United are nothing to fear - Young

luke-young.jpegAston Villa have “nothing to fear” when champions Manchester United come to town this weekend, defender Luke Young has insisted.

That’s in spite of the fact Alex Ferguson’s side are unbeaten in the league against Villa since August 1995 and have won all of the sides’ last 14 meetings in all competitions.

Young said: “The manager always says we have nothing to fear – just to ‘go out there and have a go at them and let them know you’re there and and try to win the game’.”

The full-back, speaking at a Premier League Creating Chances event at The College High Specialist Arts School in Erdington, believes Villa should take the game to United.

He said: “You should never go into a game saying ‘let’s try and stop them doing this or that and try and hang on for a draw’.

“Every game we go in to we try and win, which is obviously a fantastic mindset to have. You get a lot of sides who go to the big four and maybe try to get 10 men behind the ball and frustrate. We try and have a go.”

That was summed up by last weekend’s superb win at Arsenal, where the positivity and passion displayed by Villa was a far cry from their last trip to the capital, when they were outclassed by Chelsea.

Young believes harsh lessons were learned from that 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “The two games were completely different. If you don’t start well against one of the big four you’re going to be in big, big trouble [Villa were 2-0 down by half-time at Chelsea].

“We know we didn’t give a good account of ourselves that day. We were dominated. We tried to learn from that so that the next time we played a big four side we’d be a lot better – and we were.”
