Villa blogger Dave Bytheway laments the inaccuracies of a national newspaper and revels in fourth place after the win against Blackburn.

I’m not normally one to comment on newspaper articles, but I feel I have to defend my club strongly in this instance.

In a national Sunday newspaper this week, a double page spread was published telling the nation in no uncertain circumstances that we showed no respect by refusing to collect for the rememberance poppy appeal.

Millions of people read this article, so I really hope their opinions haven’t been swayed. The facts are Villa are collecting for the appeal AND our official charity ACORNS at the Middlesboro game on November 9.

We are selling poppys around the ground as normal. For it to take a club statement, and postings from board members on websites to clarify the club’s stance is out of order, so I hope this can be published also.

Rant over - and back to football. After defeating Dutch giants Ajax on Thursday, with a superb performance from every player, we are sitting top of our group.

Manager Martin O’Neill has stated we would need seven points to progress, but I feel that 5 will do, meaning our next game in Prague could seal it for us.

We went to Wigan with only two days break after Thursdays night game, so many could have been planning the tired excuses.

In the end they were put to the back of the mind again, as we absolutely hammered Bruce’s Wigan 4-0 at the JJB Stadium. It was good to see our famous lap dance conneseiur get on the scoresheet again.

With him and Gabby linking well as normal, we quickly took the game to Wigan. With Sidwell adding a fourth for his first Villa goal, they day couldn’t get any better.

Then came Blackburn, who gave us a sterner test, but we ran out 3-2 winners in the end. Rovers under Mark Hughes they were organised, hard to break down and would punish any defensive weaknesses.

Under Ince they seem a little unpredictable, regularly blowing hot and cold. Thats is of no problem to Villa, as we now sit proudly fourth in the table. Things are getting better and better!

Monday is another strange one, which sees us travel to Newcastle. After beating the Baggies I didn’t think the Magpies looked too strong and their are many weaknesses in their team.

Areas which the likes of Ashley Young and Gabby will love to push them. I think we will win, so a draw and no injuries ahead of Prague next Thursday will be good also.

This will be a good upcoming week of football, so enjoy every moment.

Up the Villa!

It’s good to celebrate results. Although Villa must have the best sports science back up ( fitness, recovery, low level of injuries etc.) the way we play gives me concern O.k we have ball winners but rewinning the ball is knackering, we need to be able to keep the ball for parts of the game, which we didn’t against Blackburn. Top four teams can usually play more than one way.

Here’s a question for you. If I was thinking of dropping Rooney in fantasy football, who’s the better bet Carew or Abonglahor? :p

Great win when you consider we’ve played 3 games in 10 days, one of which would have been a real drainer against Ajax.

Im not too concerned about the way we played against Blackburn, the result is what was important.

Finland Wolf, get Gabby in. Although Carew is the most important for us, Agbonlahor will aloways score goals.

I am a big villa fan but must give credit to our neighbours across the city- birmingham city. They have started off the season in remarkable form and will no doubt prove tough opponents for us when they are promoted this season. A lot of fellow villa fans will disagree but I feel so strongly about this I had to write it. S
