Scott Carson and Borja Valero have both pledged to stick with Albion – even if they are relegated from the Premier League.
Record signing Valero and England keeper Carson both say they will stick with the Baggies regardless of the outcome of their top flight survival battle.
The duo were the club’s marquee summer signings for a total of £8m and both stars say they would be willing to help them battle back to the Premier League if they go down.
Carson remains confident that Tony Mowbray’s men can pull off a second ‘Great Escape’ but he says he was aware of the risk of relegation when he signed from Liverpool in a £3.25m summer transfer.
“I accepted it (relegation) may happen,” said Carson. “I signed for the long haul, not just for short term. It goes through your head that you may not remain in the Premier League.
“It always goes through your head that you don’t know how a newly promoted club will perform. It’s always difficult for clubs to establish themselves in the Premier League.
“But we still have a great chance of survival if we keep playing as we have. I just hope we can stay up.”
Albion smashed their transfer record to sign Valero for £4.7m from Real Mallorca in the summer.
And the 23-year-old Spaniard also said he accepted the risk of relegation when he agreed a four-year Hawthorns contract.
“I came here knowing everything that could happen because we are a small team in the league,” said Valero.
“If we finally go down to the Championship, I would not have any problem continuing playing here.”
And Valero said he had no regrets about his decision to quit La Liga for the Baggies.
“I think it is an important step in my career having come to play the Premier League,” he said. “It is important to grow as a footballer.
“I recommend to any player that if they have the opportunity, tehy should have an adventure here or abroad in football.
“When I decided to come to the Premier League, my only goal was to play the maximum possible matches with my team and do our best.”

Now thats refreshing to hear, loyalty and togetherness within the camp. What with the Viles injuries we will now see what they are made of. Boing Boing

Don’t worry guys, we’ll stay up anyway.
We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again!!
On another note, we should be trying to beat Blues to signing Krys Boyd too, he would be great for us.

Loyalty in football - there aint any. We’ll see fellas, come the start of next season, if your still with us or not.
Also, I’m still struggling to see the club’s justification in the transfer fees we paid for both!

Nice to hear, but they shouldnt be so negavtive. We can still stay up i have no doubt. A win against villa and our season has been turned on its head within 3 games.
Should we go down, keeping the squad we have we would sureley walk the chumpionship again.
I suspect this pledge is pretty irrelevent anyway. If we go down (yes thats an IF not a WHEN - Keep the faith) these will be two of the players Premiership teams will be interested in. If a reasonably big team comes in and offers £5m+ for Carson he’s realistically going to go to stay in the England squad. Same goes for Borja
Report abuse
A win against villa, you lot ??? HA HA HA HA HA
Villa are the biggest and best club in Birmingham, you can’t even snatch a win against a team 2 leagues below you. Just accept it’s another loss for the boggies this weekend and start planning for the championship, instead of putting false hopes into a ‘great escape’ that is not going to happen.
“I came here knowing everything that could happen because we are a small team in the league,” said Valero.
I suspect he is covering bases. If no one wants him, he stays and is labelled “loyal” if he moves on after relegation he won’t care a monkeys for the braggies.

Carson makes it sound like he’s doing everyone a big favour - he seems to forget Albion took a chance on him when no-one else would go near him.
It’s just sad in general now that handsomely rewarded professionals who contribute to a clubs success or failure soon take the easy option out instead of carrying on doing their job regardless of circumstances.
How very kind of you guys to promise to stay with us if we go down.
There is a small matter of the contract you both signed when you came to The Albion and a man called Jeremy Peace and a few thousand fans who expect you to show some loyalty.
Just to let you know that JP will not let you go unless he makes a profit on you anyway and you still have some way to go to prove that you are full value for the money paid out in transfer fees so please shut up and work hard. Actions speak louder than words.

These are quotes (maybe) made by players when prompted by the hacks, and therefore should be viewed with a hint of cynicism

Thanks you two for that, good to show the positiveness about staying up in the dressing room no longer exists!
Considering they both signed lengthy contracts I don’t really know why the felt the need to pubicly say these things, unless a club is as stupid as us to pay so much for Valero he’s going nowhere, as for Carson, it wouldn’t suprise me if he did go at the end of the season, he’ll soon be blurting out its in the interest of his “England” career.

I expected the long range snipers from down the road as well as the inevitable doubters in our own camp. I find this a great attitude, both of these players would have no trouble finding another club.

I notice you limit Villa to ‘biggest and best club in Birmingham.’ No doubt the mighty Wolves remain supreme in the Midlands. LOL.

Notice that the Turnip has nothing good to say about us. What a surprise. I remember him on ITV in the middle of last season, tipping the Wolves to overtake us. Nuff said.

I dont expect too much at Villa to be honest, but you never know with returning players, ie Carson and Moore.
Korens due a goal, got to come soon.
Regarding the article, well what do you expect them to say?
I have been told that Carson is happy here and wants to stay, but if someone offers good money and he wants to keep his England shirt then things happen.
Who cares anyway, we are stopping up!!
If i keep saying it it might just happen, it worked last season!!

I was impressed to read the story on this page where two obviously very talented players have pledged their faith in the club - but was disappointed to read the snidey comments from so called baggies fans - I can only think its sad dingles again using made up names - the same idiots who thought Kightly was great last season when he pledged himself to yet another year in the CCC, but think our lads lack ambition or aint good enough.

If people think Villa will turn us over then they are in for a shock,if they intend on playing
Reo-Coker at right back thats an area Albion will
exploite,they could also have some
players out.
The only way Villa have any chance of beating us is for YOUNG to do some of his diving antics,
BELIEVE ME! When Albion have MORRISON,CECH,
SIMPSON,and MOORE running at their back four
they wont know whats hit them!
When The Baggies win this game people like
Turnip Head Taylor & the other London Click
will start to stand up and take notice of Tony

19.. I partly agree with some of your comments i.e coker at right back and of course young and his dying swan act in the penalty area. But to be honest we are not that excellent at attacking yes we play very nice attractive forward thinking football which the tv pundits and those managers within the game (even Wenger says we are a very good football side) but we need a cutting edge up front hopefully Simspons style of more direct attacking will complement our passing football with the end result.

Actually now that you come to mention it, I suppose we do have plenty to shout about. Well run club. Got where we are without a sugar daddy or going bankrupt. Numerous seasons in the Premier League already. Winners of the Championship last year. FA Cup semi finalists last year. Own our own ground, greatly improved out of our own pockets. Running in the black. Fans that get behind the team, even when they’re bottom of the league. New training complex and academy, paid for out of our own earnings. But you’re right, I wouldn’t dream of mentioning any of that.

I vaguely remember us being linked with Graham Taylor as manager back in the mid 70s but he went to Ipswich and did well. His predictions though are a different matter, rather like his England career, and his style of play became old hat too. On paper Villa should win but it’s played on grass not paper so we are in with a chance until it’s over. As for Ashley Young and his Olympic Diving, that’s for the ref to sort out. We’re in with a chance if the team turns up. I think they will.

24. You come on Albion pages and make your comments and get very upset if people give you stick for them. They are genuine well judged opinions you claim. If thats the case why do you consistently refer to WBA with derogatory names like Poorthorns. Clearly you are just a wind up merchant and should be treated with the contempt you deserve.

Sutton Hoo, lol - Surely there’s nothing wrong with a little reeling in fishing on eachothers blogs, … After all the boggies take any opportunity whatsoever to come onto The Wolves blogs to make condescending and negative statements. Isn’t that the beauty of rivalry? I can take criticism as well as give it out.. But it IS my opinion that West Brom WILL be relegated, and for a fanbase that ridiculed Wolves for a 2-2 draw with Blackpool, when West Brom Lost to managerless Sunderland and then drew with a team two leagues below, isn’t it only natural that when a chance to gloat is in order it’s going to be fully taken advantage of?

Boja Valero is a quality footballer who has an
exellent range of pass and has the ability to
keep hold of the ball which is something not
many of our players can do,I admit that his
excellent performances have dipped over the
last few weeks but hopefully against Villa
he can show the world what a quality player
he is,it also needs Tony Mowbray to play him
in his best position which is just behind the
2 strikers.

Krys Boyd would be a superb target, snitch him from blues, 3.5mil ok we might not want to spend all that much but take the risk and have him, he knows where the net is, i watch Rangers quite alot and seen him play alot, he comes up with goals, which is what a natural stiker does, so lets go for him

Interesting to read Graham Taylor’s assessment of TM. Sadly. I believe he’s right. Fingers crossed for a draw but I fear a lesson in finishing.

I have to add that I’ve had my doubts about Carson, even before Baggies signed him, from his England howlers. He sounds as though he’s resigned to relegation. That’s not an attitude I’d expect. This club is Keystone-Cops run. Cue joke Piano music…

Morning Tezza!! Baggies fans!!
I feel more confident about playing a Carew Less Villa than one with him in it.
My biggest fear is that Villa play with two very good wingers and our fullbacks have struggled recently (excemption Cech). I still see Ashley Young and their set peices as the biggest threat.
Also dont be fooled by the media reports of half their team being injured, Barry will play and a number of other doubtfulls will be ready.
I hope Zuiverloon is fit as the Hoff will get torn up.
I also fancy Koren for a goal, he is due one, and i just fancy him to get one, just a feeling!!

Morning Bomber
We had this conversation in the cricket club after the Posh game.
In my humble opinion, whilst Cech looked excellent with the ball and was impressive going forward………he could have been charged with dereliction of duty when it came to defending, on numerous occasions there were acres of space down his flank.
This may have been related to the perception of so called inferior opposition, a flawed mindset, the cross for Posh`s goal came from the area supposedly policed by Cech.
I do rate him as a footballer, and think he should keep his place against the Villa, but i want to see much better from him defensively.

My reply was meant in the way you talk about, it was hardly a ranting attack, not my style. I’ve seen your mails on here and I know you’re not one of the idiot brigade, I also know that we have them as well as you. I don’t know how long you’ve been coming on here but on past history I thought it was a bit rich, a Wulfie accusing the Baggies of going on about the past. No offence mate, carry on taking the p-ss. At least you come on in your true colours, unlike the plonker that calls himself Distant Baggie.

Just read 42 Bomber. Anyone else think that if Zuiv is fit we could play him and Robbo at full back and Cech and Hoff as wide midfield. Adopt a defensive set up for a point and anything more is a bonus. These four full backs are attack minded anyway.
Sutton
I just do not rate the Hoff in any position.
When he first arrived he looked full of confidence and did an ok job in the championship, since then his form and stock has subsided into being a liability.
I wouldnt mind seeing Cech left mid with Robbo behind him, we could then put Morro if fit on the right and drop Brunt. It would also allow us to put Koren back in the middle, (a must in my opinion).

Playing football is so much more fun if you can forget your defensive responsibilities and go forward! He needs to balance up his game if he is going to be effective AND keep his place.
I hope there is some sort of passion and fighting spirit against Villa fom the team this weekend.
