Mancienne could stay for season

mancienne1.jpegWolves boss Mick McCarthy may try to persuade Chelsea to part with Michael Mancienne for the rest of the season.

The boss has also declared the on-loan star is already on the teamsheet for the clash with Burnley.

Mancienne produced a man of the match performance on his Wolves debut in last week’s win against Cardiff, after McCarthy’s faith in axeing both centre-halves was justified with a third successive victory.

The manager said: “I haven’t got a dilemma at the back, but I’ve got competition. Michael Mancienne was outstanding – to come in to team who are top of the league and in a position of strength.

“To be put in a side and play as well as we did, he did great and I’m delighted to have him.”

The England under-21 international has two-and-a-half years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. He has been courted by numerous clubs for loan, after a move to Bristol City failed because of injuries at Chelsea just before his switch to Molineux.

McCarthy remained coy on Mancienne’s permanent prospects but will look at taking him for the season.

The boss said: “I’ve taken him on loan until Christmas, but there’s two questions: Why would they sell and will he play for Chelsea?

“From January, I can take him for the rest of the season and I’d look at it then. I’m just very fortunate in that we’ve been able to take him.

“Let’s have him until Christmas and we’ll see. I have an agreement with Frank Arnesen and I don’t see a need to change that.”

McCarthy feels Mancienne is in the ideal place to learn his trade.

He said: “Michael has come to continue his development and if he was to come to any club outside the Premier League, he’s in the right place.

“He’ll get as much pressure on him to play well, to have as a high a profile as any club outside the Premier League.

“Michael will be tested both physically and mentally and he’ll be challenged. It’s not quite like playing for Chelsea in the Premier League or Champions League, but in terms of his next step, he’s getting his education.”

Jason Shackell, one of the two centre-halves who made way for Mancienne and Richard Stearman, is fit after a groin injury kept him out of the Cardiff game.

Obviously Chelsea will put a Call back clause in Therefore if no Chance of permanent Signing then we need a decent cover or 1st choice for next season, maybe Berra at right price,Craddock at 33 will need cover Collins Squad player only, leaves only Stearman/Shackell recognised CB’S,

So TERRYILLNEVERSPELLORWORKAGAIN is that why Sandwell didn’t sign him, obviously Sandwell are doing so well they don’t need any more defenders.

Keogh would walk straight into Chelsea’s squad. Send Drog to the bench.

Seriously though, season long loan would be brilliant.

I don’t want to jinx anything but I really think Wolves are going to go up this season! The key to whether Wolves actually stay up might well be what happens in this January transfer window and whether we can fork out for Mancienne! Should Chelski do well and find other good defenders then they might be persuaded to sell. But we’re talking 10 Million plus a hefty contract that will blow the salary budget, and which would mean the rest of the players will be looking for similar terms
