Wolves signing of Gow collapses

Wolves signing of Gow collapses

5295247Glasgow Rangers striker Alan Gow’s transfer to Wolves is off after he failed his medical.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed a “biomechanical” problem had prevented the transfer from Rangers going through. But he stressed it was “not serious” and hasn’t ruled out signing the 26-year-old in the summer, when the problem is sorted out. Biomechanical relates to the skeleton.

Following stringent tests from the Wolves medical team, the club have put the deal on ice.

McCarthy said: “He can continue to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday – it’s a biomechanical thing that he will get sorted.”

A fee of £250,000 had been agreed between the clubs and the 26-year-old had also sealed a two and a half year contract, pending the medical. McCarthy reckons the exact nature of the problem would have to be revealed by the player or Rangers.

He said: “He’s gone back to Rangers. He’s had an extensive medical but something’s been found that we’re not completely happy with. He’s gone back to have it checked out.

“It’s not really serious and it’s something that can be sorted out, but we’re not going ahead with the deal on the strength of it. It’s really the fact that our medical team were really thorough.

“We had agreed everything and we were really looking forward to having him, but we’re not going to take him at the moment. Not in this window.”

McCarthy believes the minor nature of the problem meant Gow could carry on playing, as he had just reeled off 17 appearances for Blackpool on loan.

The Wolves boss said: “He could carry on playing tomorrow.”

McCarthy hasn’t ruled out signing Gow in the future, after failing with a bid for him in the summer of 2007 when he signed for Rangers.

The Molineux chief added: “He’s a good player – I tried to sign him before. He would have been a really good signing, who would have covered us in a number of positions.”

Im a little confused! :S if he can carry on playing and you want to sign him in the furtue what is wrong? Or is it that he is only a Championship standard player hence 2 year contract and if we dont go up we will have him then! Seems odd to me! (yes I understand we dont want to waste money)

I think we could still sign Gow but on a loan till the end of the season with an option to buy.

Think of it from Rangers point of view – how can they sell a player to another club when it is known that he’s failed a medical already.

Walter Smith doesnt want him back after Gow’s White Hat joke …. hence the reason why Gow has never played a league match for Rangers!!!

I am having a hard time deciphering MM’s Irish/Yorkshire logic.

1.Everyone seems to think Gow is a good purchase-I have never seen the guy play so I assume everyone knows what they are talking about.
2.MM says he can play TWICE a week, for Rangers no problem? But not for Wolves???
    3. Whatever the problem is it can be resolved, no problem according to MM.

Perhaps MM is unsure of the word “biomechanical” Big word for a lad from Barnsley!!!

In the meantime, Birmingham are clearly gearing up for the second half of the season. We have lost Mancienne and appear to have a weakness in central defence and lack cover in midfield and on the wings. I hope MM has his strategy organized for the rest of the way

I agree with MM, why take a player that has an injury all beit a small one. That small injury could turn out to be something more severe if he kepts playing on it. He could be another Tony Daley and then everyone would be moaning about wasting 250k.

I think our main problem is going to be picking defences and midfields apart in the second half of the season. I think we need an attack minded midfielder who can see the pass. Lets go out and get someone like JJ O’toole rather than settling for players that are not 100% and would from MM comments be another square peg in a round hole!

It’s a shame but if he has a a huge medical bill hanging over him then maybe we should leave him.

Put the extra in a good bid for John-Joe O’Toole from Watford. He ticks all the MM boxes for one of our targets. Scores a few from midfield and can tackle. We could do with a tackler in midfield, particularly if Henry gets injured. This lad can tackle and score goals.

what a ridiculous comment, he failed his medical he has a history of hamstring problems, thts the least we need.

we still got a whole month basically to get players in , and for my money blues are panic buying, bouazza was terrible when he played us for charlton just tried to shoot from 40 yards, and my god lee bowyer why do you want his ego in your dressing room for,

i would say tht if you compared wage bills you would see aa dramatic differnece, and fro me i would rather pay less and have a great team you know 11 players and subs, than have 3 good players who are on 11000 and everyone else who a bit more weaker.

I agree that the Blues activity is not something to be too concerned about. McLeish seems to want to invest in “has beens” as opposed to Mick who invests in the future.

That said, in the January transfer window, we should only invest in players who have the potential or proven experience to cut it in the Premiership not just to get us out of the Championship.

Currently, in my view the following have Premiership potential : Hennessey, Ikeme, Foley, Elokobi,Stearman, SEB, Kightley and Jarvis. That leaves a number of significant gaps and we don’t want to leave it to the summer to plug all the gaps when wage demands if we are a Premiership club will be significantly higher!

Oh and I would include Mark Davies in that Premiership potential list…probably at the top and the likely captain! Sorry, no room for the annointed ones Stephen Ward and Neil Collins. I’m a great admirer of work rate and commitment but top class ability has to go with them.

Obvioulsy he will spend it when he needs to – no need to spend any of it now on bench warmers who will get frustrated and disrupt the squad – let’s get promoted and strengthen then. We are top of the league with the current squad in case you didn’t notice.

Real quality players won’t come until they know if we will go up or not – we’d only get stopgaps now and who knows if it would be the right players for next season – we have 95% of the players we need to get out of this league and undermining their confidence by bringing in players who would have to replace them (no one of quality will come to warm the bench) is not the way to motivate the players we have. let’s stick with what we have – maybe supllemented with a few loans – we don’t need anythign else now – UTW!

I had no idea what bio-mechanical meant so i looked it up, i thought it was something to do with robots ha ha
Chronic biomechanical dysfunction injuries occur when there is excessive movement between joints and/or soft tissue structure. Because these injuries are motion based, it makes sense that only precise observation of a person’s individual movement action (their gait) will provide the accurate information required to effectively correct and treat their condition.

media wolf pete, I’m no Karl Henry fan, but I have to say that the pairing of Jones & Henry have been in place most of the season, during that time we have scored loads of goals and amassed loads of points, we have players who get forward from midfield they are our wingers Kightly and Jarvis, and while they are bombing on you need someone watching the back door. Three out of our 4 losses weve had this season have come when Dave Edwards has been in the team, a midfielder who bombs forward.

7pts clear, the club clearly making efforts to strengthen the squad and some people accusing them of running a “joke” club.

I wish some of these people would take their brand of negativity and disappear. They do nothing constructive to help the club and the sooner the club takes drastic action to remove them and their ilk the sooner real supporters can get back to enjoying their football.

Hello “Whingers” again – it’s apparent that when we do not play – we lose and when we see other clubs buying players – we automatically think were
losing . I agree with a lot of the positives posted but there are more negatives – We are Top still we have a Hard Match tomorrow against Preston but lets guve the team a chance. We need to re-inforce some positions (so do many Clubs) but a failed “Thug” like Bowyer is not the way we should go -what’ he being paid ? If he struggles in the West Ham Team – why shoild we want him ?
Let’s get in some young hungry players – at least we will not be paying rediculous wages like the “Blue Noses” – If we lose tomorrow and i do not think we will – let’s see what your comments are then

80., Who do you think should pick the Wolves 1st XII? The Wolves manager or the Chelsea manager?

Mancienne wasn’t the same player after going away with England (for whatever reason). He had problems with illness, a Migrane, whatever.. If another player comes in and does well, the first player has lost his place a la Ikeme and Hennessey. That motivates the players you bring in to do well and take their chance and it motivates the regulars to keep performing and not pick up any silly bookings or red cards.

If that upsets Chelsea, so what?

we dont need him, our strike force has been working fine, we’ve been banging in the goals, it was a bargain but “there are plenty more fish in the sea”. we dont really need to strengthen in that department, midfield is probably what we need, with jones and edwards injured at the moment, we could do with a someone there as we can’t rely on potter can we? our defense is fine, everyone banging on about manicienne going and it will make a big difference, shackell is good player and he derserves a change in the starting XI, foley and stears have been superb and also ward has been trefic as he was a striker last year and by switching from being striker to a defender could of gone all belly up. but its worked and thats why were top!!!
