We’ve got nothing to lose says Henry

WOLVES V WEST HAM 4 GD 15 Wolves captain Karl Henry summed up the feeling in the dressing room ahead of the trip to Chelsea after declaring – ‘We’ve got nothing to lose.’

The all-action midfielder has been a driving force in the engine room to emerge as one of the key figures in their Premier League campaign.

Henry, who turns 27 next Thursday, knows he and his team-mates will have their work cut out at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

But the Molineux skipper insists Wolves will play with freedom at the home of the Premier League leaders.

He said: “Definitely we’ve got nothing to lose, which is a good thing. We can go and play and try to upset a top team.

“There is no pressure on us – all the pressure is on Chelsea to attack us and get goals. It’s not a bad position to be in, but it is a good opportunity for us to give a good account of ourselves.”

Henry would no doubt relish the challenge of tracking Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack tomorrow, but it looks as if the goalscoring midfielders will be out with respective thigh and infected knee problems suffered on international duty.

But they still have Deco, Jon Obi Mikel and Michael Essien jostling for position in central midfield, as well as Joe Cole and Florent Malouda on the wings.

Henry has joined the growing clamour to make Carlos Ancelotti’s squad title favourites.

He said: “They’ve got a fantastic team – that’s why they’re favourites to win the Premier League. We’ve been watching these teams – Chelsea and Manchester United – for the last three years on Match of the Day and how the title races in the Premier League have been unfolding.

“Now we can maybe make a difference, so it’s a great opportunity. If we can give a good account of ourselves and take something from the game it would be fantastic.”

Henry believes Wolves have not amassed the points their attacking football deserves so far, but insists boss Mick McCarthy should not compromise his ideals.

He said: “We’re not naive enough to think we’re the only ones sitting here thinking we should be on more points. Everyone will have dropped points they feel they shouldn’t have.

“We’ve been playing well and we don’t think our points are a reflection on that.”
