Old boy backing for Wolves

WOLVES V PRESTON 11 GD 10Stephen Elliott tipped Wolves to bounce back – but piled the promotion pressure on his old club after declaring their blip has given hope to the rest of the Championship.

Elliott’s two goals for Preston helped sink his old side 3-1 at Molineux on Saturday, 24 hours after Wolves’ lead had been cut from seven to four points by Reading’s 4-0 win over Watford.

He said: “The start they had helped them massively, because it gave them an edge on the other teams, but they’ve had a minor blip and everyone seems to be catching everyone up. It’s really tight now and everyone will feel they have a chance.

“But Wolves have a very good squad and strength in depth and they’ll probably bounce back, but it was a massive victory for us. I’m sure they will bounce back – they’ve got enough character in the squad.

“They’ve had a minor blip recently but they’ve got enough to be up there come the end of the season – as have a lot of other teams. But I’m not looking after Wolves – my ties are with Preston now and I’m just concentrating on that.”

Elliott admitted scoring twice against the Molineux fans who jeered him was “special.”

He said: “It’s always nice to score no matter who it’s against, but to do it against your old team is always special. You celebrate no matter who it’s against. I was just happy.”

Don’t understand why he was jeered anyway, it was always going to fire him up even more. Okay, so he wasn’t great when he played for Wolves but surely it’s a no-brainer that he would want to prove a point to us for letting him go - and he did just that with two goals against us. Hope it’s a lesson learned for the boo-boys anyway… but I doubt it!

I am really worried about the wolves’ performances over the last few games - this result has been coming for a while. We need some quality players in just to freshen things up. My other concern is that Wolves seem to want promotion on the cheap and wn’t pay for the quality that we need. That is very short sighted and could result us being in the Champtionship next season. If we don’t do it this year by fear is that we will never realise our dream of playing at the top level and will always be a good championship side.

It’s not the end of the world but equally, it’s not a “minor blip” as Elliott says.

This has been going to happen for some time..and we were at home and given a goal start!

All of us have been supporters of the “young and hungry” mantra but maybe we need the experience of a Lee Carsley or an Ingimarsson!!

Itshould be good for a football club when the manager, the Chief Executive and the Chairman all get on so well together but I’m wondering whether there is a need for slightly more “challenge” at the top. I felt that when the Korean manager farce surfaced last season that it was all a little too cosy. Mick deserves continued support because it’s still a great first half of the season but searching questions should be asked as to why the mediocre play has gone on for so long and what’s the strategy to change things!

I am trying not to comment on this and past performaces but I have to.
Elliott was given far to much room along with others-We did not do the basics-I have to say our performaces since the Cov game have gone down and down-We have GoalKeeper problems inspite of what we say. Collins is not good enough without getting onto the bandwagon-Nobody in midfoeld taking and controlling the game-I know MK has been out but two weeks without a game is no excuse.

We may be top but we need passion to keep us there and there was none-I will not comment on the Refs performance bit it was abissmal-

Do not sing the praises of Mk and others he has been put out of games since the outing at QPR–A bad day at the office which I for one do not want to see again.
We need two good mature defenders and Mr. M needs to get his hand in his pocket and get someone in–Get Griffin from Stoke he is out of favour–Someone who is vocal a player and can hold our immature players in tow.

Poor day at the Office-Come MM get players in.

Dare I suggest recalling Craddock to the starting lineup to give a bit of much needed experience to the defence? Move Stearman back to the centre and recall Davies from Leicester. Read the Leicester Mercury review of their game on Saturday “Davies possesses the added quality of rarely giving the ball away” - something that could not be said of Henry and Edwards!!!!! The season can be sucessful but this was more than just a blip, we have been garbage for weeks - since Edwards was recalled to the starting lineup and Mancienne was ill!!!

They’ve played poorly for a while but the cracks were papered over - until saturday. We haven’t stamped our authority on teams and we give the ball away far too much. At QPR when we started to play late in the game the chances came. At Blackpool we allowed them to drag us to their level.

We need a midfielder who can control the centre - use intelligence and the enthusiasm of our younger players. Mick knows this and istrying to do something I’m sure.

Don’t just blame the defence. they were left exposed too often but Stearman should never have been fullback. If we were worried about their winger then Kites shouold have been told to keep near him.
Also we have lost 50% of the back four (Mancienne and Foley)

Now is CRADDOCKS time. mature, calm under pressure and determined to get back in. Play against Blues as a warmer then let him rip. Ward, foley, Craddock and Stearman will stiop the goals.

As for Elliot - he is just a long line of ex - players that have stuffed us in the past - all actively encouraged by the ‘boo boys’. If the crowd give you treatment then you try harder. That’s human nature.

So well done boo boys. You try and crucify our own players while encouraging the opposition. What great fans you are……..NOT!

Hate to say it but we were pretty poor on Saturday. Since Xmas we have been struggling for goals and that does not sit well.

Mick has always said if we can score more than the opposition then the defence is ok.

Well that is not happening now and our free scoring attitude in the first half of the season has done us well. Teams are now coming to play us at our own game and that is to push on us as much as we can. This means we are pegged back in our own half and the defence is just not good enough to cope with this pressure.

We are vunerable on the opposition breaking quickly as collins and shackell just dont have the speed. We have no cover and as such the last three or four matches have seen merlin playing players out of there favoured positions.

God help if Hennessy goes as Ikeme is just not up to the standard required.

Wayne lets in an average of 1.3 goals a game.

Ikeme lets in an average of 2.5 goals a game.

Its just not good enough and if wayne goes it will truly show the clubs ambitions. Which is to stay a championship team knocking on the doors of the playoffs each year.

    Just one last message.

The last six years prove when our managers need financial backing the board are not prepared to give it.You only need to look at our one season in the premiership. It is clear we need at least two or three quality players and the signs so far seem to indicate (Gow £250,000)that we are still looking for bargain basement players.I ask one final question. If Morgan is not going to spend the £30,000,000 on the stadium and is not going to spend it on the team ,what is he going to do with it?

I made a point on here a few weeks ago about this remark that some people keep going on about and i’ll say the same to you and the other “bone-head” fans. How many season’s can you remember us being in the top 2 and then throwing it away??
Now I have been going to Wolves for some 20 odd years now, I actually only remember 1 season which is the 1 we all remember. Other than this i Remember 5/6 mid table seasons and mostly chasing the play offs or safely in the play offs.

So where is this crap coming from of us being a team that “ALWAYS” throws it away?? It happened once!

Ok we are having a dip now, but are still 4 clear. I made a point to the bloke infront of me in the Southbank on saturday, I would much prefer the blip now where MM can make changes than for it to happen in a months time where we are stuck with what we have. Atleast the players can be threated to be replaced for the next 3 weeks.

I agree with most post’s the midfield was poor on saturday and kightly looked out of form. Collins (who I have defended) was good but has to be to blame for atleast 1 goal for his lack of pace. Shackell looked nervous and Stearman should of played CB. Iwelumo looks a player in dire need of a goal and Ikeme looked v poor in place of Hennesey.

I think 1 Centre Back, 1 Centre Mid, and 1 striker should see us home. I agree with most that we actually dont need to sign a Centre mid and bring back Davies who seems to be playing well.
I would sell Keogh, I like the lad but think for his own development and future, his football should lie away from Molineux, this probably also goes for Little and Jones who are just not getting the breaks in the team.

The problem is there is either no alternative or he won’t play them, why not bring back Little he’s been playing regularly pacey, Edwards why not give Rosa a shot. How can you criticise Kightly for having a few bad games - complete rubbish. He is still our biggest provider of goals and 2nd in the league for assists. I beleive there is too much pressure on our wingers

What we need is a plan b (can Davies do this?) perhaps a creative midfielder, another striker and a quality centreback - lets get Berra - they are listening to offers.

If we can get through this trough and emerge still on top with some new faces we can do it. No one wins the league with losing a few games (apart from Arsenal of course).

Problem with MM is his tinkering. At Blackpool we had just one out - Kightly - so instead of just bringing in another midfielder such as Gray or Jones (pushing Edwards wider), he chose to put Foley at right wing, Stearman at right back and another pairing at centre back - that’s 3 changes where we only needed one - worse than that, we lost the division’s best right back and one of the division’s best centre backs by playing Foley & Stearman out of position - then Edwards gets injured, so Foley goes into central midfield, then left midfield and eventually ended up at left back!!! Little is injured unfortunately, but we have no other cover at right back - this is also typical of McCarthy - Elokobi gets injured, so he signs two left-backs and then plays neither of ‘em - puts a striker/come winger there instead! Wardy has actually done very well, so we now have 3 fit left-backs and no right backs!! He should have played Collins there on Saturday - he’s less of a risk out there - Stearman needs to stay right there in the centre - we need his pace and general alertness - no way would Elliott have beaten Stearman to that cross for his first goal! We also need to get Dave Jones back in the middle asap - he’s the only one capable of keeping the ball - and finally - bring back Mark Davies - the lad is a class act!

    There’s only one Jody Craddock,
    One Jody Craddock
    He’s in the back 4,
    Cos Collins is poor,
    In a Jody Craddock wonderland.

I’m sure that would raise a dry smile from Mick

No panic button on my part. I expected us to finish 8th before a ball was kicked. Nothing thus far has changed my opinion.

What’s wrong with having the hots for Pat Benatar ? ? ?

I suggest that Davis finds a long distant relative from Ireland & plays for their National team.

I am sure MM would pick him every game.

The idea is to SUPPORT the team through thick & thin, thats what PROPER FANS DO.

You have been sat there all season waiting for a few iffy result so you can spout your drivval. The fact you try to pass yourself off as a ‘fan’ is laughable.

    You really are a cretin.

Why dont you go away & irritate someone else.

I am amazed you can type with so few cromazones floating around your empty head.

You complete & utter waste of space.

Ive been wondering why after spending a million plus on Shackell he hasnt hardly had a game..now i know why…as with saturday the last time he played he ended up arguing with Collins on the pitch,…a blundering waste of money…and what have Chelsea done with Mancienne stuck him in the reserves! if we have real ambitions of going up offer serious money for him and see if they will part with him..prob not but i think 5million plus would make them show an interest

Going by our latest results we are definitely struggling whilst a lot of fans are on about our defence I would say our midfield needs to be sorted out we don’t have any quality in the centre of midfield and what we definitely need is a couple of solid experienced defensive midfielders who can not only control the game but help create more opportunities for our forwards and I would give Vokes a start along with Ebanks-Blake as I think they could form a good partnership one that I am sure that would result in more goals.

    42) absolutely bloody well right!!! we’ve got an awesome squad, we know it. coupla signings could do with freshening up a bit (*cough*midfield..). just take a deep breath and go for it. Hennessey’s awesome. Kightly’s brilliant. Ebanks-Blake is the best goalscorer outside the premiership i reckon. Edwards has got potential. Stearman’s been a rock, we’ve got a great chance to keep it going (*cough*getatopdrawermidfielder…)

36 - ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE…

‘The glass is half full not empty’..

I have been a Wolves fan all my life and this season like any season i ‘hope’ we can do better than the last.

Right now we are 4 points clear top of the league and although we may have slowed down a bit, i for one am loving it! I’d love us to win every game but no one can do that. However, that’s no reason to say well ‘ i’ve seen it all before - rubbish after a few bad outings’..If that were the case i wouldn’t be a Wolves fan, and i’d support man utd…

I just hope MM sorts the lads out! I’m sure they wont be happy with things at present. Thankfully we have a buffer but its getting smaller, so something needs to gee us back up to our best as reading come sniffing…

    UP THE WOLVES!

58, spot on. Mick’s bloody tinkering when there’s ABSOLUTELY NO NEED is what’s responsible for my ripping my hair out.

One player missing? Simple: replace like with like. If you can’t do that, replace with the next-best option. What you DON’T do is move 2 or 3 team regulars from their natural positions just to solve ONE problem. Doing that creates SEVERAL problems. The result? We lose our shape and nobody’s confident in what they’re doing. Jesus, aint it obvious? Why can’t Mick see that?????

Just hand the initiative to the opposition, why don’t ya, Mick?
