Albion summer signing Simon Cox has pledged not to rock the boat at the Hawthorns and wait for a chance in the first team.
The £1.5million marksman pressed his claims for a Championship chance with a goalscoring display in the reserves’ 2-2 draw at Port Vale last night.
But Cox insists he will wait patiently for his opportunity, despite admitting his frustration at a lack of first team action.
He said: “I don’t like not playing, but when you step up that extra level with a bigger squad and better players you are always going to have to wait your turn, so I am happy to do so.
“The manager picks the team every week, he sees what people in front of me are doing and what I do every day in training. If he thinks that the people in front of me are the best people for the job he will pick them.
“I’m not going to bang on his door every time I don’t play because I am not happy. He should know I am not happy.
“Can I make a difference? If I’m given a chance. If not I am happy to wait my turn. The manager is the one who picks the team and I can’t do anything about that.”
Cox arrived at the Hawthorns fresh from a 32-goal season for Swindon and intent on carrying his League One form into the Championship.
He said: “I am still a confident boy every day in training and around the training ground. But you want to play every time. Every time there is game you want to be out on the pitch, showing what you can do.
“I get confidence from just playing and if I can get a run of games I will be happy and that will be good. I have settled in quite well, I have a bit of fun and laughter around the training ground so I am enjoying it.
“But to cap it all off I would like to start playing. But that’s not down to me, it’s down to the manager.
“I am as fit as I can be. I just have to get as much fitness out of reserve games and out of training games as I can – that’s the way I am going to approach every day. I have to apply myself properly.”

Give this lad a chance!!! What he needs is a promise of starting at least 6-8 games from the start! then if he doesnt produce the goods then he can have no argument at being dropped. Although he has come from a lower division, you dont score 32 goals by fluke! If i was a striker in his position and i was told i was going to start the next 8 games from the start barring injury then i would be buzzing at the prospect! come on RDM, give him his chance over luke moore!

Sounds like a breath of fresh air, good attitde. But how long will it last?,He’s going to get hacked off at some stage.Give him a fair go,same as L.M has had.Not just one game and dropped if he doesn’t score, let him have a run of maybe 6/7 games and see what he can do.We were all a little bit excited whan we signd him,32 goals was it for Swindon? he sounds like he has some natural talent as a goal scorer.Reminds me a little bit of the legend K.P.Get him in and lets see what he can do or can’t do.It’s a big step up from what he’s used to,but they all have to start some where.

I’m impressed with Simon’s attitude. He must be feeling frustrated beyond belief but he’s not bleating to his manager and causing him extra grief. I’m not sure our coaches know how to get the best from the lad but I hope they are trying to figure it out. Here’s a radical suggestion – ask Simon!

Nice sentiments, but how long will that last.He will get browned off, watching other team mates getting regular starts and not doing the business.Give him a fair go,maybe 6/7 games, and don’t drop him if he doesn’t score in his first start.Let him find his feet with a fair run.We were all a bit excited when we signed him, what was it?32 goals for Swindon,he must have some natural talent to score that many, even in that league.Reminds me of the legend K.P………..Give him a go.

Never mind Cox its us fans that have to pay to watch this garbish, 1 win v an extremely poor Reading side who have lost 5 on the bounce is not good enough. Swansea, Palace and Banrsley defeats with a couple of draws at Cov and Preston not good enough. Its ok to say give him a chance but the fans turned on 17 year old Wood a few weeks back, what makes you think they’ll give Cox a chance? Luke Moore needs to go… but who will have him?

Get Cox in the starting line immediately and get rid of the lack lustre Moore!!!

Certainly we can do no worse than at present where we couldn’t score in a house of ill repute! I’d put him on for the first 60 minutes and tell him to run himself ragged. He’d soon relax then and we could see what we have got. He deserves a go anyway in my view.

You baggies do need to live in the real world. When wolves had a rough patch last season there were excuses but it was us paying to watch it, not being paid by the club to under-perform. I think you will end up in the play-offs this season I cant see you finishing below 6th but Cardiff & QPR atre two clubs to watch.

Totally agree with other comments it would appear were asking him to play in a different way than at Swindon but goals win matches RDM should play
to Cox strengths Hopefully he will get a look in v Watford. Like everyone we expect to win
every game but because of our status opponents
are out to get our scalp. JT looked unstopable
a few games ago if in the mood he can be our
match winner.

Get rid of Luke Nomoore, goals from this boy are as rare as an intelligent dingle!!

Nice sentiment and I agree, ‘give him a fair go, maybe 6/7 games, don’t drop him if he doesn’t score in his first start.’But how many on here will be straight on his back if he doesn’t.

Loffin’ Fowl has had to be incognito recently as Gaudy Brown needed some expert help with the economy and his was the only place left to go. Yes, it IS that bad! What on earth does ‘being paid by the club to underperform’ mean in the context it was used me old mate Loffin’? Did Wolves PAY YOU to watch them last season? I could go for that. You’re the money-man matey, how’s it done?

This is a shambles, what is it with our fans and falling out with the players and only taking 4k to Cov is poor considering the travelling distance the Dingles took 6,500 last season and the season before. Olsson will leave along with Dorrans they will both sign for Celtic and then he will come in for Morrison too but luckily I cant see him going for Miller as he’s too inconsistant. We have to try and get into the top 6 this season because if we dont go up inevitable cut-backs will have to be paid as we will only have 1 more year of parachute payments.
