Bednar in call for unity

Bednar 1 RH 07Roman Bednar today urged Albion’s players to see out the season and help the Baggies return to the Premier League.

Hawthorns officials are preparing for the January transfer window and possible interest in their leading players.

But Bednar is calling on the entire squad to stick together – at least until the end of the campaign.

“I don’t think the transfer window will trouble us too much,” said Bednar.

“We will have players being watched because we have good players. But if everyone is involved and we are in the promotion spots then I’d say ‘stay and help us get up, and if you get us promotion, then feel free to make your decision’. But I hope people will stay.” Robert Koren this week questioned his future at The Hawthorns in an interview in Slovenia and head coach Roberto Di Matteo admitted the 2008 Championship winner could leave in January.

And Premier League scouts are also reportedly keeping tabs on young Scotland international Graham Dorrans, who has kept Koren on the sidelines and made a major impression on the Baggies team.

But Bednar believes that the Baggies’ Championship triumph of two years ago proves the entire squad will be needed.

“You need everyone at some stage,” he said. “When you play in this league you get injuries. Last time I didn’t even play before mid-November and scored 17 goals.”
