Motoring misery as major work shuts roads

Motorists face traffic misery when a £60,000 roadworks scheme gets under way in Brownhills. The work involves resurfacing and sewer repairs.

Commuter route Hednesford Road and several side roads leading to the Brownhills West estate will be closed from tomorrow.

The council project is being carried out by Tarmac National Contracting Ltd and Severn Trent Water.

Hednesford Road, off A5 Watling Street, which links Brownhills to Norton Canes, will be shut from 9.30am-4pm daily until Sunday November 2.

Walsall Council said that the road and side-roads would be closed from the junction of Albutts Road to south of Wilkin Road. Access to Brownhills West estate will be from Wilkin Road only while access to Poole Crescent will be via the A5.

A diversion will be in place via Red Lion Lane, Betty’s Lane, B4154 Walsall Road, and A5 Watling Street, and vice versa.

Cabinet member for transport Councillor Anthony Harris said the work was being done in the school half-term break to minimise disruption.

In addition Wilkin Road will be closed for sewer repairs from Monday for approximately five days near the junction with Shannon Drive.
