Jarvis set to win new contract

QPR V WOLVES 12 GD 06Wolves winger Matt Jarvis is set to win a new contract to reward his exciting performances and ward off Premier League suitors.

The 22-year-old’s deal is up at the end of the season, although the club have a 12-month option to extend it.

But Wolves boss Mick McCarthy wants to tie the former Gillingham man down to a longer term deal, in keeping with similar deals for his young and hungry brigade.

McCarthy has agreed long terms deals with Wayne Hennessey, Michael Kightly, Neill Collins and Carl Ikeme in the last few months and Jarvis, who cost £600,000 from Gillingham 18 months ago, is set to follow suit.

McCarthy said: “We’re in negotiations with him. His option will be taken up that’s for sure. We’ll be sitting down to discuss it with him and his agent.

“If scouts are looking at him, then great – it means he’s playing well for me. Both him and Kites can play on either side, but we’ve got some good, versatile players.

“Jarvis is another one who loves it here, he wants to be in the first team and he’s like the rest of us – he wants to get to the Premier League.”

“As I said on Friday, players should want to stay here to win something and get this club somewhere by winning something. No one should want to get there on the back of everyone else’s efforts.”

Get him signed up. There’s not many wingers like Jarvis knocking around who can beat their markers from a standing start.

He’ll be a vital performer in the second half of the season, especially when we need to unlock defences in tough home games.

Everyone keeps talking about kites, but ive always said jarvis is a better player. although i think kites plays better when jarvo is in the team, as it is hard for any team to double up on two wingers.

I cant believe he is on such a short contract. He is obviously an excellent player who will really set this league alight in the second half of the season injuries permitting

A quality player. Kites gets the praise, as he scores some vital goals but Jarvis is a proper winger that most full backs in the Premiership would not like facing.
Players like Jerome were gobbing off after the Wolves v Blues game. He must be unleashed against them in the cup!

Fantastic form this season and fully deserves a new contract.

No brainer…sign him up. If we go up, he’s one of the few who may be able to step up to that level on a regular basis. Others include Foley, Stearman and SEB, possibly the goalies and on his day, Kites? To add, Vokes will be better than all in a couple of year so long as MM gives him minutes on the pitch.

When both our wingers play it makes it nigh on impossible for opposing teams to double up on them. One on one Kights and Jarvo can ghost past their markers and supply crosses for the strikers and will chip in with goals themselves. Both of them are capable of at least 10 goals apiece this season.

Get Jarvo on an improved contract asap!

He’s on a short contract as we’ve been busy tying in other, more important players such as Neill Collins on long term deals. We wouldn’t want to risk losing any value in our investment in Collins would we?

I am gobsmacked that he is on such a short contract. He is an absolute nailed on must to be signed on. I am on record as having said that I felt we would miss him more than Kites when both got injured. I have seen no reason to change my mind since. This lad is a monster star in the making!

    Great news.
We haven’t seen the best of him by a long way.
He is one of the squad that could easily go on to make a Premiership class footballer. With Foley and Kightly he rates as one of McCarthy’s best bargain buys.

Only one concern, I wonder if this being announced now is to deflect us from the lack of news over Gow or any other target?

    14) As someone said yesterday, there is every chance you are a Tesco. You are infatuated by Collins and Stephen Ward. Collins gives 110% is brilliant in the air and lacks pace but has put in some good performances this season. As for Ward, he has been one of our best players this season - even better than fans’ favourite Kightly!
If you have nothing constructive to say in what has so far been an excellent season, do not bother coming on here. Even better go on the Tesco page!

Yet more negativity! No doubt if we reach the promised land in May you will still be having a pop at Collins. In my opinion his attitude is 100% and he wears the shirt with pride. What more can he do? Your next comment will no doubt be why bring in Gow when we should have kept Eastwood.

Not sure why anyone is going on about ‘why was he on such a short contract?’

He was on a 3 year + 1 deal - essentially Wolves have him on a 4 year deal if they wanted to keep him, 3 if they didn’t and wanted rid.

As it happens, we do and we are set to improve the terms - with 30 months ‘left’ on his current deal. Relax & chill out…

    Jarvis or Stewart Downing
Whats the difference ….. not much in my opinion and from what i have seen apart from a £10m plus price tag.

    Sign him now !!!! wolves
22yo that deserves 4 yeas plus a 1 year option.
This could be the championship signing of January.

Im not a big MM fan and have been one of his biggest critics but hats off to what he has done and the improved PR skills he now has.

“Jarvis is another one who loves it here, he wants to be in the first team and he’s like the rest of us – he wants to get to the Premier League.”
How many years have wolves fans wanted this attitude and not just players who dabble with the play-offs not getting promoted as they may next be on the transfer list on promotion.

Bob Wolf never ceases to amaze me at the level of pessimism he shows on here, when we are 7 points clear at the top and are into the 2nd half of the season.

Neill Collins & Stephen Ward give their all for the team.
Ward is turning into a class young player, Collins whilst he has faults in his tackling he always pops up with the goals and his work rate is unmatched at times… so shut it fool.
