A dalek made from old Yellow Pages directories could scoop £1,000 for pupils at a Halesowen school.
Caslon Primary School is asking everyone in the West Midlands to vote for their artwork in the final round of judging for the Big Yellow Pages Art Competition 2008.
The pupils created the sci-fi robot using the old directories collected for recycling.
The Dalek made it onto the shortlist of six entries after catching the eye of celebrity judge and Five TV presenter, Naomi Wilkinson, who said: “This instantly recognisable sculpture is doing its best to exterminate the competition.I especially like the intricate sci-fi detail throughout.
“It must have taken absolutely ages to put him together, he looks exceedingly well made and sturdy.” Vicky Wood, extended services manager at Caslon Primary School, said: “It was made over two days and children spent some of their own time building it.
“They were so pleased with the finished Dalek they invited all the other classes to look at it before it sadly had to be dismantled for recycling.”
The art competition is part of the Yellow Woods Challenge – a simple, educational and fun environmental campaign for schools.
To vote log on to www.yellow-woods.co.uk and the deadline is December 5.
