Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has rubbished suggestions the young Saddlers side are too young to challenge for promotion.
Boss Chris Hutchings is eager to snap up some experience to complement his youthful side and has spoken to veteran defender Ian Breckin about a switch to the Banks’s Stadium.
At 36-years-old, Ince is the oldest member of the squad but feels – despite being an inexperienced side – they can compete for promotion.
He said: “We’ve been in this division two years and it’s a learning process. We have a very young team, a very small team and we’ve been doing excellently.
“If they really put their foot forward, they can play big clubs and compete with Leicester and Peterborough.
“It’s not impossible, all they have to do is work hard and achieve their goals.”
Understudy Rene Gilmartin and Chris Palmer have also agreed to stay at the Banks’s Stadium, but Sofiene Zaaboub has yet to commit.
Netan Sansara and Manny Smith remain the only two who have signed new deals.
Ince, who has made 142 appearances since signing on a free transfer from Coventry in 2006, believes Smith will continue to build on his impressive form.
The goalkeeper said: “He’s made himself permanent fixture in the starting 11 and it’s good to see that.”

Boring!
How about some journalism, what is happening with JB, what are his plans regarding selling the club?
How much are we getting for Dann?
There are other subjects to report on, I know you’ve got to sell papers in Walsall but nothing is better than this, and I do mean in the negative sense!!!

Which player is going to come out next and say ‘The kids are alright’? Rhys, Netan now Clayton….I’m pretty bored of this now!

How about news of a few new signings – namely at least one striker (where is the annual Darren Byfield rumour?) – at this rate it looks like we should have kept Michael Ricketts, a central midfield playmaker, a decent right midfielder and possibly a left-winger if Zaaboub has departed. Re-signing palyers already at the Banks’s is a start but we want to see some decent new arrivals….and soon!

They wont sign players yet because they will have 2 pay em.

Now come on lads, you want new signings !! Thats what proffessional football clubs do, not the Jeff Bonser benevolent fund.
The club is really becoming a laughing stock and I just wander how long Messrs Hutchings and O’Connor will put up with the apparent lack of support from within.
Jeff, get the club sold, lets all move on.

why do we keep hearing …. Zaaboub still not ready to sign !! i thought all our players had a dead line to sign or leave ?? he was doing ok last season but i’m affraid we should stick to the dead lines and remove his option and look for a replacement !
