Summer signing Simon Cox has been assured he is in the running to start for Albion against Watford on Saturday.
Head coach Roberto Di Matteo has told the former Swindon hit-man is in his thoughts for the clash with the Hornets at The Hawthorns.
Cox pressed his claims for a second League start in Baggies colours by scoring for the reserves in their 2-2 draw at Port Vale on Monday.
Now Di Matteo has told the 22-year-old his time could be now.
The Baggies boss said: “I always look at the whole squad, try to consider form and who are the best XI to win the game – obviously he is one of those.
“He is a player that I would like to see scoring. All the players that don’t get picked regularly will have a sense of frustration, but we need everybody and that is part of the squad game in a long season.
“Simon just needs to be scoring goals. When he gets in and has half a chance or a proper chance it would be good if he scores. That will definitely help our cause.”

So he “just needs to be scoring goals” to get a starting spot.
On that basis, why has Luke Moore been selected this season, as he has only managed to score in 1 game ?
At least Cox puts himself about and gives himself a chance of scoring.
Get him in the side on Saturday alongside Bednar cos the natives are getting restless, Mr Di Mateo

Well he can’t score goals if he is not playing can he Roberto?? He must play on Sat. Moore has had his chance. Bednar and Cox for me.
Also we are crying out for a vocal captain on the pitch someone who can gee up the team when the going gets tough. At Coventry on sat the only person who could be heard on the picth was Ollson. AT any level of football you need to be able to communicate! Any why persist with trying to accommodate everyone in the team. Its obvious for all to see that Koren’s best position is in the centre and he is wasted on the wing. Some of the managers tactics this season have been strange to say the least.
Team for Sat
Carson
Mattock
Ollson
Meite
Jara
Thomas
Brunt
Koren
Mulumbu
Bednar
Cox
Feel Zuvi and Dorrans need a rest – appreciate your thoughts!
