Wolves hope for Mancienne closure

mancienne1.jpegWolves hope their long-term pursuit of Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne will become clearer this week.

The England under-21 international remains a target of boss Mick McCarthy and the club have been linked with a fresh approach.

But they haven’t been able to take their interest further, because of the lack of a manager at Stamford Bridge.

That should become clearer when Carlo Ancelotti formally arrives to take charge of the club this week.

The Italian will then assess his squad and decide whether to keep the 21-year-old, allow him out on loan for a season or sell him.

As Wolves were linked again with Mancienne, the club insists reports suggesting Marseilles centre-back Ronald Zubar has arrived for a medical tare wide of the mark, although he is a player they are monitoring.

Mancienne’s England under-21s team-mate Richard Stearman was one of two players who weren’t at Compton, as the squad return for the start of pre-season training.

New signing Nenad Milijas won’t be linking up with his new team-mates until the squad leave for their two-match tour of Australia on Saturday.

Stearman is with the under-21 squad who play their European Championship final against Germany.

Ebanks-Blake, Michael Kightly and Chris Iwelumo were expected to be back in full training after ending last season with injuries.
