Meet these eight Alaskan Malamute puppies, who have survived against the odds.
Owner Rose Woodward, of South Staffordshire, today told of her joy after the safe arrival of the cute litter following an emergency delivery.
The puppies’ mother Tikaani had been rushed in for emergency surgery seven weeks ago. But Mrs Woodward, aged 47, was told the heartbeats of the unborns were gone.
But just an hour later she received a phone call that changed everything – and would fill her home with a litter of healthy puppies double the size she had expected.
Mrs Woodward is now the proud owner of eight puppies, as well as their three-year-old healthy mother and father Nanuq, aged two.
The nutritionist, who lives with her 39-year-old husband Lee and four children, said: “We were all absolutely devastated.
“She was getting into distress and so we rushed her to Carmel Vets in Wednesfield. They were fantastic with her but they told us the heartbeats of the puppies had gone and we had lost them.
“About an hour later we got a call from the vet who was screaming that she had given birth to a healthy litter and it was double the number they had expected.
“The staff at the vets were all in tears. The dogs are beautiful. To me they are just the best dogs and we are ecstatic.”
The puppies, now seven weeks old, will be sold in six weeks when they have had time to be vaccinated, settled into a home and socialised with other animals.
