Sylvan fires a title warning

Sylvan fires a title warning

4989-wms-wolves-der.jpgSylvan Ebanks-Blake shot down the Rams last night and declared – ‘We shall not be moved’.

The 3-0 victory at Molineux retained Wolves’ three-point lead at the top of the table after rivals Birmingham and Reading also won. But the comprehensive nature of Wolves’ 16th win of the season left no one in any doubt of their lofty intentions as they bounced back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at QPR.

“We scored three goals and that’s a really big message to show what we’re about and why we’re top,” said Ebanks-Blake. “We showed everyone we’ve come together and we’re still there. I think we showed what we can do if you give us space and time on the ball.

“We can play football, we can carve teams open and we can make it look easy – and at times we did that.”

Asked if it was a Premier League performance, Ebanks-Blake said: “You could say that – it was against a Premier League team who came down last season. It was a brilliant performance.”

But the £1.5m striker, whose brace took his tally to 14 this season, insists Wolves will continue to do their talking on the pitch.

“We’ve got a humble manager and we’re a very humble team,” said the 22-year-old.

“We show teams respect, not only on the pitch but off the pitch in the way we go about the game. We don’t ever take anyone lightly.  We try to win each game the best way we can. The big thing is to do your talking on the pitch – results and points win games.”

Delighted Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes last night’s win proves his side are keeping the pressure on their rivals, rather than the way around.

“We’re enjoying and relishing the position,” he said.

“I keep getting asked if we can deal with it.

“Well, we won again and we’re still top and the others behind us (Birmingham and Reading) won.

“We’ll have to keep picking up points because they’re chasing us.

“There’s two ways of looking at it though. We’re under pressure to keep ahead of them and they’re under pressure to keep up with us.”

Solid – good recovery after Derby gave us the run around with half an hour of head tennis after we went one-nil up. Dodgy penalty was a nice gift to start the evening though!!

Hill looked the part at leftback – didn’t put a foot wrong especially considering his lack of match fitness – gonna have plenty of competition there soon! Good to see Collins making a bid for right wing too – guess he must be reading some comments on here….

Good performance, not great………. We were lucky not to conceed early on but and a few times be it from a throw out from the keeper or extra pass from defence, we put ourselves under unesscessary pressure.

    But…………

3 Goals scored, none conceeded. We hit the post, we had an open goal missed from Keogh and especially in the second half kept Derby to very tame long range efforts on goal.

Barnsley had a good result last night and wont be push overs but sooner or later one of the 3 teams will crack and lose points. Looking at our next 4 games, Barnsley, Doncaster, Sheff Utd and Blackpool……..I cant see why it would be us. Remember Blues and Reading have to play eachother twice!!! We have them only once so dropped points are guaranteed somewhere.

LET’S JUST CONCENTRATE ON OUR GAMES AND OUR PERFORMANCES, MICK IS SPOT ON WITH HIS VIEW.

WE CAN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT BRUM OR READING OR ANYONE ELSE IN THE DIVISION, LET’S JUST KEEP PUTTING POINTS ON THE BOARD AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

PROMOTION IS ISN’T A CERTANTY YET, BUT WE’RE EDGING CLOSER EVERY WEEK. BRING ON BARNSLEY AND LET’S HOPE PRESTON CAN DO US A FAVOUR AGAINST BLUES. COME ON WOLVES!!!

We were not that brilliant at the start but ran out comfortable winners.
All these other teams and people like Kilgallon, Blackwell and Jerome can say what they like but we are a young, talented, British squad of players that have had a brilliant start and will take some catching. Blues have a particularly tough run of games coming up, we do not.
We need to make 3 signings in the window and win half our games and we are up!

British “Isles” players — brummie rob wolves. Wardy, Foley and Keogh wouldn’t wish to be wrongly described as “British” I reckon.

They’re Irish and I’m sure proud of it — as they are to be Wolves players.

And it must be a certaintly that Wardy and Foley play for the Republic soon alongside Keogh. They have to be picked to paly IMO

Collins coming on was ridiculous, he was woeful and almost allowed Derby to score 3 times in 5 minutes. Why does Mick insist on playing his lovechild??

Now Hill has had a game we might finally get rid of Ward at left back.

    10. Keogh works hard, has a good touch, creates chances but is short on confidence. He had two good chances to shoot last night and passed instead – that will come back now the crowd are behind him and not on his back every time he mis-places a pass. Won’t reply to your second comment – no need to as it’s so stupid!

Whats wrong? why cant you support the team. we are not chelsea! dont expect us to have 25 world class players. better a good team with weak individuals than good individuals who form a weak team (aka the heywood years)

I was critical of McCarthay last season but hats off to him. In signing Iwelumo, Hill, Stearman, Jones and Mancienne on loan he has brought strength to the team. I was pleased to see Edwards play and would like to see him on a run. If we need one signing it is a Carsley type midfielder but who and from where?

Stephen Ward has been a revelation at left back but if he keeps Jarvis out of the team I will start to get worried.

    Ye Olde South Bank

Sylvan is not only the darling of the South Bank and a terrific finisher, but the lad’s got his head well and truly screwed on. His comments about the gaffer and team being ‘humble’ sends out the right message to everyone in football, not just our fans.

The ‘respect’ that Sylvan says is shown to our opponents is both welcome and justified because there are no easy games in this league. Whilst our club shows such due respect, contrast this with the outlandish pomposity of Birmingham City players such as Jerome. That club’s ego is so inflated that they’re just a disaster waiting to happen…hopefully starting at Preston. Even their fans are ringing local radio saying that they WILL win the title. Really? Go prove it rather than talk about it because they aint the same thing.

Let’s continue going about our business quietly and efficiently as Mick wishes. As one of the above posters said, one of the top three will inevitably come a cropper, so let’s make sure it aint us. If we win our games, there’s absolutely nothing Blouses or Reading can do about it and they know it.

    C’mon me babbies!
