Greggs to open until 4am

greggs.jpgA sandwhich shop is opening until 4am for three days a week to sell early-morning grub to hungry revellers.

Greggs, in Market Street, Wolverhampton, used to close at 5.30pm.

But now the store is open until 4am between Thursday and Saturday in a bid to cash in on the starving clubbers that flood into the city.

Late-night trade from people leaving the city’s pubs and clubs is already big business for fast food joints in Wolverhampton.

Licensing chiefs have awarded the store permission to open until 4am from Monday to Sunday, but bosses say it is only taking up the option for the three busiest nights of the week.

People who use the store say it is a good idea. Yvonne Lowe, aged 47, of Hilton Street, Springfield, said: “As long as the people clean up after themselves I don’t see a problem.”

Of course they won’t clean up after themselves. Park Street, in Walsall, is often awash with Greggs packaging; do we really believe that drunken clubbers will carefully place their discarded packaging in a bin?

Whilst it seems a good idea at first, as Greggs sell decent food rather than clubbers having to buy from dodgy take away outlets - won’t this increase the amount of street litter that we, the taxpayer have to pay street cleaning teams to remove? Someone hasn’t thought this through very well, as more food means more litter means more cleaning, and that is a shameful waste of taxpayers money. No doubt some clubbers will argue that they pax the same council tax which gives them the right to drop litter if they are paying for it to be cleaned. WRONG!!!! Littering is an offence, but when do you hear of prosecutions from night time littering?

Eee when I wa a lad a worked for Liptons every morning lunch time and closeing time as the junior I had to clean up outside the shop, perhaps Gregs should employ a cleaner/litter picker.

Obviously Scott is one of the local litter louts then….lol

JR - you have a good idea there, although I wouldn’t like to be outside the relative safety of the store with drunken yobs trashing Wolvo as they do every weekend - bit dangerous!

If you have ever seen the sorry state of the streets after clubs have turned out, it looks like Wolvo has been nuked…. but that is the care-free no respect attitude of the youth of today. Bit like Scott eh?
