Wolves today swooped to complete the signing of striker Kevin Doyle from Reading.

The 25-year-old Irishman is understood to have chosen to move to Molineux despite interest from the likes of Everton, Fulham, Villa, Sunderland and Bolton.
The Irish international is a proven goalscorer at Premier League level having hit the net 13 times for the Royals in their first season in the big time.
“I’m delighted to get the move sorted and can’t wait to get going,” he said.
“I spoke to the manager and chief executive over a week ago and came to the training ground to see everything.
“I’ve been making my mind up over the last couple of weeks and am just really pleased the decision has been made.
“The facilities here are top class and it’s great to be going back into the Premier League again.
“I’m sad to be leaving Reading because I had some great years there but I’m going with their blessing as well which is nice.”

Excellent signing, should do well with SEB. Just goes to show that the club are doing things behind closed doors and we should be patient. signing players is never easy. Well done M M M

Great news and now hopefully the rest will follow and Ye of little faith will have a huge helping of Humble pie to chow down on!!! With a side order of stop moaning of F##k off! If people think between 5-6 Mil is to much then I’m sorry you have no idea, very easy to look at last seasons haul but Injuries and a loss of form…which happens to the best, were to blame. We couldn’t handle him (to be fair defensively we weren’t great throughout the season) I play football with a 1st team coach at Reading, I won’t give his name as it wouldn’t be fair. But he told me about this possible deal sometime ago and rates him very highly and says he will only get better, easily the work rate of Keogh but much more quality. (will Hunt follow?) Could still do with another forward possibly a loan deal. This Gai from Shaktar would be a real coup, as would the Croat centre midfielder, although I would like a proven Prem centre mid in there. Also Mancienne, this Zubar, why not look at Lucas Neil he’s free so we could afford the wages, the Lad Mills from Donnie is a great prospect too. Still feel we also need a top level left back. Pheeew!!!
Doyle and Ebanks Blake could be a very strong partnership, two different types of player. I bet Pearce wishes he took Ebanks Blake last night with rubbish like Frazier Campbell and although Agbonlahor is quality he is not a natural finisher like Blakey.
Next signing will be Michael Mancienne after he returns this week.
Brilliant! This is a big signing as far as I’m concerned and we have beat teams who are likely to be our rivals next season to him. Great bit of business from the Wolves.
Awesome signing and really shows that we’re going for it this season. Couple more quality signings like this and my early bird season ticket never felt so cheap! Well done M,M&M . Come on me babbies!
What a signing, glad its all sorted now. £6million is quite a staggering amount then again at least we’re spending the cash and he fits in to both categories; young and hungry, and, experienced in the premier league.
Doyle + SEB gonna show us something.
only 45 days till west ham at home, actually cannot wait.
back in the big time !!
SOUTHBANK !!
seb and doyle r comin to get ya prem
Report abuse
I would hardly call 13 goals as a proven goalscorer. This is a stupid amount of money to be paying for a player like Doyle.
Very very concerned for our season ahead.
very good news – and one in the eye for those on here who have doubted that Wolves as a club and the management team in paticular were not able to compete with established Premier League clubs for players signatures. very easy to speculate one way or the other – but as this signing shows these things can take time to complete and that doesn’t always mean we have lost out on a player.
now to strengthen the defence!
Wow
A statement of intent!
mixed feelings on this but the lad has quality.
Im not sure £6m is a good price but well done boys!
We beat off good options!
Well at least the money spent this morning should shut up all the b******g about no intent or Mr Morgan not opening the cheque book.
As for Doyle that pairing with SEB is an exciting prospect. I also like the look of the Croatian if we get him….just hope he gets on ok with the Serb
Report abuse
Excellent news !! Now let’s strengthen the defence (hopefully with Mancienne !!) and midfield a little more and we’re sorted !! Onwards and upwards. The future is definitely Gold & Black !!
Also please note the fee is undisclosed so don’t bitch about the price, it’s likely to be 4-5 Mil with add ons if we stay up etc… So a reasonable fee and if we stay up and pay the extra well worth it I think!!
wwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!
now go and sign Nolan, another centre half and a winger to put pressure on jarvis and kightly and we are good to go !!!!!!
Fantastic signing. Just the dose needed for us.
Now for Mancienne and perhaps a class act player in the mould of Scholes ;).
What a surprise – record signing and it is an Irishman!! Although he has never played for Sunderland…
Lets hope this signing pays off and he isn’t like Kitson at Stoke.
Now lets get rid of Collins and Ward.
Cracking, think we have a real chance of staying up,Mick and the board seem to be doing a decent job with more decent names in the pipeline, we don’t seem to be just throwing the chq book about like the blouses who seem to want to buy anyone thats availabe. I think we might surprise a few people next season, between them SEB + Doyle will get 24 – 29 goals throw in 20 from the rest of the boys and we might even have mid table finish.
Well done Wolves.
It’s news like this that makes me want to move back to the Midlands.
Hopefully I will get to see the best beat the best!
Glory glory Wolverhampton…..and the Wolves go marching on on on!
At least we have signed someone!
Not going to put the lad down, nor praise him, will wait until he actually plays along SEB and see how it goes, could be brilliant, could be stupid!
At least it shows we are willing to pay large(large for us) sums of money for players.
Keep it up, another 4 players and ill be happy!
3pts against west ham, top of the league!
great signing get mancienne now and another centre half this croat midfielder maybe but id ratha have bit of prem experience in ther but you never know. like i have said all summer lets be patient and we will get the right deals
Report abuse
How can people be concerned about this signing.
He scores 13 in the frist season in top flight then 6 in the second. With Doyle we have the experience up top with another striker In SEB which i have no doubt he will score just as many.
Just need to tighten the defence with Mancienne and one more strong quick defender.
Keep The Faith !
We are staying up !
Dead chuffed on this one! Hopefully this will send a message to others to join. Hannemahn is a very astute one as well.
In a world cup year, there’s so many incentives for players at Wolves to play hard all season e.g. Doyle, Foley ROI, Milijas Serbia plus a few wannabees including SEB and Kites.
Never been a big fan of MM but must admit he seems to have a decent reputation and is able to draw players into the club…well done..!
Undoubted quality – looked prem class when Reading whooped us at molineux this season. lets hope him and SEB can link up but at least they can train for a whole month to get it right. Forget the fee – its called “going rate”. To survive in prem you need to score goals – just ask West Brom, and whoever posted earlier that 13 from 28 in prem is not great – you are a numpty. Really pleased.
Great signing
Didn’t think he was coming, so well done Moxey for closing the deal.
The 3 peices of biz we have done up to yet have been superb, 3 or 4 more & we will really be ready to compete in the big league.
Wolvesmod are you happy or would you have preferred Samual Eto’o??
KTF
Wolves forever
Report abuse
A great statement of intent and a player i do rate. The only down side could be the amount of money spent, £6million im guessing is a fair chunk of your transfer budget and you would want his form to improve from last season. It also alerts other clubs that Wolves are prepared to pay this kind of fee. But i would like to re iterate i do rate Kevin Doyle, seen him play a number of times and he definately has the ability to play Premier League football. Just need to hope he hits the ground running like his first season for Reading in the Prem, then the the money looks well spent, however if his form continues from the latter end of last season £6million can look like a waste.
The fact is these are the type of signings that either keep you up or send you down, like us last season and the £5million we spent on Borja Valero, for that much money you need them to have a big impact on your season, i hope yours does better than ours!!!
Just a thought for everyone, HOW MUCH IS SEB WORTH? Realistically £12 – 14 million – then if he has a good season in prem???????
Great News!!
Just what we all wanted to see
There is a rumour that we have agreed a fee of £1.5M for Surman from Southampton??
Lets hope they have all got their Australian visas sorted as the pre-season tour commences next week
How amazing is it that one quality siging can lift morale!!!
Come on Wanderers!!!
reading must be laughing all the way to the bank, hes the same type of player as SEB im not happy with this signing.
BRILLIANT NEWS….. Doyle & Ebanks up front, alot of goals there!
Its all gone quiet over in BobWolf’s and WolvesMod house’s. :-)
Excellent signing. Just hope SEB or Kevin don’t get injured. Still think we are short of another good striker.
Now how about getting Duff on the wing. We need to strengthen the defence as well.
Basically we still need additional quality players in a few positions around the park!!!
haha…where are all the doom and gloom merchants and whingers…lol
Report abuse
Number 8 look at this table of top scorers last year in the prem and have a look at what company Doyle would be keeping with 13 goals. You are a tool!!!
Rank Scorer Club Goals[26]
1 Nicolas Anelka Chelsea 19
2 Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United 18
3 Steven Gerrard Liverpool 16
4 Robinho Manchester City 14
Fernando Torres Liverpool 14
6 Darren Bent Tottenham Hotspur 12
Kevin Davies Bolton Wanderers 12
Dirk Kuyt Liverpool 12
Frank Lampard Chelsea 12
Wayne Rooney Manchester United 12

exellent signing top class striker and is proven in the prem i hope him and ebanks do well for us but could do with bringing another striker in incase SEB or doyle gets injured were left with nuffin then ? but well done for getting this signing and he was linked to a lot of teams so glad we got his signiture :)

28…albion fan, ignore the comments.
nice that we have the head lines on Sky Sports news as well. pleased i’m not at work til later for a change to follow this.as earlier posts say, he caused us so many
problems last season and with the work ethic on top I’m sure he will fit in well.
great signing i think this finally shows our intent to compete at this level.no 8 get real 13 goals in the prem is a great return for a striker playing in a average team
Report abuse
I really didnt think we would get him,so this is great news as far as I am concerned. It proves this time the club are serious about staying in the Premiership.Cant wait for the season to start!
This looks a mouth watering partnership with Doyle partnering SEB in the final third. Tastey and finger licking good I’d say.
5 quality strikers vying for 2 places. Complete
2 inside left and 2 inside right in midfield. Complete
Left back and right department. complete
Goalkeeping department. Complete
My only question marks now are over 2 quality wingers to push Kights and Jarvo, plus 2 quality centre halves. In my opinion, squad then complete
ps. I would like to re-iterate this is a fantastic signing. Well done Jez Moxey you do not get the accolades you deserve
Report abuse
“Sack Moxey & McCarthy ! He’ll blow promtion, I tell you. Get Paul Ince in”
McCarthy gains promotion.
“What going on Moxey and McCarthy ? We’ve no ambition, where are all the signings, we were lied to, we deserve better”
Moxey and McCarthy break club transfer record for player wanted by numerous prem outfits.
Can we please sit back and enjoy the ride now.
How many times does the club have to prove the same old doubters wrong ?

Bid around 1.5 for Jerko Leto (dodge name but good player)just accepted, it’s all going to happen in next 10-14 days.
We are Premier League!!!
Glad to see that movement is taking place in the transfer market.Good statement of intent from the hierarchy. With the Australian tour coming up shortly it will be nice to see Doyle and any other potential signings getting to know oneanother in advance of the season starting and hopefully we will hit the ground up and running.I have been critical of JM in the past however credit where credits due a big WellDone.

8.
2006/7 prem Ronaldo 17 goals Doyle 13 goals. Ronaldo £80 mill Doyle £6 mill. Ronaldo £4.8 mill a goal, Doyle under half mill a goal. Very good buy if you just do the math. Maybe 2 years on now but still best comparison.

Great Signing!!!
Just proves that MMM – Morgan, Moxey and Mccarthy are not resting on their laurels, and learning from previous mistakes.
Patience you negative Wolves Fans , Patience!!!
It Quality not Quantity, lets make sure we have the right ones.
Hopefully Mancienne will be next by the end od the week.
2 – eating humble pie here.
Need some big defensive signings now
– Come on you Wolves
Report abuse
I think that this is an astute signing.
Thw wolves board are going about their business quietly and efficiently.
MM is getting in a certain type of player (serbs/croats/UK/Eire) as he knows what to expect.
No South Americans etc as Blues are doing and at great expense.
It was good to see the Reading CEO say it was a pleasure to deal with Mr Moxey. It is time now to stop complaining about the board and get behind the club. If we don’t stay up ( which I think we will) it wont be for the want of trying unlike our last campaign!!
Villa interested as well?
He needs 15 goals next season – all in matches when we win 1 – 0 and then some of you might think he’s an ok signing.
Ideal player for Kites and them all really.
Exciting innit?
At last!!! Someone who really wants to PLAY FOR US!! The 6mil is the going rate for this class of player we have to pay it OR GO DOWN!!Mancienne is a must have [or someone of that class].Its gonna take a few more 6 mils or so for us to stay in the promised land.
With Kevin Doyle signed.. Andrew Surman signing and Jerko Leko maybe signing.. is it me or are we putting together the best looking team in the prem? Milijas is the only exception, but you have to sign someone who can play football??
bet doyle dont score more than 5 goals.
All those Moxey knockers read on, from Reading Chronicle
Lastly, it is important from my own point of view to say that Wolves, and in particular their chief executive Jez Moxey, have been a pleasure to deal with and very straightforward. They have got themselves a top player.”
Maybe a little over the top in terms of fee paid but that’s the position we’re in – as I said last week, we have a number of players worth considerably more than we had paid for them, now was the time to pay a little over the odds so some players better than the ones we had already. Excellent stuff.
Heard a rumour that it nearly fell through until we changed the deal from £7m plus Collins to £6m cash.
Great signing !
Not just because of who the player is, but because he chose Wolves over established Prem clubs.
I thought the deal had gone, but it just shows that we should all just let the 3 M’s get on with their job – they are very good at it.
This is a great time to be a Wolves fan, just sit back and enjoy it.
43. Ha ha, you’re not the only one I bet, I hope it tastes good, I’m sure you don’t mind if we come up with some more signings like that. And can everyone stop banging on about 6 MIL A) it’s not that much B) we can afford that and then some and C) as I said we have just handed over 6 MIL in a briefcase to them, the outlay will be some up front some over time and some dependant upon us sytaying up which will pay for itself!!!! I will stick my neck out and guess we will outlay 18-20 mil on new players
Report abuse
Great signing- shows a will to be at the Asda Dome- window not opened yet this is a great signing and shows we have committment to stay up-
Yes No 2 I agree but calm down mate I think there is more to come. Rate Nolan –Go get him- Yes but who- knows with this signing any thing can happen
Lots of Hype and stories in the press about what is happening in the transfer Market–I think this will be only the start–Crazey Dave
Report abuse
I think this is a terrific signing and one that is actually very cost effective. If we stay up because of his goals he will be worth every penny – if the worst comes to the worst and we don’t quite make it we would get the majority of our money back on his sale. Well done Moxey and Mick (and steve as well!). Steve may not be the richest owner in the world but it seems to me that he really cares for our club rather than seeign it as a play thing.
come on Wolves
Report abuse
Thought we’ve been a well run club for some time now. This confirms it. A good bit of business carried out in a businesslike way

2007/08… Doyle 6 goals and Ronaldo 31 goals
2008/09… Doyle 18 goals in Championship and Ronaldo 18 goals in Premier League. That is a more recent comparison. As a baggies fan I don’t really care what Wolves do with their money but £6.5 million is a lot of money for a striker who hasn’t done much in the last couple of seasons. I’m sure he’ll be better than Luke Moore and Borja Valero have been for us though.

NAME & SHAME Jun 25th
I am enclosing a selection of the comments made on 25th June from numerous armchair experts who were certain that we would not sign Doyle.
Are there any lessons to be learned?
Comments like these have held the team back & prevented us from gaining promotion earlier.
Keep the faith as well as keeping mum!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we have lost out on Doyle now! I hate to say it as i think he would have been great down the molinuex! …………. but when Fulham come calling who are in the Europa League next year we have very little chance!

I very much doubt whether we will get him.

…… we have missed the boat with Doyle because lets face it he would have signed by now and apparently he was shown around the training ground over the weekend gone!!
Mick & Jez, I have this feeling that we are penney pinching to much, I agree we shouldn’t be spending madly but we need to start getting the players in sooner rather than later. ……… will h\ave to pay big bucks for him so get the business done now and you may save the money

Also I believe Doyle and Hunt of Reading will sign for Sunderland simply because of the Quinn factor

Looks like another player is going to slip through our fingers as Moxey is too tight. Morgan got this club for nothing and doesn’t want to spend.
Huge hike in season ticket prices and what do we get in return – a 37 year old liability and a drink driver who won’t get a work permit!!

At £2m I`d say yes add him to the squad. At £6m I fear thats a quarter of our budget gone on a guy who scored 2 in the last 20 games in the Championship and who got 7 goals total in his last prem campaign.
Don`t get me wrong I`ll be cheering him on, but `FANTASTIC` business this is not.

Thought Old Broken Nose might make him a blackcat so well done MMM to prove all the doubters wrong.
