Makeshift Villa left-back Luke Young admits he is keen to return to his favoured defensive berth on the right.
The £6million summer arrival from Middlesbrough has replaced the out-of-favour Nicky Shorey on the left in Villa’s last three games.
Young has vowed to give his all while manager Martin O’Neill continues to play him in the unfamiliar role, but the right-footer admits he has found it difficult adjusting and does not see his long-term future there.
The full-back said: “It’s a different thing for me to get my head around. I’m getting on with it and I’m doing a job, so if the manager wants to play me there I’ll do my best.
“But it’s not my best position and at times on the pitch it becomes difficult when you’re on the wrong side. I’ve got to try and manoeuvre my way out of trouble.
“I’m doing my best, I’m doing a job for the side and hopefully at some stage I might be able to get back on the right.”
Young does admit that versatility is nothing new to him.
He said: “When I was a young lad and there was no one fit at Tottenham, I slotted in here, there and everywhere. But I haven’t played there [left back] for a good eight or nine years.
“That’s three games there now and I feel like I’ve done okay, but it’s not really where I see my future.”
