Colchester 0 Walsall 2 - verdict

wd3137387colchester-utd-v.jpgWalsall executed the classic smash and grab raid thanks to goals from Dwayne Mattis and Michael Ricketts.

The Saddlers saw far less of the ball but were clinical in front of goal to put a disappointing Colchester side to the sword.

Mattis netted the first with a low finish after 16 minutes after good work from Troy Deeney and Ricketts sealed the game with a far post header on the hour.

The win was only the Saddlers second in the last nine games and gave manager Jimmy Mullen much needed breathing space, after coming under fire in recent weeks.

Colchester failed to capitalise on their possession although they came close through Mark Yeates and Anthony Wordsworth, but the Saddlers held firm to claim a priceless away win.

They rode their luck at times but fully deserved to take the three points away from Essex.

Well I just bought 2 tickets on the phone for Saturday against the MK Dons. I had stayed away but got to give them another chance. Football isn’t about head it’s about the heart. WFC made my heart ache many times but got to give them another chance.
