Andy Keogh believes he has given Wolves boss Mick McCarthy a real selection dilemma for Saturday’s clash with Barnsley.
Keogh forced himself back into contention on Tuesday when he was involved in two goals in the 3-0 win over Derby.
Fifteen-goal top scorer Chris Iwelumo is expected to shake off a slight ankle knock to be fit for the visit of the Tykes, leaving McCarthy with plenty to think about as to who partners Sylvan Ebanks-Blake up front.
Keogh, who has notched just the one, said: “The manager has a dilemma. It was nice just to get a start because I’ve been doing a job for the team, trying to contribute.
“Hopefully I contributed on Tuesday night – we got a win, so I couldn’t have been that bad.”
Keogh started the season in tandem with Ebanks-Blake, but Tuesday was the first time since that they have been reunited from the start in attack.
But the Republic of Ireland international insists whoever is left on the bench will back the other.
He said: “Whoever is on the bench won’t sulk – they will come on and add something. You don’t get promoted with 11 players – you get promoted with 16, 17 or 18 players.
“We’ve realised it’s not just the 11 on the pitch, because at some stage, everyone will make a contribution or win us a point.”
Victory over the Rams put Wolves on 50 points one game before the halfway stage of the season. Keogh is concentrating only on this weekend’s game.
He said: “We’re just looking to Barnsley on Saturday – let’s win that one. We’ve proved how we can play in this league.
“People know what we can do but we’re just taking every game as it comes and it’s up to us to keep standards as high as they have been.”
Keogh admitted Wolves were fortunate to win the first-minute penalty that set them on their way against Derby.
He said: “I thought we were quite fortunate to get the penalty, because I didn’t see it myself. I won the header and I thought the referee had blown for a foul against me, but he pointed to the spot, and we’ll take a lucky one.”

Get Big Chris back in. Keogh is decent option to come on from bench.

I would like to see him or vokes start and hopefully get a goal or two. I gets to me when there is a fall guy in the team. He can contribute towards a memorable season for sure.

How about a 3 way strike force to combat the teams who close us down too much? Keogh’s role in that could be amazingly good.
well he still freezes in front of goal and always offside
Report abuse
andy, i like your attitude, you are a credit to the team, you work your socks off and always do your best. Unfortunately, a fit big chris should always get in ahead of you as he is banging the goals in for fun and that is why he will play if fit. This isn’t slating you in any way but you aren’t the most prolific of scorers MM has to play the in-form players as SEB and Chris are. Keep your chin up, its just a pity more pro footballers havent got your attitude and commitment.

Andy Keogh runs his socks off for Wolves and was great on Tuesday night. But if you’re asking which pair should start out of the 15 goal Chris Iwelumo, the 14 goal Sylan Ebanks-Blake or the 1 goal Andy Keogh….the answer’s in the question.
start him on sat with vokes give ebanks a rest too. come on you wolves.
Keogh did well, but Iwelumo should start up front with Ebanks-Blake.

I think AK is better served coming off the bench.

in your dreams mr keogh…
lightweight, no conviction, more luck than judgement, has one good game in 5 and unable to put his foot through the ball when it’s really required.
You’ll be on the bench sun-shine, with the rest of the bit part players.

Keogh you played well tuesday night ! ! Glad you played and showed ppl what you can do. play like that every game you play and mick has a selection head-ache.score a few and the fans will back you too

may i be the 1st to just make an apoligy. Because i was giving keogh alot of stick over the past couple games but he played really well on tuesday night. Think mm should start keogh on saturday.
Andy Keogh had a good game on Tuesday night and certainly pressed his case for inclusion. Regarding the penalty, what a pleasant change it makes for Wolves to be awarded a ’soft’ penalty. Normally, we have to have a player half decapitated in the box in order to have a chance of a penalty.Perhaps things tend to go your way when you are at the top. Wolves 2 Barnsley 1 on Saturday.
listen to the man! heres a lad that always tries hard yet has zero confidence in himself, not once in that interview did he come accross as a lad enjoying his football, surely us fans gettin on his back has helped cuase this problem? maybe its time we had more games like tuesday where we praise him for his strengths rather than his weaknesses. not every striker is a 20 goal a season man like seb, others do alot of work to set up people like seb and i think its about time everyone realised this, i mean why do you think billy sharp scored so many goals few seasons back? it was becuase he had keogh along side him setting him up game after game.
Personally, I’d put Big Chris on the bench this saturday as he’s been looking a touch tired in the last couple of games. Play Keogh & pretty much keep the side that beat Derby.
Brilliant Come On Keogh

15 – How can he be Micks favourite? He’s clearly number 3 striker at the moment. Bet you cant wait for us to lose a few so you can start calling for Mick to be sacked. As a club, we have too many idiots like you
Report abuse
I have no hang up on Keough i think he’s been out of form but i can’t understand why MM did not play Vokes he’s looked really good the last 2 games he’s come on. On Tuesday we kept pumping high balls into the front 2 and they never won anything but so if were going to play that game Vokes showed he can win them.

Andy Keogh needs the support off the fans without this he has an uphill struggle & in turn will knock his confidence. Keogh has a lot to learn addmitted but he allways gives 100%. Lets take the positives from the negatives and give him the support he needs.

Top of league and still moaning fickles on here
Report abuse
The team will be the same as Tuesdays.
Shame about the handful of moaners slating Keogh so much, but then this is the E&S messageboard so it must be expected!!! But glad to see praise in the majority for AK, an extremely important squad player and someone who can play a big part in helping us get where we want to be…
Report abuse
He did well the other night but is not prolific enough in front of goal. The ideal partnership is Chris and Sylvan. It is great to have Keogh and Vokes to come off the bench.
Transfer window, though, need to sign someone like Fryatt, just in case any of the deadly duo get injured!
To be fair to him am I reading that wrong or has Keogh actually scored two goals not one? The picture shows him scoring against Swansea, but what about the winner against Palace he scored??? He’s not exactly flush for goals so don’t start taking half of them away!
Keogh to start on Saturday
Report abuse
I think SEB plays better without big Chris!
Keogh played well on Tuesday and probably deserves another start on Saturday, however it does not really matter who plays because it is blatantly obvious MM has created a squad ethic and whoever plays will give their all and be supported by those waiting for their chance
Come on you Wolves!!!!

15. Muppet by name muppet by nature – it’s idiots like you that are our biggest problem not MM or Keogh! I bet you were singing for Freddie Eastwood too…..
Oh NO! TERRY has come out of hibernation. Sign the BOGGIES got a point last Saturday.
Keogh should definitely start Sat. Iwelumo is just a one dimensional targetman who Brum and QPR sussed out and had in their pocket. Keogh SEB is far more formidable partnership.
Just beyond me how burkes who claim to be Wolves fans come on here and slag off their own players. Andy has his skills and they are not about scoring goals but making them. He only made two goals on Tuesday and scored none so drop him? I watched the QPR came and boy did our forwards need Andy running around and creating some space for them to work. They never had a sniff. Proud to see you wear a Wolves shirt Andy and ignore the idiots.
well said andy… we are with you mate, the manchester wolves.
Dr foster ,100% agree
Report abuse
Start him on the bench…………..one of those in West Park!!!
Keogh has started 90% less games than Eastwood this season, yet is 1 goal behind him in the stats and gets more than his fair share of assists unlike lazy Freddy.
Wolves Mod – you’re a complete burke, even more so than bob wolf or torquay man. the crown is all yours son, well done !
15 – You’re a burke too – did he say he’d score 20 goals coming off the bench every week ? no. Idoiot.
its a squad game, and he’s got his part to play. When he does, lay off the lad and may be you’ll see an improvement.
I have always said that he would be a better player playing just behind the front 2 men. he is not a natural goal scorers but he has the vision some players lack

Whoever wears the gold shirt on saturday, will do for me!
Mick was spot on to rest dave jones and big chris against derby.
So long as we perform we wont need our best eleven to beat barnsley.
The strength of the squad is really starting to show now and it proves how important all the squad players are.
I said a few months back, we have to support ALL the players, whether theyre first eleven/favourites/our best players or not.
They will all be called upon at some stage through the season to play their part.
Support them all….we will reap the rewards!
I reckon Mick knows his first eleven now as im sure most of us do, but we cant play them for 46 games, its impossible due to…injuries/suspensions/loss of form/tiredness etc etc
My own first eleven and good alternatives/subs…..
Hennessey/ Ikeme
Foley/Collins
Stearman/ Shackell
Mancienne/Craddock
Ward/ Hill
Henry
Jones/ Edwards
Kightly
Jarvis/Gray
Ebanks blake/Vokes
Iwelumo/ Keogh
Going by my choices i reckon in the transfer window we could do with another central midfielder and another winger as cover for the second half of the season ????

all you guys slating this lad ought to hang your heads in shame, call yourself wolves fans? this guy wears the old gold with pride, its a pity a few of the other prima donnas from previous seasons didnt, and yourselves too, he is a wolves player so get whatever brain cells you have left working in gear and get behind ALL the lads , they are going to need all our support to get us up this year……!

Wow!! Terry has a copycat WUM. It can’t be the real Terry, as he wouldn’t dare come on here with Wolves top of the league, and the Boggies bottom?? No-one is that stupid!! Or is he????

Mick made three changes on Tuesday when all he needed to do was replace Iwelumo with Vokes.
What was the problem with Jones?
I thought Keogh was absolute rubbish, he will never improve enough for us to take him into the premiership next season.
Hill did OK in his first game, need to play Jarvis from the start on Saturday.

The guy isn’t good enough.. he missed another sitter, ball luckily came straight back to him, and he passed it 3 yards to Blake to do the job.. but a standing ovation from the morons in the south bank. This football club wants to be play in the elite yet takes sympathy with players who are simply not good enough.
“he wears the old gold with pride” Nige… nice Nige – well done for running around and being proud, you can’t play football to a standard we need but you are proud. How can you say he plays with pride when you know nothing about the bloke? For all you know, he thinks wolves fans are idiots for praising him for sub standard performances.
Terence !! You’ve come back to us! It’s like you’ve never been away.
I just dont think Keoghs good enough for us. Fair play to him tho he played alright on Tuesday but hes not gonna score goals like Iwelumo is he??? Should start with Iwelumo on Sat. Should start with Jarvis on sat too.
To me Keogh is at the crossroads. We all know he works hard and is a good runner down the channels but equally we all know he misses far too many chances.I don’t know if he does, but he should be working every afternoon with Terry Connor and others to improve his finishing. If he does not improve this area his career will go down hill.
Fair play he set the 3rd up..BUT should have scored it and was lucky the shot fell back to him. For me hes the fourth best striker..but as we all know Mick has his Golden boys!! Up the WOLVES!!

I thought Keogh had his best game for ages. Just a pity he didn’t score, but as for giving McCarthy a dilemma, I wouldn’t have thought so if Iwelumo is fit.

When was the last tim we had a striker that had scored 15 goals before the start of December???
If Big Chris is one dimensional (can’t spell, I know) then please, yes, I’ll take that every time, he is the best STRIKER we have had at the club for yrs & yrs.
Can’t believe people are actually debating on here wether he should be in the team or not & one post even reckons SEB plays better without him????
ERM there are 27 reasons why that ain’t the case.
Keogh is a good lad & needs to get his confidence back & will work all day long, but lets be honest, right now, he couldn’t finsh his dinner. Bench for him common sense not sentiment must prevail.
Keep the faith

Maybe against less threatening sides the old “diamond midfield” formation mite suit the introduction of Andy K. He deffinatley aint a SEB or CI but I feel he’s an attractive option just behind the front 2…either that or play 3 at the back if opposition hasnt got recognised wingers/wide men.
Lets not get carried away BUT lets recognise the contribution to the game n to the goals that Andy K gave…a good result & score against a decent team..says it all…!!!!!!!!!!1

Keogh is awful…and his fans really need to wake up…he is second rate in the air…second rate on the ball and second rate at finishing, if he was any sort of decent player he wouldn’t have shot the ball into Bywater and thus set up Ebanks-Blake…Iwelumo has played 16 league games and scored 13 goals, Keogh has played 21 League games and scored 2 goals this season…WAKE UP EVERYONE!

The Andy Keogh debate continues unabated, I see. I suppose it depends on how each of us view him.
Is he a natural goalscorer? No way. He needs six efforts on goal to put just one away, so he’s not an instinctive predator like Sylvan. A different type of forward, yes, but not a goalscorer in the true sense, sorry.
Is he a creator of goals instead? well, yes and no. He played a mighty BIG part in demolishing Derby for sure, but is he CONSISTENTLY constructive? I genuinely don’t believe he is. However, to his great credit, you knock his workrate, commitment and enthusiasm which are qualities Wolves desperately need and Mick rightly demands.
Andy has a tendency to flit in and out of games. He’s a little bit unpredictable because you never quite know what you’re going to see from him. He can undoubtedly turn games in our favour when used as a sub, but can also look anonymous at times on other occasions. I don’t put this down to a lack of confidence on Andy’s part because it’s something many have noticed well before he even started receiving stick.
Andy is the sort of player that I’ve never been sure about, one way or the other. He certainly doesn’t deserve much of the criticism he receives, but by the same token I can understand the point of view of his detractors. Sorry, but I’m still sat on the fence where Keogh’s concerned. As for his ‘best postion’, you tell me. I sometimes think he may be best employed sitting in the hole behind our two main strikers, but that would mean re-jigging our 4-4-2 formation to accomodate him, which would be ridiculous.
Starting spearhead for the Barnsley game? I’ve no axe to grind with Andy, but sheer commonsense tells me that it’s got to be Chris and Sylvan. Assuming Chris isn’t fit, then Sam should partner Sylvan.
You start with your strongest lineup every single time if you’re serious about taking the 3 points on offer, simple as that. Sorry, Andy, but there’s no sentiment in this game, nor should there be. Good luck to the kid in trying to break through, though.

So we’ve just played 12 games in 8 1/2 weeks since the last international break where the majority of our players were involved in full internationals/U21 games – so didn’t get a break then. That’s one game, on average, every 5 days. We’ve now got 4 games in 16 days coming up. Players need breaks to freshen up; surely people have noticed how tired the likes of Iwelumo and Kightly have been in recent games – despite the fact that in between some of the more lacklustre performances have been some excellent performances. We need the squad mentality and whilst clearly Iwelumo and SEB are first choice, Vokes hasn’t done a bad job when called upon and credit to Keogh for a good performance on Tues. I expect Big Chris will get a break again this weekend – save him for Donnie away or for when he’ll be up against Morgan on boxing day. A fit again Jarvo could give Kightly a break, who we know has been nursing a bit of a knock. Clearly the squad players are not the first choice – but the likes of Hill, Keogh, Vokes, Edwards etc – will be called upon throughout the season for injuries and suspensions, so why not, with such fixture conjestion, give them a run-out to protect the best 11?
Okay, it’s a bit of a gamble for MM since if we drop points he’s bound to get some criticism. But as London Wolf said (No. 42), it’s a squad game and every member has his part to play.

meatloaf , as you don’t know me you cannot really comment on who i know and don’t know so your comment kind of contradicts itself my learned friend, all i was saying as 65 said is we need to be behind every player in gold and black, we are all supposed to be wolves fans after all, we have no power on wether AK plays or not , so if and when he does get behind the lad and get his confidence back up, unite as 1 supporter or give up. Up the Wolves and the future bright. From darkness cometh light.

He might be good for a middle of the table side but not for a promotion side.Wolves should up there for promotion this year and a promoted team needs goalscorers. Keogh isn’t. Goalscorers all have the same kind of mind. Sorry but we need another striker in January and get rid of Keogh.I would play Vokes and Ebanks blake on Saturday.

To compare Andy Keogh to Robert Taylor is an insult!!! AK has had alot of good games for us and it is not long since his name was sung from the roof tops. He is not the most talented player but he gives everything in all the positions he plays in and does lots of unselfish work for others to benefit from. Why the witch hunt – he plays for Wolves! Get off his back & support him!!!

72- in fairness I admit in hindsight i shouldnt have compared andy keogh to robert taylor because thinking anbout it Robert Taylor actually had a good career before wolves rather than playing for scunthorpe. Sam Vokes is a fantastic striker and its an insult to him keogh is anywhere near the team.
The truth is that the ral fans like me will never forgive keogh for his previous comments about the fans- also his attitude and his lack of ability so he will always get the bird from us until he’s gone- get rid mccarthy- listen to the fans

Reading some of the idiots on here makes me realise, we do not deserve to be where we are.
Most of you are clueless idiots who were songing for Freddie all last year.
Now you are slagging one of technically the best players at the club.
He was 3rd choice and rightly so, SEb, and CI, were scoring.
Iwuelmo was not playing Injured or not on Tuesday, because he had 3 games where he was poor.
Keogh has come on played well, created chances and created space.
The chance he hit on Tuesday was not a sitter, it was a toght angle, he still hit the target.
He had the quality, and class to not panic, and put the ball on a plate for SEB.
I have news for you fit or not Seb ain’t starting Saturday.
Last season Keogh scored 12 goals, and did not play many games up front, he also set up every one of Eastwwods goals.
For some one “who is not consistent at creating chances” he set up 15 – 20 last season. After we siogned SEb, him and SEB scored 20 goals…….
