Brunt’s caution for Albion fans

ALBION 24 SL 21Albion star man Chris Brunt is cautioning Baggies fans not to expect the Hawthorns goal glut to keep coming as the club stay on course for promotion.

The 4-1 thrashing of Bristol City on Saturday followed the 5-0 defeat of Watford and brought to 11 Albion’s tally from the last three games.

But Brunt, top of the scoring charts with five after scoring a superb second against City, reckons fans should not expect a repeat of the 100-goal spree that lit up the title-winning campaign of two years ago.

He said: “It would be nice to finish top, but the aim is to get promoted no matter what. We can look at that towards the end of the season, it’s early. But 2-1 is as good as 4-1.

“It’s good that the fans are seeing goals and it’s nice to score them, but hopefully they won’t get too carried away – if we grind out a 1-0 win then that’s just as good. Obviously the fans want to see it, we want to score three or four goals every week. But it’s not always going to be possible.

“Teams like Palace and Swansea have come here, made it difficult for us and got results. We’re not shipping as many goals as we were last season.

“It was a good win – the two goals after half-time killed the game off and we also had chances to score more. It was disappointing to concede a late goal but this was a convincing win, it’s important to put the points on the board at home.”

But Brunt admitted that Albion’s form is exciting for the players to.

He added: “City had only lost two games and had a good record coming here, but on this performance, it was pretty convincing and a lot of teams are not going to be able to live with us.

“Teams have come here and made life difficult for us, but it wasn’t to be this time. Everything seemed to fall into place.”
