Visitors to Eastbourne will be the first in the country to ride Quadricycles as the four-wheeled bikes make their debut at the UK’s sunniest resort.
The iconic family-friendly bikes are normally seen in fancy carnival parades at US theme parks, but are now available to hire for the first time ever in a British seaside resort as Ride’n'Joy opens for business on Eastbourne’s seafront.
Families will be able to enjoy a day out with a difference taking in the resort’s promenade and Sovereign Harbour Marina on the fleet of seven quadricycles, seating between two to four adults and up to four children.
An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesman says: “Eastbourne is very proud to introduce the quadricycle hire and become the first resort in the country to offer this unique activity to visitors and residents.
“The bikes are a real sight and offer a fantastic way to explore Eastbourne’s beautiful seafront and enjoy a gentle cycle ride at the same time.
“With Eastbourne’s record sunshine hours, the resort is the perfect place to make the most of the outdoors and an hour on a quadricycle certainly makes an unforgettable day out for families and friends.”
The Ride’n'Joy quadricycles were launched on April 25 when bikers were able to take their maiden ride and pedal their way along the eastern promenade and into the south harbour, taking in a round trip of up to six miles.
Brought in from the USA, the bikes are unique to the UK and with over four million visitors coming to Eastbourne every year, the quadricycles will become a familiar sight in the town.
With those that hire the bikes also given padlocks and chains to lock them up during their ride, families will be able to stop off along the route and enjoy ice-creams, refreshments or a leisurely lunch alfresco at the harbour’s Waterfront.
Director of Ride’n'Joy, Pauline Allen says: “The bikes are a great way to take in some of the sights of Eastbourne while getting some gentle exercise. Even cycling at a leisurely pace can burn up to 400 calories an hour making Ride’n'Joy great for fitness as well as fun!”
The Quadricycles are available to hire from Ride’n'Joy based at Fisherman’s Green, between the sailing club and Spray Watersports on Eastbourne’s seafront.
