The driver, who was in his 30s, was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital suffering from neck pain.
Residents said more than 20 heavy goods vehicles have hit the bridge in the past five years.
Tamieka Gray has lived in Great Bridge Road since March.
The 24-year-old bank worker said today: “This is a constant problem and has happened at least twice since I moved in. It has happened several times over the years.
“The lorries simply can’t get under the bridge and it causes a lot of problems for residents. The road has been closed off now and the emergency services are everywhere.”
The Metro line remained open, but trams could only cross the bridge at “walking pace”.
