Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has revealed his transfer ambitions after admitting he has missed out on some top targets.
The Saddlers boss eyed former Wigan winger Alan Mahon, defender Ian Breckin and striker Jason Price – who were all free agents – but lost out to Tranmere, Chesterfield and Millwall.
Fans are frustrated at the lack of transfer activity, with former Northampton skipper Mark Hughes the only signing.
Now Hutchings has released new names to show the club’s ambition to sign top players.
He said: “We were interested in all these sort of players, which shows the ambition of this football club and we are still trying to get players in.
“We were in the hunt for these players. We’re talking to players, we’ve got people in who we are looking at.
“We’ve got Hughesy in but it doesn’t always happen overnight.”

hahah, I feel for you Hutch. You’ve had to sink to saying ‘look what we could have signed’ in an attempt to appease fans.
Thing is, it’s all well and good saying ‘we missed out’, how about the reason why we missed out?
Keep your head up Hutch

why do we want to know who we missed out on, bottom line is they arent at Walsall! We could be after Steven Gerrard and John Terry, but the same reason they would’nt come is the same reason these targets havent come, below average wages, 1 year contracts, and a chairman who has no ambition to push this club forward. I hope for all our sakes that he has some names on his wishlist still, I am losing my patience, this team needs to gel!

Oh my good god! Why have you felt the need to come out and shout out about maybe signings Hutch? Or as Bonser told you to do it to try and sell a couple of hundred more season tickets?
Either way the three names that have been said there are nothing special anyway! Price was always going to go to Millwall after his loan spell there last season , Breckin goes to a team in the league 2 cause he wanted to move closer to his home in Rotherham. So to be fair hardly realistic targets anyway Hutch sorry to say and nothing to make me want to be happy about! Maybe you should stick to making phone calls to players/agents instead of keep giving pointless interviews to the press then maybe something will happen over night

Apparently, we were also in for Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema but narrowly missed out to some Spanish club who offered them more than a one year deal…

Would you want to sign for a club who are supported by a bunch of moaners. I bet half the people who comment on here have never been to a match.
Get behind the manager and the team – for a change – or why don’t you go and support Luton or Rotherham!

Well said Jonny Dukes no matter what is said by the club some people will never be satisfied it is they who are pulling this club apart

Huchins will put a good side together, then at the end of the season they will all leave again, a team need 2-3 years to really gel and get the best out of them, Top half finish possible.

johnny Dukes, I think we have a valid point for moaning at some of the issues we are seeing arising this pre season. I have had a season ticket for the last 6 seasons, and attended many away games. This year i have been living in the south of france with work, yet still supported my club by buying a season ticket.

Come on any manager would take a look at freed players that are decent but 12 month contracts wont attract them.

They moan when the club says nothing they moan when the club says something.
Its in the blood.
When I went to my first match a bloke next to me said “Colin Taylors no footballer”.
I looked at him in astonishment as he had just scored a great goal….

danksy9. You say ‘Either way the three names that have been said there are nothing special anyway!’ Who do you expect us to sign?

Walsall are a small time club who`s only ambition is purely to exsist and not make a loss. I`d be very, very worried if i was a Walsall supporter. Not long until the season starts and a threadbear squad. Relegation for you lot i`m afraid this season.

Hutch dont tell us about the players you havent signed were not interested tell us who you have signed its more interesting.

IF, we had won 35 games last season we would have been promoted as champions…. you cannot say we are not ambitious?
