Army heroes mixed with footballing stars at the launch of a special charity appeal.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy along with players Kevin Doyle and Andrew Surman all gave their backing to Help for Heroes campaign launched at the club’s training ground yesterday.
Money raised at the Wolves v Arsenal game at Molineux on November 7 will go to the charity through a bucket collection.
Mick said: “I am delighted to do everything I can for these guys, they are the real heroes.”
The Territorial Army’s 4th Battalion of the Mercian Regiment and the RAF careers office are sponsoring the match but the manager added: “It should be us sponsoring them.”
Wolves have issued free tickets to armed forces staff and and plan to allocate a game before the end of the season for serving soldiers to get discount tickets.
Captain Shane Green, the Mercian Regiment Adjutant said: “People should look out for my soldiers in uniform, they will be collecting on the day as well as the band of the Mercian regiment.
“I know that 29,000 Wolves fans at the ground will proudly support us and that means so much to the soldiers.”
The campaign was launched with a tank at the Compton training group.
And Mick said: “The tank is impressive but I am not sure that would help us in defence against Arsenal, it wouldn’t be quick enough so we will rely on our own resources.”
