss said: “We are in a relegation fight and I’ve said that to the lads. They might as well understand that now than in a few weeks’ time. The fact is we look like a team that could get relegated.
“Everton were in the bottom three for a while but are they a team that looked like getting relegated? There’s a subtle difference there.
“We have to get it out in the open and there can’t be any pussy-footing around. We can’t hide away from it. We can’t keep saying we’re playing well and then get to halfway through the season and still say we’re fine if we’re in the same position.”
After seven games without a victory, the pressure is on Wolves as they prepare to return to Molineux for their next two matches, to Birmingham this Sunday and Bolton – who have a game in hand on them – the following Saturday.
McCarthy is confident his players haven’t been affected by their recent results, despite suffering back-to-back four-goal drubbings to Arsenal and then Chelsea.
He said: “It’s about the next two games and this result won’t knock them. These are the really important ones for us.We weren’t expected to get anything at Chelsea.
“We won’t be judged on Saturday’s performance. But we have to put it to one side because the next two are going to be all-important. We have to play against Birmingham and Bolton like we have done in recent weeks, not like we did on Saturday.
“We understood at the start that there would be a few hard knocks and we’ve just had two on the bounce.
“But I don’t worry about how we’re going to rebound because the players knew they were going to be difficult.”

I think Mick had one too many bangs on the head, during his playing days.
Definitely not the sharpest tool in the box and that is one of the reasons why he will never be a successful top-flight manager.
Who would we like in charge next? Surely sooner rather than later, MM has taken us as far as his skills allow!
My vote – Kevin Keegan, failing that? Possibly a punt with Paul Ince.
Dull Amigo take it you are joking with your well thoughtout list of replacemnet managers? what has Keegan ever done with out Millions and Millions of pounds to spend? yes thats right bottle it and run away! then you say Ince again had his chance at top flight football and was shown up!

2. Albion fans its getting boring. Spend your time constructively trying to find a sponsor.
We lost to Chelsea and Arsenal, we expected it and the REAL fans who were there Sat were noisier than the Chelski fans. We are realists. The next three home games are vital. Away from home anything is a bonus but before Chelsea we went to Stoke and Everton and drew, why not spurs? WE ARE WOLVES.

Number 2
Why on earth would you want Paul Ince as manager??? You think he has a better track record than MM???
First, We need to tighten the defence and stop leaking goals. If Foley is fit get him back in… The Birmingham match will be tough but we have the players to do it.
Well comments like that are really going instill confidence into the team, nice one. As for Saturday, I couldn’t believe that he played 3-5-2 surely a suicidal formation agains a team like Chelsea, bet they could hardly believe their luck.
defending and goalkeeping was second rate, Hennessey should have kept at least two of those out. If he is insistent on resting players then Hennessey should be one of them. I see some are talking of managerial replacements, if he does go then how about Steve Coppell???
Forgot to say, ‘Dull Amigo’ Kevin Keegan??? Do you really want a man in charge who never sees a job through, one who resigns at the slightest thing.
Was at the Bridge on Saturday and unfortunately was sitting in the West stand right in the middle of Chelsea fans. What they were saying was “these Wolves players are very generous and polite!!”
I did not see one player get stuck in. We showed Chelsea much too much respect. Are we afraid of kicking a player who gets paid £100k a week? I would have though we would have got into them and made they feel they were in a game. Instead it was like a friendly practise match. OK, we don’t have the same quality of player, but the least we expect as the paying is public is some fight, determination, will to get stuck in! This was not apparent to me on Saturday. I think there were two yellow cards given. I suspect Stoke would have put the boot in, why can’t we? How else are we going to compete unless we show some spirit and determination.
Henty for all his endeavour is not I am afraid Good enough for this level. What is the point of sending on Castillo to take him off 5 minutes into the second half? If we know we can’t beat Chelsea at playing the ball around why did we not put Maierhofer upfront and let him get stuck into Terry?
I am slowly losing faith in MM as many are. Is he tactically good enough at this level?
As MM keeps saying it’s all about the THREE B’s so lets see how we get on and then let rip!
I don’t think anybody really thoght we would get a great deal from Chelsea but it seemed that the team really didn’t have clue. The team selection surely was wrong for Saturday and now for our manager to say we could go down well he only needs to look in the mirror to see why I hate calling for the managers head but SM and JM must believe that the Championship is not where we should be going back to and if the right results don’t come in the next 2 matches they should have no choice in bringing somebody in that can keep us in the prem. There’s nothing like a bit of pressure but our players will be scared stiff now thanks to Micks well chosen comments.

Mick, the reason Burnley are doing infinitely better than us is simply that they have stuck with their promotion squad, unlike you. Yes, injuries have played a part, but the mishandling of SEB, Jarvis, Kightly and Foley is worrying.
If they are fit, they play. They shouldn’t be benched for ‘tactical reasons’ and so on.
(they were 3 of our ‘Fab Four’ last year who helped get us here).
But isn’t Mick just re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic? He has been sold short by Moxey and Morgan, who explicitly promised that we would never do a ‘WBA’, and would DEFINITELY bring in Premier experience.
They have renaged on these promises and boy it shows. £16m on players, when WBA spent £20m last season.
It wouldn’t be so bad if Moxey hadn’t been in this situation before. But he has. And he will rake in his bonuses again for preparing us for another dismal attempt at Premier League survival.
Thye soundbites soon dried up once we’d renewed our S/Ts BTW.
We all knew we were in the deep stuff when we couldn’t even match Blues for Scott Dann. Or WBA for Jerome Thomas, who was our player!!!!!!!!!!!!
We never did get anyone in after Dann snubbed us, so what does that say about our defence? It ain’t good enough!!

I see the usual idiotic comments have started on here, from the same fools who have been calling for MM’s head for the last 2 years.
They all conveniently overlook the fact that in the last 3 years MM has brought the club further forward than any manager in the last 30 years.
Read that again. It cannot be denied.
From Championship relegation probables, to Championship winners and Premiership stay-afloat hopefuls.
A few questionable tactics, yes. A few questionable selections, yes. A lack of premiership experience, also.
However, WWFC are still a low-budget premier team. We’re still in with a strong shout of survival if people stay behind the team and we win the winnable matches.
Chelsea and Arsenal were never really those games, Blues, Bolton, Burnley all are.
We don’t look much like scoring though. I lack options upfront, given that SEB (for all the singing his name) isn’t performing.

Number 2. Paul Ince,,,,, great idea to get us relegated! Did you not see his record as a Premier Manager. I will stick by Mick to the end and perhaps I am foolish in doing so BUT I am open to sensible suggestions to replacements but I am sorry Paul Ince is NOT the answer although he was a legend as a player.
I cannot believe all this C–P!
Why did we tinker with the foramtion against Chelsea? Richard Stearman played in 3 different positions during the first half alone
We should have stuck to our regular 4-4-2 and given it a go.
With regards to the ’stop pussy footing’ MM should’ve adopted this on Saturday; I cannot understand why Doyle was not playing, surely he would’ve wanted to get the French result out of his system on what better way to do it than scoring against the league leaders.
MM stop trying to pretend we are something that we clearly are not. Play to our strengths by playing players in their correct position and try to fit square pegs in round holes
PS No2 Kevin Keegan – you are off your head!

2. what makes you think that kevin keegan or paul ince would solve any of our problems. Kevin keegan is absolutely hopeless in terms of organisation, so he wouldnt stop us conceeding goals, he would probably cost us more.
Paul Ince also failed miserably in his attempt to manage in the premier league and that was with a blackburn side better than the current wolves one.
MM put this whole team together, sacking him would only damage the team.
Wait and see how we do against the 3 Bs before calling for a new manager.
COME ON YOU WOLVES
Report abuse
Having watched the Bolton and Stoke matches yesterday, the only solace for our team is that there are enough rubbish teams in this League that give us a chance.
The trend lately says we will not make it and the disturbing thing is the form of our promotion rivals, Burnley and Birmingham. They have come into this League showing more guile and better quality football than we have served up to this point.
If management wants to stay up then MM needs to demonstrate that he can pull the squad together and go on a run before Christmas, Failing that, then the owner needs to cut bait and find a new Manager and provide him with the funds necessary to give the team a chance.

I would really like Arsene Wenger, but that’s not going happen.
Just opening debate on it early.
Just interested to know who fans would like at the helm – whether it be MM or someone new.
Valid comments to the Keegan suggestion and only threw Ince out there as he had backing from many fans as a player.
I’ve said it many many times over the last two years Hennesey just isn’t good enough, two more goals given away, no challenge for the header, Ikeme is a far better keeper and should be brought back in from loan.
As for Mick’s comments, I wonder if he had these thoughts when the season started but didn’t want to rock the boat or whether he really thought we were good enough.
The next two games will decide our future in the prem, if we get less than six points we are as good as down under MM and should then seriously think of getting someone else in with experience at this level, and give them a 30 million pound budget for the January window.

So the happy clappers are out in there packs again i see. Since when did Wolves EVER play a 3-5-2 formation? Shocking. We drew with Everton and Stoke away, both hard games, playing a 4-4-2. Keep it simple Mick and do you know what? You won’t get slaughtered! It’s not that hard is it! I can’t believe fans paid up to £50 to watch that gross. Simply embaressing. Refund the fans is what i say. Or beat Blues, Bolton and Burnley and we may just about forgive you.

1, 2, have a week off lads.
Micks right, hes just stating the truth which we all kno, which is that its pretty likley we’ll go down, and it really is down to not spending enough. Doyle is the only signing i’ve been impressed with, hence we had to pay big for him. Halford, Surman, n these types of players just arnt good enough for this level at all. If we were to go down, i hope Morgan keeps faith in Mick, as i feel he’s the right man to get us back up, however i think its shown this season, that tactically, in the PL, Micks out of his depth, could be a nice little yoyo club for a few years!

No. 15 David is spot on, i couldn’t have said it better myself. If you look at our attacking options we shouldn’t be in this position. A defender (and not a very good one at this level) is our leading scorer? We need to sort out the defence and we need a couple of really creative midfielder not workhorses – that way we will give SEB and Doyle the service they need to do what they do best…that’s not defending by the way!

Last years side would muller this years side.
Apart from Doyle we have not signed a single meaningful player.
If Mick plays last years side for our big 3 home games coming up(but Doyle for Iwelumo) we can win.
But something tells me that Mick is a confused man now and has lost his confidence. Because of his management style, this will/has spread through his team.
Blues is the biggest game of the season bar none. Lose to Blues and I think there could be a quick sea change amongst the fans.

I went to chelsea and it was embarrassing. I never expected us to win but we were awful. Its a disgrace and insult to play such a poor team when we all forked out such a lot of money to go. 3-5-2? WTF!
We need at least 7 points from the next 3 home games. I actually think we need 9 but right now i’d take two wins and a draw.
Anything less then that and Mick’s got to go. It’s not a knee jerk reaction but results aren’t good enough. There’s no excuse for Blues and Burnley to be ahead of us.
If we lose against Blues on sun, he’s got to go.
I’d take Curbishley or Coppell over Mick any day. He aint a premiership manager.

Its a joke, not just the last 2 games, bottom but one of the table and BOTTOM of the form table…stats dont lie. Mad Mick has not got a clue, bit like the players on saturday. Its funny how these message boards were quiet when we were doing OK and 16th. Now all the moaners have started, how predictable. For those of us who were there on Saturday the defending was poor but at least we didnt conceed 9 to Spurs. Hull, P’mouth, Wigan, Bolton , Blues and Burnley are no better than us and West Ham, Fulham and Blackburn aint much better. We may stay up by default but who cares. Stick with the boys, if we beat the ‘3 B’s’ the whole position will have changed.

I would respect you Mick if you came out and admitted…not that we are likely to be relegated after a dozen or so games, but have the ‘bottle’ to face your supporters and say what we all know, ‘I am not up to it, and should step down’
I am not worried about going down to Arsenal or Chelsea, its the way we did it worries me, we were a beaten side before we took to the ground on Saturday
Mr Morgan’even blind freddie can see that your investment in Wolves as owner is reducing daily, and you are just meekly watching this happen.
I was always under the impression that you were a very astute businessman, but clearly Mr Morgan, you do not appear to know too much about what it means to be a newely promoted team in the Premiership, and what you must do to ensure survival.
At a rough estimate, Wolves as a going concern at the beginning of the Season would have been worth say 100 million…like to guess what we are worth today, and how much will we be worth on the market if we are relegated this season…You are looking at a sizable loss.
You are surrounded by deadwood and ‘yesterday’s hero’s’ from CEO-Manager- and many of your players….you are going down with the Ship unless you and you Directors make some hard decisions now.
Lets hope Mr Morgan that we wake up one morning soon to read in the paper that you have taken some desisive action between now and the close of the January transfer window
These are desperate times Mr Morgan, and desperate action is needed….we are relying on you.

And where did most of you expect us to be at this point? I thought rock bottom, so we are doing better than I expected!

Others teams playing Arsenal, Chelsea and the like pack the defence and try to frustrate them. So why do we go out to attack them when we know other teams have tried and just get picked off? And Hennessey needs a rest after his last two displays – I’d put 4 of the 8 goals conceded down to him.

Well done Mick ! – a real boost to team morale again. You need to ask yourself “what am I doing wrong” and try to do something about it.
You have now had 33 games in the premier league and have won just two. Obviously this not premiership manager quality.
A bit of soul searching from Steve M and Jez M is needed before the January transfer window if the drop is to be avoided.
What is the point of £25 million in the bank when, apart from Doyle, we seem to have brought in players no better than those we had (and wasted £10m into the bargain).
MM and his players need to step up to the plate over the next few weeks and prove the critics wrong. If they can’t get rid – if anyone will have them.

Is our manager now posting under the pseudonym ‘Whammy’ 58. Such stupidity is beyond comprehension. Saturday showed that MM has no idea of tactics to instill into our players. Mind you they should be aware of it themselves. Why do they keep backing off when the opponents have the ball. Why do we keep passing back — answer is that no-one has the brain power to get into a position to receive the ball. Jarvis, Hennessey, Blake, Kightly should all be transferred.
If we don’t get 7 points from Blues, Burnley and Bolton then we WILL go down and I don’t expect MM to remain at the club. I would also like nothing more than to see Moxey leave but I don’t think he will. Who will replace Mick soon if we don’t get these results I don’t know but the new boss has to have the time realistically to get us out of the mire.

Everyone knows the obvious problems but for some reason the management cannot see them!
PLAYERS – How often do we play the best players we have available in their rightful positions, match after match? We do not have sufficient ‘class’ players to rotate like some clubs can, so we must play our best players.
TACTICS – attempting to ‘match’ a class side ie Arsenal or Chelsea is just not going to work. Class is permanent, luck is not!
Stoke, Burnley and Brum can do it, so why can’t we?
MANAGEMENT – Games at other clubs are watched frequently by Mick and Co., so again if Stoke, Burnley and Brum can gain points from the ‘lesser lights’ and even from the top 4 then why can’t we do it?
JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW – Are we seriously looking to bring in experienced Prem players or not during the window and will the money be made available?
If Steve Morgan and/or Jez Moxey are going to play the Christmas skinflints this year, then Wolves will inevitably go down BUT if they invest wisely (always presuming in our precarious position that we can attract the right kind of players) then we may manage to stay up.
CONCLUSION – So what’s it to be WWFC? Investment to stay in the Premier League or a repeat of the dark days of the Bhatti Brothers when no investment = no fans, so even less investment = so no fans at all – Result, WWFC could be no more!
Over to you Messrs Morgan, Moxey & McCarthy!!!

Mick has earned his bra
He’s only stating a fact. We could go down we need to play the players that won the championship last year and we will walk it. The three B’s won’t know what’s hit them.

Its just unbelieveable that a Manager could say that in November

The apologists for Mick should consider the contrast between this abject surrender and the fighting 5-2 loss last time we were in the premiership. Although Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank’s hat-trick sank us in the last 20 minutes we had fought back brilliantly and seemed to be in with a chance of winning. Mick talks the hard man talk but has no real fire in the belly.

We will never survive in the Premiership with Mick McCarthy in charge. How can he motivate players with some off his comments, like after the Chelsea match “We expected nothing and that is what we got”
With an attitude like this it would appear that we go into the games against the top teams just to make up the numbers,
IT’S PATHETIC!

First no.15 Dave have you forgot Dave Jones who should never have been sacked in te first place?Secondly it is not the players who should take the blame for our plight but Mad Mick who cannot work out his best team, who cannot work out the correct tactics and who doesn`t know how to instil a fighting spirit into a side and certainly hasn`t got a clue when buying players.Mick change the keeper for a start and why not give the Hoff a run?why die you buy him.Why aren`t you playing Kites fromthe start? And lastly why don`t you take a hike?My choice for Manager–Avram Grant or Martin Jol certainly not Ince.Keegan is always an option but I would want assurances that he wouldn`t walk away until the job was done.Whatever happens we have to spend big money in January but the lower we are the harder it will be to get the right players in.

Not interested in quotes or good honest asessments I’m interested in what the plan of action is to ensure we don’t go down or at least give ourselves the best possible chance. 4 quality players in Jan is a must even if we take 9 points from the 3 B’s games. We will beat the Blues if MM and the boys are brave enough.

I think the man management skills must have come from the Roy Keane Book of Compassion. Those type of comments will certainly lift the spirits of an already demoralised squad. For God’s sake Mick, roll yer sleeves up, and keep yer gob shut. Mark MaGoo suffered with the same verbal affliction, say it behind closed doors, not to the press. We all know relegation is a threat, the same as we know night follows day, you insult us at times.Northern honesty is an admirable trait, coupled with time and place even more so.Everyone is banging on about Doyle being the only class act, he has not set the place alight as yet, as he cannot do it alone. Mix and match Mick, be seen to be trying. Hennessey needs a rest, think of the results before you consider the upset the lad might endure if he is dropped, he can look at his wage slip for solace. Lose the crowd and you will be in trouble.

63 – mike_wolves. Absolutely spot on.
The time to have sacked Mick was at the end of last season. We didn’t. Now is not the time to sack him. He has a better record than any potential replacement to get us back up.
However, should we manage to stay up I don’t agree that it proves he can manage in the Prem league. I think it shows that there are worse managers/clubs in the division and that we’d been lucky.
So I’d actually sack him if we stayed up – rather than the other way round.
In the meantime, we’ve got to enjoy the ride. I asked a mate of mine (Chelsea fan who was there on Sat) what he thought of us, as a Neutral, and he said that we failed to put a decent challenge in all game. He said he always laughs when players queue up to get the Chelsea players’ shirts after a match ‘cos it proves they think they’ll be going down.
I think a big danger is that the players look deflated. For all of MM’s talk that it’s a young squad etc., he has failed to add any experience – which could prove invaluable at this stage to buck people up. As much as I dislike Carsley, that’s the type of player we’re missing.

77: Living in hope
How do you see Wolves going under, Wolves even with 12 fit players 3 years ago at the start of the MM era was averaging 20,000 a week, so no matter what little money is there, there are still the die hards who go through thick and thin.
Also I think you’ll find the bhatti brothers are far different to Morgan. They robbed the club blind where as Morgan is just making the club live within its means. big difference!!

MM is only be realistic and stating what a lot of us are thinking. No suprise we lost to Chelsea and Arsenal, did anyone really beleive we would beat them? What we must now do is pick up points from the ‘lesser’ Prem teams. The teams efforts cannot be questioned (apart from the Blackburn match). We were always going to find this season very tough so it is no suprise were we sit at the moment. Keep the faith, support your team (and management !). These lads are doing their best and that is all that can be asked of them.

For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.

You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

As for buying new players in January – what’s the point. We could buy Ronaldo but it wouldn’t make any difference since he doesn’t use them anyway.
Sorry fans, that abject performance I witnessed at Stamford Bridge on Saturday said it all. It has to be a new manger quickly or we’re done for – same as Sunderland were with him. Sorry, the formatting didn’t work (No. 98). Bottom line, after 50 games managing in the top league, Mick’s record hardly inspires confidence.
4 wins, 8 draws, 38 defeats. 33 scored, 96 conceded.
Let’s hope the trend is bucked against the three Bs; Birmingham, Bolton and Burnley. Otherwise, B could stand for ‘bottom’ by Christmas – and we all know what that means.
No 26,No one expected to win against Arsenal or Chelsea but we expect the team to compete, be hard to beat and give a good account of themselves. None of which they have done. paul hart beleives goal difference could be crucial towards who stays up, and we are shipping goals, all preventable from silly mistakes and poor defending. All the teams around us inc portmouth have much better defensive records that us.Look at it this way we probably need to score 2-3 against bham to win this game as we concede 1-2 in every game.

We will be relegated, then Mick should surely either get the sack or resign for the club’s and his own good. It’s his own fault anyway, poor team selection aswell as poor transfer dealings has cost us relegation. lets support mm and really get behind the team for the next three games. If it does not produce at least 6 points then we have got a real decision to make. We keep him and go down but might do alright next season or we have a proper go and get rid of not just him but the wage structure and ambition the club has at the moment. A question i ask myself and really we all should is are we prepared to maybe pay more money for tickets/merchandise maybe sell naming rights to molineux because really if we aint bank rolled by the middle east then this could be the only way to finance a proper stab at the big time. But for saying that burnley are having a good go so perhaps it is all mm’s fault!

Mick should save his ‘Bluff Northerner’ act for the pundits’ couch on the Box- these wince-making comments are unhelpful to all concerned. As if he hadn’t made things difficult enough for himself already. It’s becoming an inescapable truth that his record in the Prem simply doesn’t stand up to scrutiny; I wonder whether his demeanour suggests someone who’s already resigned to the inevitable, both personally and professionally? If there is to be a change at managerial level, it needs to happen imminently, with an impending batch of winnable games that might enable a new manager to get fans on his side, and also persuade potential signings that we may still be a viable proposition for survival. And it would need to be an educated (i.e. non-sentimental/showbiz) appointment. Curbishley would be the pragmatist’s choice…

57… Senior Wolf
I agree with your point on Mick not knowing his best team – players, formation and tactics are changed every week whilst teams like Burnley and Blues play to their strengths. Why are we not playing to our strengths??
The formation that won us promotion was 4-4-2 with Jarvis and Kightly, with Ebanks and Iwelumo up front. So why on earth did we not but any more players to fit into that formation??? Why mess about with the Surman’s and Halford’s of this world when 3-4 quality players such as Doyle would have done it. Get the ball out wide and cross it into the big man – job done.
Last season the dross that was served up when Kightly and Jarvis was injured is what we have this year – no creativity in the middle of the park. Henry and Castillo are no better a partnership than Henry and Quashie last year. Yet we end up with Halford and Surman as wing backs away at Chelsea?? We were lucky not to lose by double figures.
Mick really has two games to try and turn this around – 4 points is a minimum and the saving grace is that there are teams like Hull and Wigan still around us who are just as bad.
Team for Blues;
Hennessey
Stearman
Berra
Mancienne
Ward (if fit), if not Elokobi
Kightly
Jarvis
Edwards
Henry
Hoff
Doyle
Get tbe ball out wide and hit the Hoff!!!

The last 5 games were always going to be tough, & it was always going to be a case of how we emerge after being outclassed in the last 2 of those 5.
I thought we’d emerge 6 points adrift..so just 1 behind is really pretty hopeful. Those 3 creditable draws seem long forgotten though, and the nature of the Chelsea defeat has made things very depressing.
But we all need to put it behind us & get some confidence back for the next few games. Its easier said than done, but the fact is one win & were out of relegation, & then Chelsea will be long forgotten.
It will still be tough & failing to take at least 6 points from the 3B’s will look very grim by Christmas…but it ain’t over till its over. After Christmas we play them all again, & we simply have to do better.
Simon :)

Is that a motivational speech Mick, or reverse psycology?? A few points to consider, previous statements from Mick have been:
1/ I never look at the league table until May?
2/ I fear Portsmouth…he talked us into defeat.
3/ I don’t know how to beat Chelsea?
4/ We have to take points from our fellow strugglers, West Ham, Blackburn, Hull, Portsmouth. Ahh he meant point??
5/ We could be relegated?
Steve Morgan if I said to my boss I can’t do the job you pay me to do he would show me the door. We have to stop these players talking drivel in the E&S. If they can state how good Chelsea are or were on the day they must have been ball watching at the Chelsea Circus. I have to feel for young Surman being baptised in such a manner. To all the other Wolves players who have been in the team consistently all season, well you should have shown more fight & spirit. If the tatics were wrong & not working the captain (Henry) should have said something to Mick at HT, or changed it himself. Even the late great Bobby Robson got it wrong in 1990 WC & the England captain Wright changed them. Personally I don’t want CCC football again & with MM talking defeat in this EPL campaign already it really is time for Steve Morgan to resolve the managerial problem. Didn’t I read pre-season that Morgan was looking to bring in a Director of Football type figure to assist Mick??

Two pennies worth from Canada. The premiership is about the dosh. If you’re not willing to spend, it’ll be a short stay. Agree with ben (13) on SEB, Jarvis, Kightly and Foley.
Dismaying is this defeatist talk (i.e. expecting nothing from Chelsea). Surest way to get nothing. Back in 2003, I recall a 1-0, against all odds win, against Man U.
And give Mick a break for at least a month or two. Somebody talked about bringing in Steve Coppell and giving him the resources he needs. How about keeping Mick and giving him the resources he needs. As galling as it may be, in the Premiership, if you don’t pay – or get extremely lucky with the chemistry of a bargain basement team – you don’t play.
And to the comedian from Walsall, congratulations on the 1-1 draw with Brentford.

No 70. How can you say Foley has not stepped up when he has been injured virtually all season. SEB has also been out for a while and then subjected to team and tactical selections that won’t get the best out of him. I believe he has the talent to succeed but needs support from the manager. McCarthy’s comments are typical of a manager who is not the sharpest tool in the box. Morgan should sack him now and give the new man time to assess the squad before the January window. Possible replacements should include Owen Coyle, Alan Irvine, Alan Curbishley and perhaps Steve Coppell.

unfortunately the biggest problem is that it would appear that MM does not seem to know what is his strongest team to put out. If after they’d had a chance they turned out not to be good enough then so be it. At the moment I have no sense of what our “team” is any more (and I’m not sure that Mick does)and the squad is certainly not good enough for all the chopping and changing that’s going on. We did well last year because for good chunks of the time we played mostly the same players who gelled as a team. We’ve lost that now. I know he’s injured but I’d rather have watched Dave Jones than Milijas or Castillo if he’d been fit, I’d rather watch Foley than Zubar and I’d rather watch Jarvis than anyone else who’s been played instead of him.

The logic of ” even if we go down we will come straight back up again” is sadly misguided and delusional. “Stars” like Kightly, Blake and Jarvis would want out, and be interesting to see how much we got for them? about 50pence on current form I reckon. Doyle would leave, Craddock will be too old, and “luxury” players like Milijas just won;t hack the hustle and bustle of the CC league. When we are relegated, because this is straing us in the face, it will be an unmitigated disaster. Blame Moxey and Morgan for not spending the cash. When all our better players have gone, I can see us being another Ipswich or Norwich, and then lets see how good 30million is in teh bank. The Board make me sick, they experienced the calamity of 2003, and, 6 years later, they have learnt nothing.Moxey out!!

Part of the problem is that we were promised a team that would compete at this level. In reality – we have bought players that have not really strengthened the squad ( Hannemann, Halford, Surman, Berra, Meirhoffer) and apart from Kevin Doyle – the other signings that could have made a difference either havent settled well or have become injured ( Castillo, Melijas and Zubar)Thats 8 of the squad ineffective from day one !! I still think we can stay up – but only if MM starts to get the likes of Foley Kightly Ebanks Blake Ward and Keogh back to sharpness – gets the non performers ie Melijas to perform and help Doyle and Jarvis ( who are doing well) realises Elokobi, Henry, Berra, Craddock, Halford, Meirhoffer and Surman are either not good enough or ready yet for this league ! Its in our own hands – and I would say – lets see where we are at the beginning of the transfer window before acting !! If it needs a big shove then – then thats what needs to be done !

Noisy – 108.
To be fair, there were a number of season ticket holders who sit around me (myself included) who were saying that last year. I appreciate it was our first trophy in 20 years and that MM has done an excellent job in 3 years, but I think it would have really signalled our intent had Morgan gone out and made a big appointment upon our return to the Prem. (And by the way, the players are contracted to the club not the manager so wouldn’t have to go as well ;-) )
We might have added more premiership quality than we have as opposed to hoping that the squad would be able to take the massive step up – which it is proving very difficult to do. Whilst no doubt MM wants to prove that he’s not just a master at getting teams promoted to the Prem (and I couldn’t resist the temptation to say that he’s on the way to proving he’s a master at getting teams relegated from the Prem as well!) there’s no room for sentiment in what has, rightly or wrongly, become a big business.
In the 3 season’s McCarthy was manager in the Championship our record against the poor sides in the division was excellent – like it was when he got Sunderland promoted. His record against the better sides was very poor (in 2007/8, when we finished 7th for example, we won once against the top 9 teams – 1 win in 16).
These better sides are the Hulls, Portsmouths, Birminghams etc, that we have to be beating to stand a chance of staying in the Prem. Nothing that I’ve seen so far this season suggests that he’s capable of turning this around. But I’d clearly be delighted if he/we can.
Anyway, it’s all irrelevant. We’ve got him and by my reckoning, if we got 9 points from the next 3 home matches, that would put us back on track (rather than ahead) for the 37 points we need to survice.

The same old fools said the from these pages said the following :
1) On McCarthy’s appointment – he’s the wrong man for the job.
2) On Eastwood – He must play, he’s the best !
3) On the seasons we came 7th – He’s the wrong man, he’ll not take us up.
4) During the bad run over winter last season – sack him now, he’ll not take us up, we’re gonna blow it.
And now you’re all saying we’re doomed. Excuse me if I side with a guy who has footballing experience, has done wonders for this club and isn’t just a typical E&S wolves poster.

Yep, thats the one. Spot on.

And another thing if we do fail this season and MM leaves Moxey must go with him!!!

The reason we are down the bottom is not because of Arsenal and Chelsea its because we didnt beqat Hull, Portsmouth, West Ham at home. All this doom and gloom since the last two games is nonsense cause we would lose those 2 matches no matter who was in charge of the current team.
At this stage Id say we look like a team heading down. We are now even sounding like a team already doomed which is not true but how do we install belief in the players with such a defeatest attitude from the management staff………. We should not mention the relegation battle at this point and focus on stuffing the Blues.

Right, everyone who says get mick out an the board, dont come again this season, i ad a bloke behind me at Chelsea and all he was doin was moanin, if your Going to moan, dont come until we are relegated and winnin games, did most of you really think we would beat Chelsea ay, your all havin a laugh, support the lads, not moan, up the wolves!

How can you say MM is a better manager than Bill McGarry, even Sammy Chung and John Barnwell? We were more competitive in the top flight under these 3 blokes!

It seems that everyone has become very depressed with our predicament at the moment.
It all remind me of scenes from the film Zulu, a true story of about one hundred soldiers against thousands of zulus.
The preacher shouting ” you are all going to die, your doomed”
The private saying to the seargeant “why us” Then the seargeant say “because we are here son” The Britsh withstood the swarms of zulus for days by standing strong & finally the zulus saluted the braves for being brave warriors. Now Micks comments & the unrest amongst fans & players now make you feel like “we are all going to die” What we need is a massive change in attitude, & tactics. Tactics won the battle against the zulus & if Mick has not got it in him, lets get someone who will fight to the death & be tactically aware.

Now that my anger has subsided. Its time to look ahead to sunday by which I expect us to be bottom of the table if Pompey win there match…. I think they are playing before us.
MM needs to go back to basics. 4-4-2 at home 4-5-1 away. Every other team are doing it. Why cant we!
I think wolves will recall Kites, Macinnene, Zubar.
Henns ok, not the best game, but he is the best goalie we have at the momnet, The problem is that he is not getting the support from his centre halves who both has a mare. Craddock looked like the craddock of 2003.
I liked the look of Surman, I think he and edwards should be the centre midfield pairing, but I cant see MM dropping Henry. OK Henry breaks up attacks but he is not positive with the ball, he doesnt create anything. I think Edwards and Surman are a better bet with Kites & Jarvis who is finding his feet on the wings. Doyle & either Ebanks or AK up front. I think MM knows that Doyle & Ebanks cant play together. Ebanks likes Big Chris style of approach play. Its the best side we have,,, but its blantly obvious that Wolves are a team devoid of confidence, and it stems from the top because if MM looks defeatist, then it will rub onto the players.
If we dont win against Blues then MM needs to do the decent thing and resign, he will save face, wolves fans will thank him for taking us as far as he can, but it will need someone else with tactical know how of this league to drag us back up the table. That person is Curbs!
Finally when the going gets tough,,, you never hear a peep from Moxey & Morgan! I wonder way….
But you know what will happen before christmas,, Moxey will come out of his pie factory and announce half price season tickets for the fans… i.e to rob more money out of the loyal fans! Well Moxey,,, prepare yourself for a winter of discontent if this form continues!

We have no presence in either 18 yard box. For all his merits, Hennessey just doesn’t command his area and our defence lacks confidence. Meanwhile, on the rare occasions we get the ball up the other end of the field, we just don’t have a clue what to do to create a chance from open play. Changing the manager won’t change the way things are going for us right now. We need to change attitudes and inject some self-belief!! Talking about relegation in November is a classic example of accepting second-best, and when they read that sort of thing, it’s worth at least a goal to every club we play. We are in the Prem on our own merits, just as the Baggies and Walsall are in the minor league on their own merits. Mix it up a bit Wolves, instead of pussy-footing around with the prima donnas! JFDI.

158 Walsall and the baggies are in the minor league and wolves are in the premier the only mix up there is they are a championship team with championship players.

150 Andy-
well at least you make a coherent argument even if I disagree. This board now seems to be split between people who think we should still be playing the Championship side and people who think we should have bought an entirely new team.
‘Fans’ are always the same – if you win everything is right and if you lose everything is wrong. The whole point of being a proper manager is about knowling how to strengthen when you win and what to leave alone when you lose.
Two seasons of taking up teams by making good buys and then struggling with insufficient investment does not make him not uo to the task in my opinion.
I agree that even 3 wins only puts us on track, but all I want is for everyne to pul together, because divided we will fall.

I used to have a bad feeling in my stomach every time we lost in the 2003 premiership season, that feeling is not present this season because I am already resigned to the fact that we would in all probability be going down. It does not matter who the manager is, but until we have established ourselves as a premiership team then no one of any significance is going to sign for us (as an example look at how hard Hull have being trying to sign Top class players without success)Reading did well and are now down, you can add Leeds, Southampton, Charlton the Baggies and numerous others as testiment to the fact that you have to survive in the premiership for a few years before players take an interest in playing for you. The one exception I would put to this is Portsmouth as even winning the F.A. Cup has made no difference(so far this season)to their chances of staying up. So until the likes of Kightly, Ebanks-Blake etc stop telling us how confident they are and actually start producing the goods then its no good blaming the 3 M’s for our fate. As I’m sure like everyone else the 3 M’s would rather be toasted as a success (and are desparately trying to make it happen) then be lambasted for failure.

I am getting increasingly fed up with the idiots who as soon as things start to go wrong call for McCarthys head. It wouldn’t matter if Alex Ferguson was in charge, nothing would change as he would still have the same squad of players to work with. Until we have become an established premiership club no one of any real significance is going to sign for us. Just look at how hard Hull tried to sign decent players in the Summer without getting anywhere as an example. Unfortunately for Wolves and football in general Sky have made the top 6 or 7 clubs so rich (I know they have now got rich owners, but they didn’t have before Sky came along and made them look a good investment)that they are now unrelegatable, and the rest of us are scrapping for a chance to play in the europa league (or the premiership next season). So the only solution is for the likes of Kightly, Ebanks- Blake etc to stop telling all and sundry how confident they are and start producing the goods otherwise they will be classed as just good championship players and nothing else. On the subject of how good a manager Ferguson is, wasn’t it he, who let Ebanks-Blake go(so he must know something)to Plymouth. So if you want to moan, then moan at the players who are not producing, and tough if it bruises their fragile ego’s.

I am getting sick and tired of the likes of people like “wolf” who as soon as things go wrong call for McCarthys head. It would not matter who was in charge nothing would change as they would still have the same squad of players to work with.
If these people must moan then moan at the players for not putting enough effort into their work (which no doubt they are handsomely paid for). No player of any real significance is going to sign for Wolves until we have established ourselves in the top flight, its a fact, just look at how hard Hull tried to sign players in the Summer with hardly any success as an example.
Kightly, Ebanks-Blake (Ferguson who I presume the likes of “Wolf” et al would like to see as manager, sold him to Plymouth, so what does that tell you about his ability or potential in the premiership?)are always harping on about how confident they are about staying up etc, its about time then that they started producing premiership form before its to late, and they become known as just good quality championship material. Support McCarthy, I’m sure he would love to have the likes of Kaka etc but he hasn’t and just undermining him is only going to sap the remaining confidence out of the club. Unfortunately for Wolves and football in general Sky have turned out to be a poisoned chalice. They have made the top 7 or 8 clubs so attractive a proposition that they now have very rich owners and as such are virtually unrelegatable. The rest of the premiership clubs now start each season hoping that they qualify for the europa league at best and avoid relegation at worst. Its a hard fact of life, the Wolves, Charlton’s, Leeds, Southampton’s, Readings etc of this world are going to be the premiership cannon fodder for the big clubs, and to stay up have to rely on beating each other.

no 164, there are two ways to try to stay in the prem. when you get promoted to the prem,be ruthless and get rid of the championship players who you feel wont cut it at a higher level and spend real money to buy better players, like Sunderland did under Roy Keane, or develop a playing style game in the championship, and buy players with potential to play at a higher level and if you get promoted, add to your existing squad like reading, hull, fulham under Tigana, burnley have done and just keep playing the same way. MM has done neither and I’m sorry to say many of his championship level players are being found out at this level.
He has not added significant quality to the squad, or got rid of players he though could cut it at this level.

i think we should lay off mick its the board who have only given him a pittance to spend (with the exception of doyle)who are responsible. moxey spurting out rubbish to sell season tickets slating the albion for not spending enough (when they spent 20 mill)and that we learnt from the last time that you need premiership players. well where are they?what we spent is a lot less on players who just don’ have the quality although they give their all that just isn’t enough in this league.without some major investment come january we will go down.i would of liked to have seen them at least compete on saturday think they all took their autograph books with them admiring chelseas stars instead of doing what burnley or brum do and get stuck into them, at least these teams don’t just roll over like us they have a go and show noone any respect at least let them know they’ve been in a game.usually we compete well but like the blackburn and the arsenal match we capitulated.don’t mind losing but its the way you lose.performances need to improve for these next 2 matches 6 points a must for me or we will be cut off come january and then no decent player is gonna want to come

What is so depressing is the fact that we were shipping in goals pre season and nothing was done about it, also the fact that Burnley and Brum are doing so match better. Some muppets on here still say its not about chelsea etc its about bolton , burnley forgetting about how we did against west ham, Hull and portsmouth.

I’m not gonna just jump onto Mick’s back like most of you lot though I would question his team selection with regards to the fact Milijas has been left out of the last two games, Now I don’t think he is injured so I would wonder why our most technically gifted midfielder is being left out of the side when he created both goals against Stoke.
We are due a win against the Zulus this Sunday. UTW

163, 164, 165 paperchase. What drivel you write, if Sir Alex was here as a manager with the same players MM has at his disposal he would have them playing to a dedicated system & tatics. Thats the ability of the man, he would instill some passion, fight even football. Yes that word football, is what we are suppose to be playing. He may even encourage our midfielders to have a few long range shots at goal!! I even believe Steve Coppell, Kevin Keegan, Alan Curbishley would develop a system the players might understand & get an understanding between them.
Hurry up & get match fit Dave Jones we so desperately need a left side genius & I for one have always rated your ability when you were at Preston & Derby, you come to us & you are not even a regular when fit!
Anyway besides all that I wish you well on Sunday but I think our defence will fear Jerome again. He is a banker to score, from open play too!!

Like most here I have that sinking feeling – there where some good performances against Stoke, Everton – but watching the Arsenal, Chelsea games what are the players doing sitting back and watch the other team play?
Any player who is more interested in swapping shirts at the end of the game, would not be in any team of mine – they should be so physically shattered by the effort they have put in trying get some thing out of the game, they sink to the ground at the final whistle………..in disappointment.
