Murray’s comeback setback

wig-res.jpegGoalkeeper Matt Murray’s latest comeback game for Wolves has ended in frustration after just 45 minutes.

The giant stopper, playing in a friendly against Wigan at Compton, limped off at half-time with a dead-leg.

Murray was injured in an innocuous looking challenge, as he came to collect a low cross towards the edge the penalty area.

The luckless Wolves shot-stopper should hopefully be back in action soon, as he was able to continue for the rest of the half before being substituted at half-time to be replaced by youngster Richard Woolley.

Wolves also handed match practice to former Sunderland midfielder Jeff Whitley, who was one of five half time changes. Whitley is at the club to get fit following his release from the Stadium of Light.

The home side lost 1-0 to a deflected Joe Holt corner in the 24th minute following a defensive mix-up.

Mick McCarthy’s men went close on a number of occasions as George Friend, Jason Shackell, Mark Davies, Darren Potter and Michael Gray also gained valuable match practice.

Academy Sam Winnall twice went close in the first half for Wolves, while Ashley Hemmings saw an effort smothered by Wigan keeper Neil Postlethwaite.

#1, So we’re sitting second in the table, and we should kick out our manager because he gives a game (not a contract - just a game) to an ex-Sunderland player you’ve presumably never seen play ?
Is there anything Mick can do that wouldn’t result in you demanding his head ? And are there any managers at all in the Championship who deserve to keep their jobs given that 22 of them are below us ?
A more sensible comment would be some sympathy for Matt. Top bloke, top keeper but horrible luck. At least the injury doesn’t sound too bad.

Lay off Matt Murry he is a great keeper, remember Chris Kirkland, he was injury prone in his early days as well. Give the guy a break. Also to number 1 Mick out !!!! were 2nd best start for 40 years you fool !!!

    9. Gibbonry - You are spot on, its a dead leg, nothings broken nothings damaged. Matt will be back sooner rather than later. In the menatime Hennessey will be on the bench for at least a month with Ikeme taking the reigns at No1. Then I think Matt will be back with avengeance. Hennessey will be No2 and Ikeme loaned out to another Championship club but will not be allowed to play against us

#1 , my god why do you and your sort come on here? you try and make everyone here as bitter and twisted as you and your perennially negative mates.
#12, spot on , agree with every word.
It IS only a dead leg, ive had them playing football, and while they feel like youve had a kick from a racehorse at the time, given 48 hours youre as right as rain again, so leave off with the “injury prone” and “flog him” comments and give the lad encouragement, after all he is a wolves player, but there again, a small minority on here are only happy when slating a wolves player, the manager, coaches, scouts, kit man, tea lady or any one who happens to be walking past molineux at the time!!

I received a dead leg at work yesterday…..and guess what…..I’m fine today, just a little bruising!!! I would quite happily dive around on the ground for £10k a week!!

    ITS A DEAD LEG…….E & S are getting desperate!!

  23. weaverwolf said:

It is now time to get him off the pay roll He is a liability. We need fit keepers we need to move forward no time for sentiment . sorry matt time to go.

  24. we8albion said:

Hennessey is still no.1 no doubt about it! He is the best of the 3 when you consider how injury prone Murray is. Hennessey should come back in on Saturday. Ikeme didn’t do anything wrong at Swansea its just that Hennessey is a better goal keeper. He’s played a lot of consecutive games and has barely made a mistake. And if we had to sell 1 of the 3 it definately wouldn’t be Hennessey! Hennessey is no.1 !
