Blues are facing a fight with Celtic to land Portugal under-21 midfielder Amaury Bischoff.
The 22-year-old, who struggled with injuries last season, is a free agent after being told his contract with Arsenal is not being renewed.
Celtic boss Tony Mowbray is keen to build a youthful side but McLeish is believed to also be keeping tabs on the former Gunner.
Meanwhile, Blues, who are moving closer to wrapping up the permanent signing of Lee Bowyer after his successful loan last season, have again today been linked with Middlesbrough striker Jeremie Aliadiere.
The former Arsenal forward is set to leave after Boro’s relegation to the Championship but it is thought Boro will be seeking a fee of around £3.5m.
