Dennison tips winger for Premier

The 22-year-old’s deal expires at the end of the season, although the club have a 12-month option on him.

Jarvis is in talks over a new deal and Dennison, now a regular match summariser for local radio, believes it’s a wise move by boss Mick McCarthy.

Dennison, who scored 49 goals for Wolves in 353 games between 1987-97, said: “Pace becomes even more important the higher level you and his pace is frightening.

“If you leave him one against one, he will cause problems to any defender and I think he could do it at the top level – hopefully with Wolves.

“He excites people. He’s had a few injury problems but whenever he plays, he gives the team a real cutting edge. Someone of his pace and ability is going to make you a decent player, but Matt’s a very good player.

“The club realise they need to keep their better players and with the age he is as well, it’s crucial they do that, and he definitely fits into the ‘better players’ scenario.”
