Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has greeted Roberto Di Matteo’s first day in office by ring-fencing his top stars from a summer exit.
Peace acknowledged the management change at the Hawthorns had triggered fresh speculation about his club’s leading players, as new head coach Roberto Di Matteo sets about putting his stamp on the team.
The Baggies continue to play hard ball even with players outside the ‘A’ list category, rejecting the now confirmed improved bid of £750,000 from Bolton for full back Paul Robinson, who is angling for a move.
But Peace has warned any other vultures circling the Hawthorns not to waste their time – citing the no-go zone erected around Jonathan Greening as the prime example of Albion’s stance this summer.
The Baggies have opened talks with Greening about a new deal and remain confident they can persuade their influential skipper to commit himself to the Di Matteo era now unfolding.
Fulham are rumoured to be leading a £2m chase for the midfielder.
Peace said: “There is a lot of stuff swirling around out there about Jonno at the moment.
“But we do not have to do business and we won’t be doing business with our best players.
“We are cash-neutral so we can afford to buy before we sell but we won’t sell our crown jewels.
“Our goal is to try and stay in Premier League over time.”

Bloody hope not too what sort of a start would it be RDM if we lost our best players.

Quite right too. Keep the nucleus of the squad together, sign up molumbu & cox plus a centre half to partner Jonas, get Miller fit, get Moore fit and hungry again so he can partner Cox and we`re in for a good season.
Can`t believe how optimistic I am with a rookie manager in charge but just think RDM is going to deliver big time.

What happened to us signing Leigh Griffiths from Scottish club Livingston.
He is supposed to be a fantastic prospect.
I hope we don’t lose him.
Very disappointed to read that Menseguez is not keen to move to The Albion.
He looked real class and would do well for us.
Hope RDM tries to get him to change his mind.

Agree with you Dekker, I think RDM will bring a fresh exciting edge to us much like ToMo did but with more grit. We need to stiffen up and if the Key players stay and I will include Cech in that along with Molumbu, Cox and a couple of others we could be set for another good season. Also I think so important that Appleton has stayed on. I just hope pre season gets them fit and hungry for the fight again. A&T Baggies Massive will be in full support !!

I would like to see Paul Robinson leave. This is the second time he has said that he wants to go. I can’t see the fans getting behind him again, especially if his quoted comments were true.

Everyone is making the right noises. JP has kept the club in good financial nick as per leaving us room to maneuver, the manager is talking the talk about the improtance of winning games and his willingness to be ‘nasty and horrible’ if required. We’re signing a defensive midfielder in Mulumbu and offloading the useless Paul Robinson to keep Cech happy. Its certainly looking like a another top notch summer and a 2nd title in three years, result!

Notice how Peace says we can buy before we sell, while a short time ago we had to sell in order to buy, looks like he may have been holding open the exit door for our ex manager while pocketing a cool 2 mil in the process!
I’d be interested to see the actual size of our squad this season, JP, is a very clever man!
I say that counting the 2mil as already accounted for- compensation and towards Cox.

Yes JP the players would rather stay in this league than move to a Prem team on twice the wages at least..
Bet they can’t wait for the Doncaster games etc…

Like everyone else I am feeling confident with the new season approaching.Don’t forget your sun glasses against Newcastle, just in case you haven’t seen their new away kit!

I always believe that once a player asks to leave why keep them.
I agree hold on to your stars but in football today it’s not about wether you need to sell get rid of players that obviously have not got the club at heart.I hope RDM does a good job and you get promoted next season(and we stay up). it would be great to have a Black Country Derby in the Prem.
All the best for next season.

11- Pete Tong
So what do you want him to say or do? He says we want to keep Greening and vows to, you post some sarcastic nonsense remark about us playing Doncaster. He sells him, you’d probably be the first on here complaining we were a selling club with no ambition and JP must go. That is of course, unless you’re another wolfie in disguise? I’d stick to spinning your tunes.
14- Cheers Michael, a Premiership Black Country derby would be great, as long as we won! I think we will sell Robinson, but not before a few rounds of negotiating from JP first. Don’t be surprised to see him go to Bolton for somewhere between 750k-£1m in the next month.

Yes a little dissapointed that Menseguez will probably not be coming he could have developed into a decent player in time. Greening is pure speculation so not even concerned as for Robbo well I am a fan of robbo but its about time for him to go . We “took” him back once but not again it’s time for him to move on.

Looks like folks are beginning to appreciate a straight-down-the-line Chairman. Anyone who has become a millionaire has to be a hard bu**er when negotiating terms, but we’ve not seen him cheat anyone either. He’ll get the proper price for Robbo in the end. I just hope Robbo keeps his mouth shut when he goes so he gains his credibility back, or some of it. Disappointed in Mesenguez not signing. Maybe hoping a Prem club will come for him but did he show enough to swing it? He’s young enough to have signed for us and show what a good player he could be.

What is it with Fulham..?..Aint they got a scouting system set up at that club yet ?..seems when they want to buy players their vultures circle around our club…Kamara and Gera…and now a speculated pultry 2 million for Jono…what cloud are they on ?…triple it and even then we’ll tell em where to sling their hook…!!!…they can have Robbo if they want him though…..he’s a liability and should be sold ASAP…why does he think he’s a prem player..?…the points he cost us last season was nobodys buisiness….lets give Merek the nod now…we wont miss Robbo at all…….

i think RDM will see robbo for what he is,and allow him to leave, mind he faled a medical last time and now with his comments i feel jp now feels he bit the hand that fed him,and said its time for him to leave.robbo aint the kind to have around the club the badge kissin is false, false loyalty will suit mowbray so sell robbo to celtic.we dont need msenguez decent striker center forward will do,id like £1.5m for robbo to bolton and ricardo gardner comein our way
Report abuse
What happened to the squad needing to be trimmed to a 20 man squad?? Does that rule not apply to RDM. Was JP just doin that to spite Mowbray at the time. Makes u wonder?
Lookin forward 2 seein what players Di Matteo brings in and what names he can get us. If its not quite goin well in a game, he can always come on as sub and get us a goal :)
