Marcus Hahnemann has became Wolves’ second summer signing and immediately declared his desire to become the club’s number one.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who was released by Reading at the end of last season, has signed an initial one-year deal.

Six-foot three Hahnemann, who was an ever-present in Reading’s two seasons in the Premier League between 2006-08, has set his sights on competing for a place with Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme after returning from his native United States.

He follows £2.6million Serbian international midfielder Nenad Milijas to Molineux.

The experienced custodian said: “It’s an excellent move for me. Wolves are a massive club and it’s another chance to play in the Premier League – that’s a huge draw for me.

“I know I have a real fight to be the number one and no promises have been made.

“I know I have to go in there, have a good pre-season and then see what happens.”

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey reveals Hahnemann turned down two other Premier League offers, because of the chance to establish himself as first choice at Molineux.

He said: “Marcus had two other offers in the Premier League but he wanted to come here, because Mick said ‘you’re a very good keeper and if you are the best keeper out of the three, you will play.’

“That’s the sort of competition we want in our goalkeeping department and right through the side.

“Mick wants competition for every spot but with injuries, we didn’t always have that in the goalkeeping department last season.

“After talking to Mick, Marcus wanted to join because he realises he has a genuine chance which he might not have got elsewhere.

“He’s a very good goalkeeper who will be challenging Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme directly for the number one spot.

“Regardless of who is playing, he will be a good mentor for our three goalkeepers, because he is of excellent character and has plenty of experience.”

Moxey feels the profile of the new signing fits what Wolves are looking for.

He said: “We have talked about Premier League experience, which is something Mick has identified in potential signings and we knew it would be difficult to get.

“With an excellent record at Reading, Marcus fits that criteria.

“He’s been playing at a very high level for seven years in this country and been a key part of Reading’s success in that period.

“Negotiations were smooth – he wanted to join and we wanted him. We thought this would be a good thing to do.”

Seattle-born Hahnemann leaves Reading after 276 league appearances over seven seasons.

excellent signing. the management obviously rate hennessey highly but obviously recognise that we need competition. He was superb during Reading’s time in the premiership and although is knocking on in years, is certainly not past it in goalkeeping terms. Also renound as a model proffesional so should be a good influence around the place. No transfer fee should also give us more money to spend on other areas of the team.

Reading fans will tell you he didn’t have a great season last year bit it’s still a good squad acquisition. One of Ikeme or Hennessey should ‘push on’ which gives us good coverage.

I don’t think anyone at Wolves wants to put pressure on Murray, that’s why he’s not mentioned. He won’t be fit pre Christmas and then MM will want to send him out on loan, as before, so I don’t think there’s anything sinister that Moxey isn’t telling us that we don’t already know. If he does make a contribution it will be later in the season and should be seen as a bonus.

So do we reckon that’s the imminent signing that Moxey was referring to the other day? Hope not – but think so unfortunately. Still, plenty of time left until the start of the season.

Agree it’s decent enough – need the competition and an experienced head should help with the inexperience of WH. He also has the added incentive of trying to force his way into the side to enhance his World Cup place – so certainly not just coming to make up the numbers or for a final pay day.

I see in the Reading local paper, he talks about the possibility of commuting on a daily basis rather than moving the family up. Hope that’s not the case as I can’t see how spending 4 hours or so a day in the car will be of much help.

Bit of a wilde card I no but I was wondering whether Ricardo Rocha would be worth taking a look at. He’s 30 yr old defender, just been released by tottenham. He was very highly rated at benfica and got into the portugese national squad. But it never quiet happened for him at tottenham and IMO wasn’t given a fair chance with all the defenders that tottenham have got. Has been in england for 3years so wouldn’t need to adapt to english life. and he would be a free transfer!

Excellent news. Good work a bit like Friedel at Villa. From the statement it looks like Murray is forgotten about. Surely it should be the best keeper out the FOUR? :(

On a fixture related note. Who thinks last years loyalty points should be carried on to this season???

I suggest this as it rewards the lucky fans that made games last year. Also it allows season ticket holders that attended half a dozen away games (1120 points) first refusal on big 4 away games. If the points are reset to 1000 for season ticket holders at start the season, new season ticket holders may gain tickets to these games and fans that attended last year miss out.

Surely this idea would be fair and right. New season ticket holders would still get a chance to tickets as its on a priority basis. Thoughts would be appreciated.

I think you’d have a point if we were playing a Big 4 Away game very early on, but we’re not. The first isn’t until 21st November (Chelsea).
So, unless we sell-out our first 6 Away games, there’s plenty of chance for fans to build up points. I can’t see us selling-out more than a couple of Wigan, Man City, Blackburn, Sunderland, Everton and Stoke. If we do, you’re right – a bit rough if you can’t get a ticket to earn the points to get a ticket…

“It’s a chance to play in the

A one year contract with an option for another year. Translates as:
Hahnemann — If you go down I’m off to another prem club.
Wolves — If we go down we don’t want his wages on the books in the championship.

I think the club are considering loyalty points, but ONLY with regard to Away Season Tickets.
I went to nearly half the away games last season ( mainly Saturday matches)and like you was concerned that I wouldn’t get chance of the ‘big’ away games, so I called in to the ticket office AND emailed the club.
Upshot is that I ( and anyone else) can apply for an AST and if it is oversubscribed, loyalty points will be taken into account from last season and allocated to those with the most loyalty points – similar to the way Home Season tickets went on sale to those with 100 and then 50 loyalty points.
Sorry it may not be what you want to hear, but most of the Prem clubs only cater for around 3000 away fans max, so demand for the big games will be high and the club are trying to generate more income from that demand.

63 – I understand your point regarding away season ticket (I think I would have enough points to gain one) but I cannot 100% say I will attend all the away games.
Thats is the reason I have not applied. The limit is 1500 away season tickets so that leave 1500 tickets on average. Is it fair that NEW season ticket holders this season have the same chance of these tickets because we all start with 1000 points.

55 – I would imagine that Man City, Everton and Stoke will sell out! I cannot make Wigan and Man City so that 2 games I have missed out on for points.

I just feel if old season ticket holders had first refusal on remaining tickets then new holder on any left after a point, this would be a fair method.

Quote on the Wolves website from Loyalty points FAQ.

    “HOW WILL THIS BENIFIT SUPPORTERS?”

“It is widely to be unfair that fans that regularly support their team at away fixtures have no greater priority for an important match at the end of a season than someone that has not bought an away ticket all season – this scheme will change that. When tickets go on sale for popular or cup fixtures supporters with the most loyalty points will be able to purchase tickets first. Therefore more tickets purchased means greater chance to attend important games!”

Surely then the supporters that attended games last year deserve the chance to have first refusal on away tickets.

I have the same problem, I don’t think I will be able to attend all away matches, but hopefully, as there are less mid-week than in the Championship, I should be able to see a higher percentage.
The problem, as I saw it is that it is not just the away season ticket holders that draw off the allocation before general sale, I think I am right in saying that official Wolves supporters clubs who regularly order away tickets will also get an allocation which means that there will be even less on general sale.
That is why I have applied for an AST even though I will lose £10 for any match I don’t attend – I know others will not be able to do that.

I see that a Belgrade newspaper is today reporting that Milijas was sentenced to a year in prison for causing an accident while driving drunk (the accident was December 2005 so it’s taken a while to go through the courts). The sentence is suspended for three years. Not sure what this means for the work permit appeal but certainly can’t help.

quite worrying that in the pictures of his career all the captions say “hanhemann being beaten by…” apart from of course in the picture he is playing against wolves. typical

    56. If tottenham met our valuation (probably 6mil) then I am sure the club would be willing to sell as alot of the supporters can see his flaws but this maybe down to his tender years. But really can you really comment on goalkeepers when you have ‘calamity’ carson and deano ‘i cant be bothered to play in my national team squad’ Kiley? Like in departments in our squad we have alot more talent then albion and half the age so shhhhhhhh!

We have to beat the sides around us – Blues, Burnley, Hull, Stoke, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Wigan. Albion won once away from home but I think we can get results away from home because of our speed on the counter-attack. Against the top 4 I know Micks style and that will be to get in their faces and unsettle them and have a real go, I love those games even if we lose lets give them a real battle and shake them up a bit. I think we need to send Vokes, Edwards, S Ward, Carl Ikeme on loan as they are not ready but could be in the future. Time to sell Dan Jones, Gleeson, Darren Ward, Jason Shackell. If we did get an tempting offer for Hennessey I would like to see us get Martin Fulop from Sunderland. Unfortunately there is no room for sentiment now lets get:

    Joe Ledley
    Tom Huddlestone
    Matt Derbyshire
    Lee Cattermole
    Shaun Davies
    Michael Mancienne

This will give us the best young squad in the premiership. No substitute for quality. I also think we should go to albion and bid 4 mil to get Olssonn and Morrison.

Martin Swain toid us in yesterday’s paper that we should expect to lose 5 or 6 on the trot and we should not complain because Abramovich is far richer than Steve Morgan. He made no mention of the wealth of the owners of Bolton,Wigan,Hull and Burnley. We must compete with these teams.Whether we do or not depends on how well we buy in the transfer market in the next few weeks. If we don’t spend some real money the fans have every right to complain.Let us not make it 4 relegations out of our last 4 seasons in top flight football.

Hahnemann is a good signing. he will provide the much needed experience wether he is first choice or reserve.
Heard the rumour of Nicky Butt? Wolves bound?
I just hope the purse strings are not too tight, i.e. not following up on the £5m plus players like Huddlestone, Hunt, Taylor? who knows, either way the lads will give ot their best!

Its ridiculous. Another goalkeeper whats the point? Wolves wheres this apparent big signings. 6 weeks to go till the premier starts and who have we signed? A serbian international midfielder who no one knows what he will b like and a 37 year old goalkeeper on a free transfer? Ridicoulous
