Terry: It’s all my fault Scott

germany42.jpegEngland captain John Terry has insisted Scott Carson should not be blamed after the Albion keeper suffered another international duty disaster.

The country’s match-winning skipper was eager to get Carson off the hook, after the 63rd-minute mix-up between the pair which gave Germany’s Patrick Helmes the softest of equalisers during the friendly in Berlin.

England won 2-1 in the end, courtesy of Terry’s header six minutes from time.

Carson is already trying to shake off the lingering stigma of his blunder against Croatia 12 months ago, on the night England failed to make it to the last European Championships.

The last thing the Baggies man needed was to be at the centre of another farce which saw Helmes take advantage of hesitation between the two England men on the edge of the area.

Terry, who had been attempting to hold off Helmes to allow Carson to collect the ball, was quick to take full blame for the goal.

He said: “I hold my hands up. I am to blame for their goal. There is no blame at all attached to Scott. I should have dealt with the situation better. Someone of my experience should have cleared the ball.

“But I am relieved I had the chance to make amends by going down the other end and getting the winner. I told Stewart (Downing) to hold the ball up at the far post and I managed to get in front of their centre-half and head it home.”

Whether a gesture or a genuine act of leadership, Terry’s comments will be appreciated by both Carson and Albion, where the goalkeeper has been repairing his reputation this season.

Carson had been on the receiving end of some criticism, after conceding three goals to Chelsea at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The England captain’s winner enabled manager Fabio Capello to dismiss the blunder as an irritation, rather than let it spoil a terrific night for his team.

Terry added: “It was a good performance and it would have been an injustice had we ended up drawing the game.

“The conditions with the swirling wind made it difficult to get the ball down in play in the first half but in the second period we played a lot better.”

Until he scored, Terry was one of the poorer England players. I’m quite enjoying the post-Gerrard era.

Bang on Tez, although JT had time to put the ball into row Z about 3 times over the “experts” laid the blame squarely at Carsons feet.
Even after the interview with Terry the illustrious panel refused to blame him.
Are they in the employ of the rouble king ?

They were both to blame, JT should have booted it into row z and carson should have come out quicker and shouted “man on” but just to blame carson isn’t fair.

I don’t want any of our players in the England team anyway. As soon as they are the London media start trying to unsettle them.

Nice one Frank - way to take the gloss off.

To be fair they were both responsible. Carson needs to be a bit more commanding.

I think baggie9 has been drinking, how can you say JT is a poor player? I guess your one of them who think you can do a better job. Wasnt one of JT’s best performances but he did the job as he always does. We arent looking for glowing performances, just consist form and that is what we are getting from the whole Eng Team. Well done capello and co!

    10. He was under Mc claren and had half a game last night and again made himself look very silly.

His career has nosedived, he was a young keeper with alot of potential but unfortunately he hasnt realised his potential. playing for the bottom club in the premier. we are wolves.

Terry definately to blame, he had ample time to clear the ball, when you’re one nil up why take any chances. So why blame carson.

For me both players are at fault Terry had ample time to put his size whatevers underneath the ball and put it into row Z, but once Carson made the decision to come for it he needs to deal with it.

But Hey ho we won, was’nt costly in the end.

Carson had started coming for it, so its the keepers ball to get. Terry tried to slow the forward down but it was Carsons hesitation that resulted in the goal.

They are both at fault for the germans goal but terry being the captain should of cleaned that up easily. He should of took charge and sorted the situation out but he tried to be to cocky and shield the ball back. Terry is a poor captain in my opinion. You have to remember carson is still young, he just needs more experiance at this level. Ben foster is going to be the future number one for england.

I think goal keeper should be more commanding and dictating any defender while protecting the goal posts this is what Carson failed to do. JT had all the fault not clearing the ball earlier.

Well said wbabomber. It was a friendly, they were both at fault to be fair. Terry should have cleared it and Carson shouldn’t have come racing out and had his legs that open. It’s like Iwelumo’s miss. I don’t care, as long as he keeps banging the goals in for us, I ain’t bothered how many sitters he misses for Scotland, and I bet that’s how most Albion fans feel about Carson, as long as he keeps putting in performances there, they won’t care how he plays for England.

    22. As much as I would defend anyone who plays for England. It was a shocking mistake. And I’ve got to say I thought Carson was at fault. No confidence and wasn’t in command of his area. There was no shout from Carson thats why Terry hesitated.
Got to say Murray and Ikeme are head and shoulders above. But will never get a chance until the move on.
