Fabio Capello can see no reason why Wolves’ on-loan star Michael Mancienne should not be pushing for an England place on a regular basis in the next two years.Mancienne was a surprise choice in Capello’s squad to face Germany in Berlin tonight, with Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young also included to provide an even more youthful look to the Three Lions.
With skipper John Terry and vice-captain Rio Ferdinand currently occupying the central defensive berths, there are no vacancies available for Mancienne to fill.
However, the 20-year-old has done enough already to show he can be a player of huge importance should he fulfil his potential.
And even though Mancienne is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea, during his current loan spell at Wolves and with the England under-21s, Capello feels he has justified his selection.
“I know Mancienne,” said Capello. “He is young but I have confidence in his ability. I remember when Sven-Goran Eriksson took Theo Walcott to the World Cup. It is the same kind of thing.
“You have to put younger players in sometimes. It is important.
“Yes, he could have a big impact in two years? I hope so. But why not before? He is a very interesting player.”
Capello has vowed to make changes during the second half, with Agbonlahor and Villa team-mate Young expected to be among those given a chance.
“Agbonlahor and Young are very interesting players,” said Capello.
“It is nice to get to know them a little better.
“I have seen a lot of games. I know the players in the Premier League and their characteristics. It will be interesting to see what the performance is like.”
It is the more experienced players who have most to gain from such a depleted England side.
Capello has made it clear he is willing to make changes to his plans if performances merit and for someone like Michael Carrick, who will win his first cap since the England boss replaced Steve McClaren last December, it is an invaluable opportunity.

Not going to get a run out tonight then by the sounds of it. Experience will do him good though.

Am I the only one who thinks we should take a gamble on Murray staying fit and sell Hennessey to Arsenal (or whoever wants him) for 5-6M and offer that money to Chelsea for Mancienne! I believe and correct me if I’m wrong his contract finishes in the summer of this year or is it next and I’m sure after all the attention he is getting he will be sold in Jan or called back to Chelsea! I know we shouldn’t guarantee anything but if we fail to go up first or second this year somebody needs to answer some serious questions! And we will need the likes of Mancienne in the Premier… Plus another 20M worth of talent…. I don’t want to see us go up and straight back down.

To be brutally honest, I think that the best we can hope for out of the Mancienne situation, is that we keep him at Wolves for the remainder of the season and he helps us get automatic promotion. The idea of us being able to sign him permanently went out the window as soon as his name was put on the England squad sheet by Capello. Not that I think any of us begrudge him that decision, because anyone who’s seen Mancienne play for us in the last few games would be able to see he is ready for the next step, especilly in a friendly.
I think realistically we would be better off aiming at more modest targets with a view to Premiership football, someone like Dawson who isn’t getting enough football at Spurs or someone like that. Because if Mancienne does well tonight, and continues for the rest of the season, he’ll be a target for clubs playing regularly in European competitions, rather than Prem new boys…and that is before you even consider if he could oust Carvalho from the Chelsea team, because he’s not getting any younger is he!
Up the Wolves!

Three Wolves players on the pitch for the U 21s
yesterday.
What a team. Have you noticed how many baggies come on these pages compared to last season? Yeh that’s right, not many. I wonder why?

I agree no.6, I think we have to be realistic. To have him for the remainder of the season, would stand us a better chance of landing him. If the lad is in the England set up he’s going to definately want premiership football. And lets not forget we stil have Shackell who we have not seen the best of

No 6 I understand your comments, but should we settle for (lets say) lower players! Why can’t we aim for the best as surly when we reach the premier you’d have a better chance if you could play with the squad that have being playing week in week out rather than trying to blood in new players.. So the more ‘premier ready’ players we can get before we go up the better. I personally think we need 4 new signings when we reach the premier including the likes of Mancienne. I don’t want to settle for average players as I see that route the route back to the Championship. As for No 5, I’m not forgetting IKeme, just out of the three keepers when fit and that’s the problem Murray is our best and IKeme will be a excellent second choice as is being shown… We just can’t keep all three and we’ll get the most money for Hennessey and I know if we let Murray go with the (He’ll never be fit enough in mind) he’ll never get injured again and be a world class!

2 Jonah - totally agree with your comments. Just literally come off the phone from someone in Chelsea’s marketing dept. and yes I know he’s not the manager - but he seemed to think that Mancienne would stay at Wolves until the end of this season. Our target has to be automatic promotion and to try and sign Mancienne on a permanent basis!

Media wolf Pete… That would be amazing if it’s true. Once we’re up I’m sure he’d want to sign…
as for terryPREMIERbaggie please it’s easier if we don’t reply to any of his comments, people like him tend to go away when the realise nobody is getting draw into his comments. I don’t hate any other team, and if anybody else wants to add constructive comments, be there a Baggies fan, Man Utd fan, doesn’t bother me. I’m all for it and would welcome them but people like terryPREMIERbaggie what’s the point!

To be quite honest, now the baggies have reached the Prem the questions all their supporters are asking thenselves is ‘What Now?
Where do we go from here?
A hope for a January miracle or as their revered manager said is 2 magicians are required and that 6 of his squad not good enough for that league.
They look across from their dire position to the Golden Palace. They do not have many, if any class players, they have no internationals, no Academy producing a stream of quality youth players. All they can offer is a load of drivel on our Wolves website and newspaper topics culminating with that pathetic boing boing which has no meaning and sounds like the call of the prehistoric animal.
As they look across their desolate area and see the promised land where all of their shortcomings are to be found in abundance.
They have two words ‘Boing Boing.
We have just the one and iot sums it all up…CLASS!!!

Why all the concern over the fact that we have 3 great keepers? Why is everyone trying to sell one? And why does anyone think Chelsea want to sell Mancienne when they’ve spent over a decade developing him?

15, the first concern is that one of them doesn’t even make the bench, and gets seriously unsettled. The second (related) concern is that you can only play one of them, so the rest of that valuable talent isn’t helping the club. Instead, we might use the money to buy a good outfield player who’d be on the park. If we could pull it off, I’m with Jonah (2) - swapping Hennessy for Mancienne would be good business.

18. Do you really think Hennesey is so good they’d want to do a swap or even use him as a make weight? I think he’s a decent keeper but there are plenty better.
