Villa have dismissed speculation they are lining up a move for Wigan defender Titus Bramble – as their midfield starlet Barry Bannan emerged as a target for the Latics.
Reports claim the claret and blues are prepared to pay £3.5million plus Bannan to land Bramble, but Villa sources have confirmed to the Express & Star that the former Newcastle defender is not one of the candidates being considered to replace retired skipper Martin Laursen.
Bur Bannan is being eyed by Wigan, with new boss Roberto Martinez a long-term admirer of the 19-year-old Scot.
It is understood Bannan is on the Spaniard’s list of summer transfer targets, with the former Swansea chief watching the Scotland Under-21 star’s contract situation closely.
A key figure in Villa’s Premier Reserve League title success, has just one year remaining on his existing Villa Park deal.
The diminutive 19-year-old is still waiting to be offered a new contract, but it is believed both parties are keen to extend his stay.
Derby are also keen to bring the youngster back to Pride Park, after a successful loan spell at the Championship club at the end of last season.
Bannan is regarded as one Villa’s top prospects and made his debut against Hamburg in the UEFA Cup last season.

“But club sources have confirmed Bramble is not on manager Martin O’Neill’s transfer hit-list.”
That’s because he doesn’t have a hit-list!!

I totally agree with garry’s comments.
The thing is O’neill has done a good job and he probably is the best man out there for the job. However his transfer policy angers me, what is up with him? He has no urgency whatsoever.
But I’m sure as we are all so fickle it wont be too long before we are singing his praises.
