Albion defender Jonas Olsson has urged England not to overlook in-form Baggies goalkeeper Scott Carson in the battle to resolve the nation’s World Cup goalkeeping fix.
Carson, who is putting his career and reputation back together at the Hawthorns after a bitter introduction to the international stage under Steve McClaren, has dropped out of the main contenders with his club’s relegation to the Championship.
But the 24-year-old is not off Fabio Capello’s radar, as was made clear when he had to decline a call for the recent trip to Ukraine because of injury.
Olsson believes it should be seen as an advantage to be playing regularly at the top of the Championship.
The Swede said: “England have so many great players on high levels everywhere. That’s not to say that Scott shouldn’t play, because I think he should.
“For me, it should not make any difference if you are bottom of the Premier League or top of the Championship.
“But for a keeper, confidence is a major thing. And being a goalkeeper playing in the top team in the Championship as compared to a reserve keeper at a great club, you have to have a bit of confidence if you are starting every game and performing as Scott has this season.”

Lee Carsley for Graham Dorrans haha please stop talking rubbish we don’t want a has been. Dorrans has got a great future ahead of him and 8m should be enough to get him we don’t need Carsley.

Well said, there is no way on gods green earth that we would take carsley.

Not too sure what the Carsley for Dorrens theme has to do with the Carson story (thats Scot not Carson Young!) but IMO if crybaby Curtis is worth £10M i would take no less than £15M for Dorrens – at the end of the day, we dont need/wish to sell him!

I like Alex MacLeish’s sense of humor 1.5 million for Graham Dorrans plus a has been.
I think that Alex should go back to school and rub up on his Maths because he has put the decimal point in the wrong place, it should have read 15 million plus a has been. Then we ‘might’ just think about it.
Also Graham would prefer to play in the Premiership League in 2010 with the Albion, not back in the Championship with Birmingham next season.
C’mon you Baggies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are in the fortunate position that because of our sound financial footing, we don’t need to sell anyone. While Graham might be unsettled by an offer from one of the big four, this isn’t the case with the Blues. I also think that his value will continue to increase and two years down the line he’ll be worth an absolute fortune. Let’s hope by then we will be in such a position that he won’t want to leave us.
I can dream can’t I?

Maybe we should all read Scott Carson’s comments about being a ‘roving footballer’. It ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. He loves being settled, being Captain of a good club, having his children settled at school and we don’t penny-pinch our best players in salary either. I think we have the makings of a really good side which could do well in the Prem once the players acclimatise. If I were JP I’d make sure Roberto is on a long contract because we are at a stage where folks are looking at several players in our team and I can’t see a bad buy yet that he’s made. Add to that the failures who now look class, Meite, Cech, Moore, (you add your own), then maybe Dorrans, Carson, Koren, Cech, will choose to stay if approached. Don’t be surprised if Jerome Thomas is on some Prem club’s Christmas list. That goal he scored yesterday was sublime. So good in fact, Bruntie showed us an entirely different one. Anyone heard how Joe Mattock is?
