What makes the West Midlands unique? Could you capture your idea of this in a photograph?
Get your cameras at the ready for the chance to win a Pentax digital SLR camera! The Express & Star is teaming up with Specsavers stores in Bearwood, Bilston, Dudley, Kidderminster, Rugeley, Stourbridge, Stourport, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton to launch this great photographic competition.
The brief is simple but designed to stretch entrants’ creativity. The challenge is to capture the essence of what makes the West Midlands a unique and personal place - whether it’s the breathtaking scenery, historical landmarks or a friendly neighbour - it is as simple as that. And there are certainly plenty of characters, buildings and natural places of beauty throughout the Black Country and Staffordshire.
Amateurs can enter their photographs into one of three different age groups - 16 and under, 17 - 59 and over 60s. The winner from each age group will receive a K200D Pentax digital SLR camera and the three runners-up each get a Pentax Optio S12 camera.
Neil Boden, store director of Specsavers in Wolverhampton, says “This competition is a fantastic opportunity for photographers to showcase their talent. The photos should show how people see the West Midlands and what it means to them. We are certainly expecting to see many images conveying the different landscapes of countryside and cities”.
The closing date for entries is December 1, 2008 after which a panel of judges including representatives from the Express & Star and Specsavers store directors will select the West Midlands’ Specsavers Photographers of the Year. There is a maximum number of two entries per person.
In January of next year there will be an exhibition of entries including the winning photographs. A range of pictures will be displayed, not only those of the winners, and the exhibition will be open to the public. At a presentation ceremony, the winners will be presented with their prizes and the photos sold to raise money for Diabetes UK.
