Mancienne tipped to win first cap

mancienne2.jpegWolves players have backed Michael Mancienne to be thrown straight in for his England debut against Germany in Berlin on Wednesday.

Mancienne’s shock call-up by Fabio Capello for the friendly is largely believed to be to give the 20-year-old a taste of the international set-up.

Now the players, who have watched the on-loan Chelsea defender at first hand since his arrival on loan at Molineux, believe he should be handed his chance now.

Carlos Edwards, who set up both goals in Wolves’ 2-1 win at Southampton on Saturday, led the call.

He said: “Fabio Capello should have a look at him because he’s England class. I rate him as one of the best young centre halves of his generation and I can see big things happening for him in the future.

“I can see him in a full England shirt and hopefully playing in Europe. I rate him very highly – he’s come here not just to prove a point but to get games under his belt and he’s proved he’s one for the future.”

Defensive partner Richard Stearman added Mancienne’s call-up had not surprised him.

He said: “He’s certainly worthy of it. Mike told me on Friday that he was on standby for the squad and I was delighted for him.

“I knew myself previously how good he was so it’s not that great a surprise to me. I don’t think there’s a limit to how good he can become.

“He came here looking for games and he’s proving how much of a good player he is. But it’s good for the rest of the under-21s to see if you’re playing well Mr Capello will give you a chance.

“Hopefully he gets the chance to play because it wouldn’t just be great for Mike, but for Wolves as well.”

Striker Chris Iwelumo, who is with the Scotland squad to play Argentina, thinks Mancienne will do just fine.

He said: “I think he can definitely play for England. He’s got a lot of quality and he’s going into a great squad.”

While Mancienne has won his first call-up as one of five centre-halves in a squad also featuring ex-Wolves man Joleon Lescott and Joe Hart.

Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney have pulled out due to injury, while John Terry and Steven Gerrard are doubts.

Terry said: “His form has been fantastic for Wolves. They’ve had three or four wins since he has been there and he has a bright future.”

5, we’re not managers but use a bit of what you’ve got. Champions league or championship? Yes, we’re looking good to go up, but if you had the choice where would you go? Chelsea, £80k+ a week, England duty, champions league, European clubs at your feet or battling for survival in the Prem.

I’m as passionate about wolves as the next man, but common sense spells it out pretty clearly for me, minus my Champ Man expreince

just read the the Sun news paper & theres a big piece about the lad where he says he’d love to get his chance at chelsea & the wolves are a good stepping stone for him get that chance in the prem!!!!

to me that just says he likes the set up here but doesn’t see his future here!!!!

still might as well make the most of him while he’s here!! although i don’t think… in fact i’m certain we won’t buy him i do think we can extend the loan!!!

    One for Wolf Boy….

Mick has no plan B and should be sacked for persisting with Ward at left back. He has his favourites, he loves the Irish too much, he only buys players from Sunderland and he won’t give Freddy a chance to play.

We will never have him permanently. Fact. Let’s just enjoy it whilst it lasts and hopefully he’ll stay with us for the season, and get us too the promised land. Which i’m sure, we will.

    Simon in Oklahoma!

I think a call up could actually extend his stay at Wolves.

An England call up would be the ultimate indicator that they’ve sent him to the best possible place for him to develop as a player. They may even send us some more young players as it obviously wouldn’t do them any harm.

But we all know they were never going to sell him unless we put a zero on our offer, & even then he would still be expecting Chelsea wages.

(So 3 million plus Collins should do it! Hey its a joke, calm down Collins-o-philes!)

    5. get a grip of yourself pal, you are showing yourself up!
Mancienne will be a chelsea regular 1 day, they will not sell at all, that is obvious, he may well stay at wolves all season which is becoming increasingly likely, so lets reap the benefits of that for now because getting to the prem is number 1 priority and that is the be all and end all, nothing else. I am sure even the most blinkered, negative commenter on here will agree with that!! Lets enjoy this great period of football we are in at wolves, at least it is keeping the sandwell town and doom-gloom merchants away!!!!!

….oh and forget Freddy Eastwood, has he done much at Coventry since leaving the club?

Mick showed the same strength he did with Roy Keane and for Ireland. NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB.

Without knowing the details, I suspect Freddy thinks he’s better than he is yet. I wouldn’t swap him for any of our current strikers.

MM is a very good player. Unfortunately, the team in general played CRAP on Saturday. We were extremly lucky to come away with the points. If we play as bad as that against Blackpool we will lose for sure! Too many of our players didn’t get out of bed never mind past 1st gear.

They gave their players far too much space, never closed them down and I really thought we had 10 not them..

Hopefully Mick got into them at the end of them match. Somebody needed to anyway.

The buzz is that MM will reconfirm his loan in Jan that will mean he must stay until the end of the season.
Great news for what we all hope will be a big push towards promotion.
One note of caution however whilst MM is playing, our other young players, who we will rely on next season hopefully in the Prem. Are sitting on the bench gaining no experience.
This is in no way a complaint from me just hope that the players in the queue behind him have patience.
I like most fans will watch and hope he gets his debut on Wednesday.

    Me and you baby!!

If we get Mancienne for the year and he stays injury free I think we can have no complaints and with him in the team and the ret of the current squad we ARE as good as reading – easily.

I personally feel they were the better team by a mile, no arguments, but there were many reasons. We are the best in this league with Mancienne in the squad.

If we got into the Prem and he came for another year I think we would be luckier than West Brom not to average 3 goals conceded per game this year.

But lets not act stupid and assume promotion is ours or Mancienne will stay.

Bottom line; UP THE WOLVES! COME ONNNNN!!!

    22. i was at the game, and we wasnt crap?

Id say we were decent, did enough and were good enough to beat the saints. Yes we can play better and mick and the players will know that, but “crap” we definately wasnt!.

The back four and Ikeme were solid, mancienne and stears had good games.
Jones and iwelumo both scored and played well and so did carlos edwards.
Kites, henry and ebanks-blake were average.

Lets not get too arrogant and lets give southampton some credit, they played well and gave 100% when they were reduced to ten men.

    A fair report i think?

To have a loan player having regular 1st team football while the regular centre-halfs are at the sideline due to injury or others does not speak well for the team. It’s all well now.

But when the loan period ends, what then? At a critical period of the league championship, is not the time to find the right combination.

If the loan players do sign permanent deal or extend their loan till end of the season, it’s fine.

But a permanent solution is needed here to resolve any deficiency. Consistency must be maintained for march to the Premiership.
